When you first join the game, you will be bombarded by dozens of telegrams from people asking you to join their region. These are known as "recruitment telegrams": their only purpose is to advertise regions, and they can easily be turned off. If you're reading this, you've chosen the objectively correct region, and will want to turn these off. To do so, simply go to your Telegrams inbox, found at the top of the page in PC, and under the menu with your nation on it on mobile:
Then, click on Preferences. It should be below the "Inbox" drop-down menu, next to two other options saying "Select All" and "Expand All":
Finally, first click on "Block All" under recruitment: when selected, this option completely stops recruitment telegrams from getting to you. Once you've selected the option, click on "Update Filter" to save your preferences, so that you won't get a recruitment telegram ever again.
Congrats on stopping all the telegram spam! The next step is to join the World Assembly. Being a part of the World Assembly enables you to vote on international legislation, propose laws of your own, and endorse your regionmates, strengthening regional security. Note that to join the World Assembly, your nation must have an e-mail attached to it: this is because applying sends you a confirmation email, which you will have to click on to be able to join the WA. The game will also prevent you from joining the WA on two nations if they have the same e-mail: therefore, you should use the same e-mail address for all nations you make, as having more than one of your nations be in the WA is forbidden. To join the WA, click on "World Assembly" in your sidebar to the left of your screen. On mobile, this is also under the menu.
Then, click on the Apply to Join button. It's located next to a line stating the amount of WA nations and World Assembly Delegates that are in the game.
Now go over to your e-mail inbox. You should have received an e-mail that looks like this:
Click on the link, and enjoy your shiny new WA nation!
Now that you're in the World Assembly, you should endorse our WA Delegate, Omnicontrol. Endorsing the Delegate not only improves the influence and security of our region, granting us more credibility and a more significant voice in the world stage: it also automatically makes you an Adherent. Adherency is most easily obtained by endorsing the WA Delegate, and allows you to vote and run in regional elections and have a say in the Synod, our regional parliament. Our current delegate is Omnicontrol. Endorsing her is as simple as going to this link, and clicking on "Endorse Omnicontrol", like so:
Click on the button, and you'll be an Adherent. Now, head over to the next step to be able to enjoy the benefits of Adherency.
You are now an Adherent! To enjoy the full benefits of Adherency, you should join our regional Discord server. All of our government business is conducted on Discord, including elections and parliamentary votes: this makes vote counting and debate much more accessible and easier to manage. To join the Discord server, just click on this link.
Don't worry! NationStates is a very diverse game with tons of different ways to play, so it can get a little overwhelming to a newcomer. Thankfully, many resources exist to tell you about all of the different aspects of the game, such as the official FAQ or this Guide to NationStates, which has been around for years. Once you read these, you should also read the One Stop Rules Shop, which outlines what is and isn't permitted in this game: although the rules are quite simple, and as long as you remain kind to other posters and avoid insults or bigoted rhetoric, you should be safe.
If none of this solves your question, feel free to ask! Both our Regional Message Board (RMB) and the Technical forum are full of people happy to help you out. Do understand that responses won't be immediate, and you will have to wait until someone spots your post.
