PRESIDENT PLEDGES TO PUT JOBS FIRST
The President has announced a new initiative to make improving employment and tax conditions for citizens at "the core" of this policymaking.
In the announcement, which was recorded in the Presidential Palace and broadcasted on major television channels last night, the president admitted that the extremely high levels of unemployment New Lizhou faces is "an embarrassment to our country", and something "we must deal with at once."
Currently, New Lizhou is ranked the top 92% of countries in employment by the World Census, and the base tax rate is 80%. AMNESTY International's ambassador in New Lizhou believes that "the only reason we haven't seen a riot on the scale of what's been happening in Hong Kong or the US is because of the coronavirus."
However, some are sceptical of the address.
"There is no concrete plan of action here," John Wong, Conservative Party MP for Sin Hing, says. "And until there is, this announcement means nothing and should be ignored."
But others disagree.
"If he says he's gonna do more stuff for us working people, and he's stayed true to his word before, why shouldn't I trust him?" a passer-by on the streets of Dankeng says.
"He's made a lot of decisions that seem stupid from a financial perspective, sure." An office lady from Datujaya argues. "But I mean, he also stays true to his word, so why wouldn't he on this one?"
The announcement comes at a time when although other economies in countries which have failed to effectively contain their outbreaks of coronavirus are crashing, the New Lizhouan economy has not seen such a fate, as shops and businesses have mostly remained open the last 6 months. Still, many people are out of work, so any relief will surely be welcomed.

No new coronavirus cases for 3rd day in a row, MinHealth hold press conference
New Lizhou reported no new cases of the coronavirus for a third day in a row, with the cumulative case count at 476 and the number of active cases at 123.
The last case, which involved a 74 year-old man living at a public housing estate in Sheung Wai, interrupted a previous 13-day streak of no new cases.
The Ministry of Health also held a press conference yesterday, to announce the loosening of more social distancing restrictions.
Authorities say schools will be allowed to open in phases if a 20-day streak of no new cases is achieved. This means that the current streak must be maintained for 17 more days. Coincidentally, the end of that period will be September 1, the starting date for most schools across the country.
From monday, civil servants and others working for the government who have been ordered to stay at home will also be allowed to return to work from next week.
In addition, restaurants, beauty parlours and karaoke lounges will be allowed to operate at full capacity.
