Infantry Squads and Tactics in the Imperial Army
Infantry Squads and Tactics in the Imperial ArmyImperial infantry tactics and doctrines have changed dramatically in the post-Rebellion era Imperial Military. Despite its immense manpower, the Imperial Military had already abandoned traditional Imperial Army tactics such as the "Human Tsunami" strategy.
Squad
Squad formation
Following Imperial Army tradition, the North Aterian infantry squad consists of twelve men. The composition of a Standard Imperial Army Squad Formation is:
- Six Troopers
A Radio Tech
A Sharpshooter
Two men manning a Machine Gun
Two men armed with a Bazooka
Unlike most standard Imperial Army infantry formations, the Black Ops Squad Formation consists of sixteen men and the usual composition of a Black Ops squad is:
Four Marksmen
Four Ninjas
Four Guerrillas
Black Operations Squads are generally feared for their brutality.
Squad tactics
Offensive tactics
North Aterian squads at present apply small unit tactics in order to avoid high numbers of casualties in combat, abandoning the classic Imperial Army doctrine of strength in overwhelming numbers.
Defensive tactics
When fighting on the defensive, North Aterian infantry depend heavily on the weapons they have such as tanks, aircraft, anti-tank weapons and improvised explosives. Naturally, when outnumbered and without tanks and support vehicles in sight, North Aterian soldiers resort to ambush tactics. In urban warfare, North Aterian squads have an unnatural aptitude for fighting in close quarters combat. When facing against enemy vehicles (for example, a tank), North Aterian infantry squads can do two things: focus their anti-tank firepower directly on the enemy’s vehicles to disable them or outright destroy them in a fiery blaze.
In one of the Imperial Army field manuals, "How to Craft a Sticky Bomb", North Aterian soldiers take a standard issued sock, pack enough Composition B into the sock, wire a simple fuse and soak the whole sock in axle grease and thus a sticky bomb is made. Sticky bombs are used against enemy vehicles and tanks.
