How does trial by combat count as capital punishment?

Actavii wrote:How does trial by combat count as capital punishment?

Because the winner is proclaimed to be right, and the loser is assumed to be in the wrong (and probably dies in combat). Thus, the people who are in the wrong are put to death, making trial by combat a form of capital punishment.

Well it's kind of barbaric for 2126.

That makes sense

True but Actavii needs some new forms of entertainment

Vaas's administration reminds Solefore that even though both Fushcor and Barvendetch is at war with Actavii, it does not mean that they are in the same war.

After accusations against Fushcor by Actavii got sent to the international community, it is still unclear wether Fushcor appointed and is funding the millitant group or not. After more accusations were made by Actavii, Fuskoriai officials are slowly becoming worried if the information will spread more.

Actavii rejects Fushcor's reasoning as having nothing to do with Bravendetch is also a good reason to host them in a negotiation.

Batakhovia

"На канцы нашых штыкоў будзе мір, таварышы!"
Vasilyezhynsk-15, the Republic of Rasolka, Batakhovia
10th March, 2126

The military townlet of Vasilyezhynsk-15 was as silent as the dead within the mountainous forestry of the Rasolkan steppe, a little over 25km from the city from which it derives its name. Consisting of a few dilapidated concrete apartment blocks with peeling white paint, and a statue of President Zylinski in the town square that stared imperiously into the glaring sunrise, surrounded by a ring of razor wire electrified fencing, it was an inauspicious place to be relocated to in the Commonwealth. Nevertheless necessary were the various Kupol satellites that dotted the hilly terrain as early warning missile detection installations, serving as the thankless bulwark against the outside world. Officers of the Commonwealth Aerospace Defence Forces were taught to be extremely alert and suspicious of anything that might be construed as a sign of incoming danger, to never take anything on face value and to always - ALWAYS - report everything up the chain, even if it seemed obvious in their mind to be a false alarm.

For Colonel Tahir Alenov, it was the perfect place to teach his pet protege, Iziasava Borushko (now a Lieutenant), the valuable lesson of vigilance. The Colonel's limousine arrived at the punctual time of 5:59am along the deteriorating winding roads that led up towards the gate, barking German shepherds and guards with assault rifles swooping on the vehicle with bomb detection equipment. Borushko, for her part, found herself instinctively counting each soldier and ruminating in her mind how she might kill each one if she had to.

'Chances of success? 97.8%', she'd concluded after a moment of deliberation, having counted 15 soldiers in total. The two snipers in the guard towers accounted for the 2.2% chance of failure. Colonel Alenov looked over to her, saw that hazy look of unconscious bloodlust in her hazel green eyes, and shook his head slowly. She immediately snapped out of it, as though never having the thought to begin with. His window rolled down and he promptly presented his identification to the guard, who looked over it briefly, before passing it back and saluting.

"Sorry for the delay, Comrade-Colonel. Who is your accomplice in the vehicle?" The guard inquired apologetically. Alenov turned to him with a look of mild dislike.

"She is classified military property. Now open the gate."

"Yes, Comrade-Colonel, at once! HEY, IDYJOTY!" The guard hollered towards the sentries nearby with gusto, "OPEN THE GATE!"

Borushko said nothing in response to being referred to as property (she supposed that all military personnel were, in a way, property of the state), watching as the limousine slowly rolled past the open gates and into the courtyard, pulling up in front of one of the apartments where another guard waited to open the door for her and the Colonel. Alenov stood outside for a moment on the gravel path surrounding the apartment block for a moment, observing the burnished figure of dear Comrade-Marshal and President Yaramir Zylinski who clutched a Bible to his breast and extended a commanding hand towards him, as though beckoning him on the path towards glorious Revolutionary development. Impassively, he reached into his breast pocket for his cigarettes and put one to his lips, lighting it with a silver zippo before taking a long and slow drag. A long column of smoke billowed out through his nostrils before he finally spoke to Iziasava.

"What made you join the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth, Lieutenant?"

Iziasava hesitated for a moment, standing in an erect posture with her mech-pilot helmet tucked under her arm. She briefly opened her mouth to repeat the usual idealistic slogans that they were all taught in military academy, but closed it again, sensing that wasn't what he was looking for.

"The truth, Lieutenant. Your truth. Tell me what you think was the reason that brought you here." He stated with a calm patience in his voice.

"I was conscripted, Comrade-Colonel." She replied meekly, a shrug of her shoulders audible in how she expressed this.

"As were many others." He nodded slowly, "You fight as a Batakhovian should, talk like a Batakhovian should, but you still do not think as one ought. When you hear our Comrade-President speak on television, your heart overflows with love and reverence, rightly so - but doubts still nag at your mind. Is it really as bad as he says it is? What if what Oceania is the harbinger of peace, not war? What of the various untold nations we readily arm ourselves against? What of their aspirations? We are here to dispel any doubts you may have remaining, Lieutenant."

Iziasava didn't reply to him, for openly speaking words of defeatism was punishable by firing squad in the most egregious of circumstances, merely following him as he led her into the apartment complex and into the elevator lift. The accompanying guard stepped in after them, reaching for a keycard and slotting it into the port that was labeled 'Maintenance.' With a brief jerk, the elevator began its swift descent into the subterranean bowels of Vasilyezhynsk-15 proper.

