Commentary

Coming undone, then... what a feeling!

In the figurative sense, coming undone means that something has either not gone as planned, or has failed in some way. By 1993 I was barely 10 years old, but Duran Duran is a group with a long trajectory and by the time I was about 15 or 16, it was still something you could catch on the Radio. You need to remember: as an 80's kid, there wasn't such a thing as "Buy it in iTunes" or "Download it from XYZ". The only access to music we had, other than radio or buying the full albums, was Napster... and we all know how that went down.

Anyway, my life by the age I discovered Duran Duran was a little chaotic, and it felt like it if was really coming apart. My teen idiosyncrasy made it hard to find someone with whom to share what was frustrating me and I felt totally identified with one of the song phrases:

Can't ever keep from falling apart at the seams
Can't I believe you're taking my heart to pieces

So I turn to music to explain - and understand - how I felt and this was one of the first songs I stumbled upon, a classic by itself by then, and it was an immediate click. I have since considered Duran Duran - together with Depeche Mode and a Latin American ban called Moenia - one of my favorite "light" bands.

I'm happy to say that in 2008, I finally had the chance to be at a Duran Duran concert with my wife and, happily, Come Undone was played. I wish I have the time to enjoy another live show with the band, before it gets too late, heh

Mine, immaculate dream made breath and skin
I've been waiting for you.
Signed with a home tattoo,
Happy Birthday to You was created for you

Can't ever keep from falling apart at the seams
Can't I believe you're taking my heart to pieces

Oh, it'll take a little time,
Might take a little crime
To come undone now

We'll try to stay blind
To the hope and fear outside
Hey, child, stay wilder than the wind
And blow me in to cry

Who do you need, who do you love
When you come undone?
Who do you need, who do you love
When you come undone?

Words, playing me deja vu
Like a radio tune I swear I've heard before
Chill, is it something real
Or the magic I'm feeding off your fingers?

Can't ever keep from falling apart at the seams
Can I believe you're taking my heart to pieces?

Lost in a snow filled sky,
We'll make it alright
To come undone now

We'll try to stay blind
To the hope and fear outside.
Hey, child, stay wilder than the wind
And blow me in to cry...

Who do you need, who do you love
When you come undone?
Who do you need, who do you love
When you come undone?

(Can't ever keep from falling apart)
Who do you need, who do you love
When you come undone?
(Can't ever keep from falling apart)
Who do you need, who do you love?

(Can't ever keep from falling apart)
Who do you love
When you come undone?
(Can't ever keep from falling apart)
