The Thousand-Year Reich

Greater Terrestrial Reich of the German Nation (German Großirdisches Reich des deutschen Volkes n., the Reich for short) - Having lasted for almost a full millennium, the Reich - a shadow of its former self - has been crumbling under its own weight for the last two centuries. Invaded by unknown aliens from all sides and ravaged by constant rebellions and serious resource shortages, the regime that once could have ruled the entire Milky Way Galaxy has been reduced to a mere seven Star Zones, with each planet still under its nominal rule exercising near-complete autonomy from one another.
　
　
Concepts

AH m.
- Stands for "Adolf Hitler"; in this case, the name for the calendar era that starts counting from 1933 CE (as 1 AH).

Arischer Mann m. and Versklavtes Wesen n.
English: "Aryan Man" and "Enslaved Being"
- "Two different species of two distinct genera", according to the Reich's official taxonomical nomenclature - which breaks from the Latin-based tradition. The Arischer M. is the citizen of the Reich, engineered by eugenics into the "perfect being", while the Versklavtes W. is inferior and subservient, there to serve as menial, or manual, labor. Both are descended from the H. sapiens of modern biology.

Buchdeutsch n. and Volksdeutsch n.
English: Classical German and Vulgar German
- "Classical German" or Buchdeutsch, also the Führer's German, is the standardized register of New High German that was - as depicted in official documents - authorized by Adolf Hitler, with the goal of purifying the German language and deriving new vocabulary on the basis of an "Icelandic dialect" of German(ic). It is the German of the State. However, the current populace speaks a diverse number of dialects derived from this standard language, and with the quality of and access to education diminishing across the Reich, they have begun to have a hard time understanding the "language of Earth". The derivative dialects of these populations are thus termed "Vulgar German", or Volksdeutsch, to distinguish it from the "proper" German used by the State in Berlin, Earth.

"Keine Frau" f.
English: "No Woman"
- Unspoken policy by the Reich, according to which, in polite terms, "women stay in the kitchen". Institutionalized to the point of obsession even for some loyalists, it is epitomized by the elimination and suppression of the feminine grammatical gender of nouns with regards to organization names, in such systematic ways so as to cause all of their names used in formal documents to be either masculine or neuter (with preference for the former in yet more specific circumstances).

Netzwerk n.
English: Network
- The Reich's Internet, once connecting households lightyears apart, has been limited by warfare and martial law to planetary, sometimes even continental, scales.

Sterngebiet n.
English: Star Zone
- Most consisting of several star systems, the Sterngebiete are administrative subdivisions of the Reich on an interstellar scale. As of 995 AH (2927 CE), down from most of habitable space in the galaxy, the Reich maintains nominal control over a mere seven of these - as an intact whole or otherwise: Sonne, Anskiel, Ansleier, Anszie, Hundsstern, Nächste and Walhalle.
　
　
Important Figures

ADOLF HITLER m.
- Tall, blond-haired, blue-eyed and the archetype of ideal manliness, the Hitler of the Reich's propaganda machine is the regime's Eternal Führer (German Ewiger Führer m.), who appears once every year to give the population the same "live broadcast" speech, on the eve of the Reich's National Day (its establishment anniversary).
　
　
Institutions

Der Staat m.
English: The State
- The ominous institution presiding over the Reich (or what of the Reich that it can still, in fact, enforce its rule over). Represents the authority of the Führer. In some circumstances, interchangeable with "Das Reich" - the Reich. Its inefficient power only permits it to exert influence over the Solar System, and little more.

Gestasi m. (short for Geheimer Staatssicherheitsdienst m.)
English: Secret State Security Service
- Official secret police of the Reich, it - continuing the old structure of the Reich since the 20th century - is administered by the RSHA. The creation of a post-restructuring merger between the Gestapo and the SD. Engaged in frequent power struggles against the Kriegsarme.

Kriegsarme m. pl.
English: War Arms
- The current armed forces of the Reich, the Kriegsarme (singular Kriegsarm) were established as part of a wider military reform several centuries before the current epoch, which aimed to restructure and integrate an increasingly outdated, rebellious and systematically State-neglected Wehrmacht into the Waffen-SS. Its pledge of loyalty is to the State. Possesses sweeping powers due to its ability to engage in policing. Finds itself in frequent power struggles against the Gestasi. Formerly divided into the Landarm, Seearm, Luftarm and Weltraumarm (land, sea, air and space "arm", respectively), but as focus shifted away from Earth, this subdivision was rendered obsolete and abolished early into the structural reform.

Orden der Schutzstaffel m.
English: Order of the SS
- Quasi-religious organization and style mimicry for the Teutonic Order of old, it is the most direct descendant of the Schutzstaffel, and shares a link with the Kriegsarme due to their common roots. Somewhat of an unofficial State church siring over a neo-paganistic Germanic tradition, the institution received a certain level of favor(itism) from the State, during the early days after the official transformation of the Waffen-SS into the Kriegsarme. Its influence has since waned, and with the attempts of the State to break its humongous concentration of power, as well as the subsequent advent of war on all sides of the Galaxy, it edges closer to extinction by the day. Mostly standing as a research and development organization, due to its scientific wing.
　
　
Antagonistic Forces

Empire of Ork
Official term: Gründinger n. - "Greenthings"
- "Ragtag horde of brainless monsters" is the consensus reached by Kriegsarme personnel regarding the fledgling alien empire. Nevertheless, under the rule of its enigmatic "Emperor of Ork", the alien horde has managed to ravage Reich frontier zones since its inception.

Imperium Omnigenerum Sacrum
Official term: der Großfeind m. - "the Great Enemy"
- "An alien enemy armed with outlandish technologies", this adversary has been particularly devastating towards the existence of the Reich, and has been more or less directly responsible for its downfall - through conquests, sabotages and encouragement of rebellion in Reich-controlled territories. More dangerous than the Orks, as agents planted by this entity into the Reich can blend into local populations with ease due to their humanoid forms.