"The United Oceanian Isles knows of your existence now, Lieutenant. But we, too, play our games, as you will shortly see." Colonel Alenov alluded vaguely, a brief smile crossing his face before he took another drag of his cigarette. "You must be prepared for what you may soon face."

"Yes, Comrade-Colonel." She responded, concealing the uncertainty in her voice. The long elevator ride past layers of concrete infrastructure was making her anxious for what she might she once she was down there. Outside appearances did not do any justice for what greeted her once the doors slid open. A chaotic stampede of men in uniform with datapads, running past one another in a chamber littered with various screens depicting world events; the collapse of Vimia, the ongoing Fushcor-Actavii War, support from Barvendetch in these efforts, and now revelations of Project Hardshot just having reached them from the Commonwealth Security Bureau, along with the multifaceted projections of potential invasions of Cyvaria depicted with a variety of arrows that pushed inland from the surrounding shores. All of it pointed to danger for the Commonwealth.

"The Ministry of Foreign Relations has officially signalled to Fushcor that we have no interest in assisting them with their ongoing war." Colonel Alenov continued as didactically as ever, "Actually, the General Staff is considering their options, evaluating whether their Republic might be a valuable ally in guaranteeing our independence against any future Oceanic confrontation. We cannot send equipment or troops and maintain our official neutrality in the matter... But we can potentially send you, Lieutenant... Can't we?"

The cybernetics in her mind worked away, proffering the answer she knew he wanted, making her want it just as much as he did.

"We can, Comrade-Colonel."

To the esteemed Office of the United Oceanian Isles,

Your invitation has been received by our office. Unfortunately, the President of the Commonwealth and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth will be unable to attend due to ongoing state matters. The Ministry of Foreign Relations will be happy to send Secretary Khaarchaana Kulanova in their stead to engage in informal diplomatic discussion during the convention. Please note that the Secretary will not be taking any questions from the Oceanian press at any stage during the event.

Additionally, the Commonwealth has no interest in trading technological innovations at this time. Thank you for your expression of interest.

Warm regards,

Arkadzey Yakovenko

Adam Novarc looks himself over in his mirror one last time. Combing his hair to be perfect to an imaginary standard, he reaches it after his assistant knocks on the door with a newly updated count of the crowd outside. He swigs the bathroom door open with as much confidence as possible, or at least enough to stop him from buckling under the pressure.

The average-sized man steps out in front of his house to address the crowd.

"Friends, friends! Let's get right to the heart of this issue. We will support the war efforts with the full brunt of the Ovian soul and earn our independence." He ushers the crowd of settlers to follow him to the town administration building to begin organizing the support efforts for Fushcor.

Batakhovia

“Нацыянальнае амаладжэнне будуецца на падмурку прамысловасці!”
Sarogorsk, the Republic of Baikonur, Batakhovia
15th of March, 2126

The southernmost autonomous province of the Commonwealth had, for the better part of a decade, been the subject of intense ridicule and stereotypes as unwashed, backwards nomads of the plains who lived in yurts and rode horses, owing to a short-lived series of politically incorrect satirical movies set in the Republic of Baikonur some years before. Such a notion, of course, was wholly incorrect, but Baikonur had seldom received such incredible attention relative to the rest of the Commonwealth until recently, when President Zylinski had pledged a substantial boost in heavy industries for the workers of Sarogorsk. The once impoverished, crime-plagued city of rotting concrete apartment blocks and neglected roadways had been riding high off the redevelopment boom, glistening with highrise skyscrapers and awe inspiring mosques with snow-white minarets that touched the sky with their majesty. Money was flowing back into the local economy now that people had a reason to stay instead of seek work further north in inner Batakhovia or Tsenkhir, where they had been increasingly outstaying their welcome in the eyes of the locals. The Prime Minister of Baikonur knew, however, that an economy predicated on real estate speculation was a house of cards doomed to fail when under unfavourable circumstances and petitioned for an investment into the next phase of military rearmament. A population of 43 million people had made effective power projection a long-term issue for the country in the wake of stagnating fertility rates they were unable to address, instead now bolstering Army ranks through cheap and easily replaceable machine infantry, an endeavor they would be front and center of.

That faith in the Baikonurian people was now about to come to fruition. While Secretary Khaarchaana Kulanova was reluctantly flying out to the islands of Oceania to represent vague Commonwealth interests at the New Islesla Technology Convention, President Yaramir Zylinski himself was in Sarogorsk alongside Mayor Akhmet Serikov - a short balding man with rounded spectacles and a thin black goatee - to oversee the opening of Kopysski Robotics Factory No. 1. Many local residents had gathered, not just for the epoch-making occasion in their shared national future, but because the vast majority of them had only seen their President on television or in the mandatory portraits placed across schools and government buildings. Whatever reservations any of them may have had for a foreign leader ruling over them, for their own sake, all remained silent as he gave his speech from the podium outside the factory.

