Old Town is the major hub of Colonial Town. Colonial Town was founded as a result of the incessant decline in the historical colonial architecture that once littered the streets of the major parts of the city of Lagos. It traces its roots back to Portuguese, French, Italian and British Colonial influences in its architecture. Old Town comprises of residential, commercial, administrative and leisure districts. Majority of the Brazilian-style buildings are lined up in the residential area, compromising an influence of the Portuguese architecture, while the French and Italian style buildings can be seen in the commercial district. The British buildings can be seen in the administrative and commercial district due to our former connection with the British Crown.
