Threat of Sanctions
The threat from Mydia that sanctions would be leveled if the Union were to keep its course was a viable threat though one the Empire could ill afford to follow through with. The sentiment had been echoed by a slew of nations, including those close to Albany geographically but non-aligned, the lifeblood of Union tourism, investment and corporate engagement over the decades and centuries had been meant to establish bonds with these nations. Albany had also faced a call for action and intervention against it by the Kingdom of Taehung which had gone undefended by fellow Commonwealth members. Albany truly at this point felt as though its position was threatened and for the first time since the end of the Great War, the nation felt as though it would have to reconsider its commitments to all states following such an ordeal.

The economy has remained buoyed by the government for the time being so as to avoid the public feeling any of the volatility that would normally be accompanying such dramatic situations. This would surely lead to more borrowing by the government long term if things were not stabilized and to this point the Union was issuing guidance to its partners in the Commonwealth that another 5% of the general Commonwealth budget would no longer be paid for by Albany in light of recent events.

With the suspension of tourism and air travel to Taehung and the raising of tariffs on importing Union goods to that nation, companies in the Union were voluntarily announcing they would suspend trade to the Taehunian markets until their government reversed course and stopped punishing them and the people of their own nation as the raising of tariffs on the imports would surely do more damage at home than abroad. Some in the media in Albany, notably Eagle News, have taken to mocking the response by the childish Kingdom, though the official response by the government of His Majesty has been impassive in their response. No additional measures would be taken against the Kingdom at this time.

Extraordinary Commonwealth Session Called
The Chancellor of the Commonwealth has called the Commission to an extraordinary session to discuss the ongoing situation in Albany, the threat of sanctions by the World Society or Valentian Alliance as well as the unfortunate incident with the TAF-937 downing. Albany has expressed reservations about the bloc’s response to the slew of situations. Thus far it has remained unclear whether or not the Commonwealth would step in to attempt to reduce the rising tensions, notably between Albany and Vekkla over the latters so blatant refusal to aid the former in apprehended wanted criminals, all of whom are wanted for links to a terror group or inciting violent crimes. Eyes of the political sphere in New Gate would be upon the meeting.

A Job Well Done
Even in times of tension and crisis the march forward cannot be stalled or denied. Prime Minister Prescott was joined by the Director of the Commonwealth Space Program as well as several of the other prominent private space company executives in Albany to celebrate the orbital insertion of the JEM3 VA mission to Janus had been successfully completed. It was momentous as they would soon see this VA mission become the first ever to land on a celestial body beyond Vesta’s orbit. Truly a day that would inspire generations to come was just on the horizon and the Prime Minister offered the Union’s enthusiastic congratulations to the team and to the Valentian Alliance for its triumph. A job well done.
