Office of the Chief Judiciary
.
The Office of the Chief Judiciary is a wholly independent branch of the NWU government, responsible for all criminal, civil, and state cases within the region. By maintaining the highest standards of objectivity, fairness, and ethics, the Chief Judiciary is the only official avenue of justice within the region. It is presided over by the Chief Justice, who is further assisted by the Associate Justice. The primary goal of the Chief Judiciary is to find a fair resolution to disputes as prescribed by law, whilst providing the utmost transparency and accessibility of records and procedures.
The Chief Judiciary is committed to using factual and civil discourse to resolve its disputes, with all individuals that find themselves appearing before the Chief Judiciary able to expect respectful, reasonable, and fair treatment. Additionally, the Chief Justice will harbor no bias, and will promote their Associate in the event that they do.
_________________________ SUBMITTING A CASE _________________________
The law allows anyone to file charges for any type of offense, including criminal offenses. However, only the Chief Judiciary can prosecute said offenses.
To avoid cases where the Chief Judiciary would be obligated to drop charges a resident has privately filed, it is recommended to choose one of the Regional Attorneys (listed below) to assist. This isn't compulsory, and a resident can choose to represent themselves in the case, however it is highly recommended.
If you happen to hold evidence of a possible crime, please submit a filing via the appropriate google form and contact the Chief Justice either by telegram or Discord. Submissions by any of those two platforms will be treated equally. Do note that the Nationstates Terms and Conditions do not allow the direct sharing of content breaching Term and Conditions through Nationstates Telegrams.
If you wish to submit a motion for a case, please submit the relevant filing via the google forms provided in the Help tab.
_________________________ REGIONAL ATTORNEYS _________________________
Regional Attorneys are residents of the region with a "license to practice NWU Law" that are approved to practice by the Chief Judiciary. These individuals exist to counsel defendants and plaintiffs alike and can represent either in the court should it be requested.
