Current Political Scene in PotatoFarmers (WIP)

The political scene of PotatoFarmers is considered relatively clean and neat as compared to many large nations. PotatoFarmers is home to 7 national parties, all of which represent different parts of the political spectrum.

Main National Parties
1. Kibi Party (#22ee55)
Founded in 2002, this is the ruling party of PotatoFarmers. Having been in government since 2052 (first 2 terms was a coalition, then it became a majority and then a super majority than sliding between a majority and a super majority), this is one of the longest ruling parties in the world amongst democracies. It is currently led by the incumbent President Pikashru Nakisan. The party's official political position is center-left, supporting more conservative ideas, as well as many welfare initiatives implemented over the past decades.

2. Congress Party (#000080 and #7f7f7f)
Founded in 1999, this is the oldest party in PotatoFarmers. Despite its falling membership, the party remains one of the more popular parties in PotatoFarmers. The party has often drifted in and out of Government, and would often remain as the main Opposition Party if not in the Government. The party is officially a center-right party, choosing to support lots of more liberal policies. It is led by the current Leader of the Opposition, Mr Bansk Derakashi since 2100.

3. Bijara Party (#ff908a)
Founded in 2001, this was one of the parties that formed the first democratically-elected Government together with Congress Party and Kibi Party. The party is often seen as a centrist party, choosing to support policies from both the liberal right and the conservative left. Its lack of distinct identity, however, has always been an issue that causes it to not see huge support, especially in rural areas.

4. Socialist Party (#ae291e)
Founded in 2002, the party belongs to the far left of the political spectrum. The party is a firm believer of equality for all, a strong supporter of meritocracy, and represents the group of hardline leftists who believe the government is not doing enough in terms of welfare policies. It has been the only party to be part of the Ridimag since the Constitutional reform of 2008.

5. Farmers League Party (#b56e00)
Founded in 2052, the party aims to represent the rights of the farmers and the groups of people working in the agricultural industry. As the economy develops and PotatoFarmers start to develop more technology, the Party often campaigns on doing more for this group of workers, and ensure that they would remain an important part of the economy.

6. Democracy Front (#ffef7f)
Founded in 2072, the party is a firm believer of giving people more political rights. It is especially popular with the young educated middle class, who believes that the people are not given enough political freedom. The Party's biggest success was the repeal of the "State Media Act" in May 2089, which prohibits the formation of private media companies and bans all foreign newspapers from being read in PotatoFarmers.

7. Makara Party (#56f9cc)
Reformed in 2087, the party was formed by a merger of Sinipotra Party (formed in 2032) and Dekarite Party (formed in 2013). The party has since reorganised itself to be the "Big-Tent" party, which adopts policies which are more popular amongst the urban population.

Parliamentary System
Poafmersia employs a unitary parlimentary system, with a single house, the Ridimag, in the national parliament, as well as state parliaments in each of the 10 states. The seats are divided by a proportional representation system. At the polls (once every 6 years), the citizens will cast 1 vote in favour of a particular party. The vote will then be counted towards the state total and the national total. In the 510-seat Ridimag, 480 seats are decided by national counts; 30 seats are decided by state-level counts. The d'Hondt formula is used here. For the 75-seat state legislature, the Hare formula is used instead.

The next election is in 2112.
