The Early Days and the Book of Polatilus: 100-600 CE

Most history from the period described in the Book of Polatilus is regarded as apocryphal, especially since some of the characters depicted in the sacred text are said to have lived for over four-hundred years. With that said, the Book of Polatilus still provides a valuable insight into the period, offering a recounting of numerous historical events that are supported with archaeological records and the claims of other, more reliable sources.

Prior to being unified in the 700s, modern-day Gragastavia was a composed of numerous city-states vying for supremacy, both commercially and militarily. The squabbles between the leaders of two of these city-states, Durak and Tethok, formed the basis of the story of the Book of Polatilus and set the stage for the unification of Gragastavia under Amirmoez I.

While riding through Gragastavia with his armies, Amirmoez, later King Amirmoez I, accumulated some considerable public support from those that neither he nor his armies killed. Do not misconstrue that statement, however, for being that everyone alive in Gragastavia at the time supported Amirmoez. In fact, many did not, especially the local warlords, who opposed Amirmoez's conquest, and fought against him to the last man, whenever he happened to come by their villages for more land. During his campaign, Amirmoez came to be known as a fair and just ruler, providing numerous accurate estimates of length to the carpenters he assisted in their constructions, as well as an effective administrator of a land empire. With sword in hand, his empire grew from Al Duhaba and spread out across what is modern-day Gragastavia and into several surrounding nations.

At Amirmoez's coronation as King of Gragastavia, at the height of his empire, announced his plan to attack the tribes in modern-day Falkasia and incorporated them into his realm. Sending out a call for soldiers, he rallied a new army that began to march into the scrublands, meeting combined XYZ forces at a ridge about thirty kilometers outside of Stana, Falkasia. There, his armies clashed with the XYZ, the valiant fight lasting for about two weeks, with neither side gaining the upper hand. On June 19th, 744, Amirmoez was killed in a major encounter of the two armies. Rumors suggest that
