Following the devastation of the Reaper War, the various “independent” Asari Republics saw a need to become more centralized in an effort to better improve response times to crisis situations. This resulted in the formation of an United Asari Republic which turned the direct democracy previously in place into a representative democracy. This democracy is separated into three branches. The executive headed by the Chancellor, who’s term is ten years, is in charge of foreign affairs as well as enforcing legislation. The Legislative branch which is led by a unicameral body known as the General Assembly which was made up of Assemblers from each planet who’s number is determined based on the population of that planet. The final branch is the Judicial Branch which is headed by the Supreme Court which picks its own members to serve life terms.
