On the Repeated Attempts to Condemn Appalachia

A Statement On the Countless Condemnation Attempts against Appalachia

Ah, Fort Knox. Another successful infiltration, which has brought us yet another soon-to-be unsuccessful proposal to condemn me. It even comes with a liberation targeting Fort Knox! What is this, the fourth time? Fifth time? I've lost count. Anyways, in light of the never ending cascade of condemnation and liberation attempts targeting me, I believe I should take a moment to address the matter seriously gameside as opposed to leaving my position relegated to the forums.

Before I begin, I want to preface this by saying this dispatch is primarily tailored for the users who are attempting to pass these proposals, not those of you who are dunking on them - although you folks may learn something new here too. I want to make it very clear what condemnations and commendations, henceforth referred to as C/Cs, are functionally used for in the modern security council climate.

Both condemnations and commendations are badges, in short, they generally represent an acknowledgement of a nation based on its contributions to the community and hard work. Under no circumstances are they to be awarded to fascists or problematic users, and more recently, they are not to be awarded to raiders either. Although you may find very old condemnations which targeted despicable fascist bastions of the past such as NAZI EUROPE, this was in the early days of the council before the status quo of not awarding such entities was established. To the uninitiated, this may seem counterintuitive to the idea of a condemnation, but condemnations on NationStates do nothing besides place a little shiny thing on a region or nation. This little shiny thing is something such users would wear as a badge of honor, not a mark of shame. Therefore, it is the position of virtually all major regions and community figures that condemnations ought not be awarded to them in order to avoid this.

With this clarified, I would like to direct your attention to this dispatch, which details my previous association with such users many years ago in what became a long campaign of sabotage until I backstabbed them. If you've read it, then keep reading, but if not, consider stopping to do so before continuing. This past affiliation with such users around 2018-2022 is the reason C/Cs will never pass on me or my regions. This game is largely a hobbesian dumpster fire of people fighting over nothing and trying to make each other look bad. If you have anything that could possibly be seen as a stain on your record, it will be permanent - and it will affect your eligibility for things like C/Cs. A good deal of NationStates sees this history as an unforgettable stain, so in their eyes, any C/C regarding myself or my regions is to be instantly dismissed.

In response to this, you may be wondering "who even gets condemned then?" Well, they are for nations and regions which play the part of a villain in an IC (in-character) context well. An example of a proper condemnation can be found here, regarding Psychotic Dictatorships. This region was, more or less, acknowledged for its amusing satire of real world dictatorships, longevity, and extensive roleplay - not because they actually believe the ideologies they espouse, which is only IC.

Additionally, you generally need to get consent from the nominee prior to submitting your C/C proposal. I was never asked by the authors of this, this, this, or other proposals if I wanted to be condemned. And guess what? My answer to them would be no! Personally, I don't think I would like to be condemned or commended, as I do not seek the approval or attention of those I do not know, and I never will. I don't really know anybody on this game (not anybody who remains active today anyways), so I do not seek either of these badges. Even if we assume a condemnation would be a statement against my actions, which we have already established is not the case, I will always do whatever I find fun in a game regardless of what people I don't know think, and since I know none of you, you will never be able to influence me to do anything to the contrary. This renders any conceivable condemnation attempt against me pointless.

On the other hand, we have liberations and injunctions. The difference with these is that they carry tangible gameplay consequences and ARE typically used against those who are ineligible for C/Cs. Liberations strike down passwords imposed by WA delegates, and injunctions forbid a region from transitioning to or from a frontier. That is all they do. With that said, we can look at the current example against Fort Knox. The nation that imposed the password was mine, it achieved governor status and now has absolute power over the region. As aforementioned, liberations only strike down delegate imposed passwords, not passwords imposed by the governor. Therefore, attempting to liberate this region would be pointless. An injunction obviously wouldn't do anything either. There was once an interesting attempt to liberate one of my captured regions, Female Led Empire, because the owner of the puppet who captured it for me has since departed the site and let said puppet CTE. On paper, this would work, as it would remove the password and allow for somebody to raid the region and then remove my embassy and defense puppet. However, as the author of that liberation soon found out in the forum thread for the proposal, nobody would support that either because there was no native community left to return post-liberation, and the captured region was previously a sexist cesspool which everybody agreed was better off left destroyed.

So, with all of that said, this is why your proposals against me can not and will not ever pass. They may reach quorum, which can mislead you into believing you have a lot of support, but anything can reach quorum these days. You only need a few dozen WA delegates to approve your proposal out of the thousands of WA delegates in the game - which is not an appropriate metric for gauging support. A simple telegram campaign can get any rubbish proposal to quorum these days. I may sound like Bhang Bhang Duc right now, but he says that about your proposals every time because it's true. Let this be your warning that you need to do your research before you create a proposal, otherwise it will get torn to shreds every time in the forums and at vote. I may be an evil overlord on NationStates, but I don't want anyone to think they're being bullied because they tried to condemn me. So please, do yourself a favor and choose somebody else to nominate.

TL;DR to those who keep trying to pass these rubbish proposals: I don't want a C/C, nobody important wants me to have a C/C, you don't understand what a C/C even is, so stop trying.
(But if you must try anyways, thank you, because when they do come up my friends and I always have a good laugh at the expense of pretty much everybody else involved <3)
