THE WAR OF 11, A BRIEF HISTORY

---Prelude---
The prelude to the bloody War of 11 in 1976 could be seen as far as back as the 19th century, when Nonnen, just the Western Districts then, began rapidly industrializing due to the influence of those from the East Peninsula, which would eventually become the Eastern Districts in 1923. Some Nonnes were none too pleased with this as they believed that a conservative society ruled by a monarchy would be the best way to hold onto their history and their culture. But at the same time, this very regime had brought them so much suffering and famine, as the dynasty hoarded the goods for themselves and redistributed it back to the people in the way that they saw fit. At the time, the area was under a Count, as it wasn't very big, and this man's name was Kaunteu XIII. This man, or more like a child, was only 17 years old and was assigned as count as the other heirs had been murdered in the Bonbu Bay Incident a year earlier, which had seen easterners slaughter dozens of native Nonnes. It seems that 13 was, in fact, an unlucky number as one incompetent child could bring a 400-year-old regime to its knees with one wrong move. This move was declaring war on the easterners, which, ironically, had much more western influence than the Nonnes and were much more technologically advanced. This war was called the Myeolhada, as it saw Nonnen under siege and in a civil war by two different groups; on one hand in the east in the Bonbu Bay called the "Whites" as that was the color of the Kaunteu Dynasty, that supported them and their cause. And opposing them were the "Blues", the color of the blue symbol that the Easterners had as their banner, who believed in a modernized government with capitalism and democracy, or something close to it. The Blues ended up winning, of course, and they united the two governments in the 1920s.
---Opening---
So, skipping past around half a century of unimportant history, in 1968, the Easterners, now called the Gwonli, were still drastically genetically different than the Nonnen, with fairer skin and a higher stature, compared to the short nature of the Nonnes, the Gwonli certainly seemed the superior group. So with this came the period of segregation and conflict that led to the War of 11 called the Bunhal, which showed the brutality that both races could show each other in times of conflict. At the time, Gwonli crime rates were rising in the still pretty culturally separated Western Districts, and the Nonne, in true Nonnen fashion, had none of it, and split entire towns in half based on genetics. By 1973, the tension had reached a point of no return, the war was inevitable. At this time the border that sat on top of the Bonbu Bay had been turned into a DMZ and ports and trade routes from the Gwonli on the Bay were completely sealed off. Then, one fateful day in Autumn of 1976, a Gwonli civilian ship was attacked by paranoid Nonne forces, and immediately a Gwonli majority section of District 11 declared independence. The long-awaited War had arrived.
---Deja Vu---
Many made historical connections to the mystical Myeolhada of legends as the once imperial council building was once again, over 200 years later, under siege by Gwonli forces. This enraged nationalist Nonnes, as they took up arms and brutally massacred Gwonli peoples in the streets, fighting or not. But by 1977, everyone was. You were either a Gwonli or a Nonne, simple as that, no in-between, no end in sight. District 11 was a major frontline and saw hundreds die on its once fertile lands now soaked by blood and lead. The War wasn't so black and white, however, as there was Gwonli infighting and also several factions of Nonne fighting each other over ideological differences as well. The War continued on for 5 years, getting almost nowhere except, until 1981, once a famine struck both sides and neither could continue. This was when the authoritarian Western Nonnen government collapsed and the Muneojim rose to power, a strong man faction of Nonnen but not nearly as strict as the previous government, who made official peace with the Gwonli in 1982, forming the Federation, and ending the 600 years of constant wars that had plagued the area just decades before...