“Comrades,

Today marks one week before Ramadan. I would like to thank all former and current workers of our construction and defense industries for their conscious and responsible approach and dedication to their work here in Sarogorsk. We're very proud of the achievements of the designers, engineers and workers who made an invaluable contribution to not only the development of heavy industries here in Baikonur, but the defense and security of the Commonwealth as a whole, in equipping our Armed Forces at the highest technical level.

Under the guidance of Comrade-Mayor Akhmet Serikov, and with the united will, effort and determination of the Baikonurian people, our domestic defense industries will be instrumental in forging the weapons and equipment required for the challenges of the 22nd Century, actively increasing production volumes in order to fulfill the demands of the future. And, of course - I would like to stress this once again - we pay tribute to the veterans of the industry, the many generations before us, whose hard work and talent helped build the defense capabilities of the Batakhovian nation for many centuries. I congratulate everybody involved in this Herculean task, and and wish good health and results for the benefit of the Commonwealth and Baikonur.

This factory is named after Dr. Alaksiej Kopysski, a statesman, Minister of Imperial Sciences in the former times, a man who made immense contributions to the development of the south, our country, the economy, key industries, and proved himself a talented researcher in the field of robotics. I am confident that this facility will be worthy of that glorious name; after all, this is a state-of-the-art complex equipped with the latest manufacturing processes and is, without exaggeration, among the best in its class internationally. You will all face new and important challenges in the future however, including increasing localization of production, and the wide use of domestic developments and solutions. But I am absolutely sure that, with each new unit delivered, the level of localization at Sarogorsk will increase. No matter what, we will achieve our goals.

In conclusion of my opening remarks, I would like to cordially wish you a happy holiday as well as every success in the future and all the best.”

Stepping down from the podium, the President and Mayor Serikov joined one another with a pair of scissors and, together, snipped the red ribbon at the front entrance of the factory to rapturous applause, the glistening steel gates an allegorical symbol of the new dawn opening up to them towards uncharted horizons as a military band crashed into a patriotic anthem of the Commonwealth.

Activian Involvement Pt.3
16th March, 2126

Once an area full of residents and is known for it's enviromental beauty surrounding the small-sized city of Kraitz is now slowly turning into a battlefield. Not so surprisingly, the Battle of Kraitz has gone on for a consciderable amount of days, stretching to weeks. With Fuskoriai forces covering as much as 4km of Kraitz from Poli Coastal Bíc. But there is something planned from the offense.

As forces from Fuskoriai remain in control of half of the area, reinforcements has been on it's way to the shattered land of Actav-Vimo. Actavii, being succesful in previous containment of Fuskoriai invasion has learnt from it's mistakes and evenly deployed it's forces between Harlond and Kraitz.

Fuskoriai ships were seen coming towards East Actav-Vimo. Their arrival wasnt much known due to mainly large amounts of Barvendetch supervision in the area. As reinforcements arrived, the forces slowly head towards Kraitz through the flat forests of Marímbe. In an effort to surround Activian troops trying to secure Kraitz, it's a SUCCESS.

Casualties and losses of Activian forces trapped within the circle of hell are in counting as Fushcor has regained it's control and successfuly invaded Kraitz with even greater forces.

At sunrise, Actaviian forces assaulted Fushcorian positions near the coast in what seemed like an encirclement attempt. This continued until 4pm when attacks began along the rest of the front.

With Fushcorian troops being redeployed to the coastal areas due to the initial sustained assault, the rest of the frontline was weakened. This allowed Actaviian troops to advance within 4 km of Kraitz town square by nightfall. However, advances on the coast are at most 1.5 km.

RP: Exclusion
17 March 2126

Prime Minister William Russell has ordered the ban of all non-Frontieran warships and military sea vessels from passing through the straits and channels between Frontier Isles, its Crown Territories of Canton Coast and Amaquao bay, and the Frontieran Occupation Zone in the Vimia. Lines of No Return (LNRs) have been drawn over these waters and the sea bordered by this entire area has been declared as the Southeast Sea Total Exclusion Area (SSTEZ). Military sea vessels and military aircraft entering the SSTEZ will be warned and asked to leave by the Frontier Isles Armed Forces. Sea vessels and aircraft that fail to comply with these orders will be fired upon by Frontier Isles without further warning.

As a result of this declaration, the Actaviian and Fushcorian militaries will only be able to reach Actav-Vimio by crossing through the strait to the southeast of Actavii. This may pose a risk to the Fushcorian war effort, as the western end of this strait is blocked off by the Frontieran SSTEZ, and the northeastern end of this strait is controlled and heavily monitored by Actavii.

In the Frontieran occupation zone in the Vimia, the Frontieran military government has begun the planning of a potential new highway route in the occupation zone. David Seung, Supreme Commander of Frontier Isles Armed Forces in the Vimia, hopes to revitalize Vimian infrastructure before the ultimate reunification of the Vimian state as prescribed by the Champlain Accord of 2122. Highways in the occupation zones in the Vimia are marked by the purple dashed lines on the attached map.

Southeast Sea Total Exclusion Zone

Map of the Southeast Sea Total Exclusion Zone

The Southeast Sea Total Exclusion Zone (SSTEZ), alternately named the Southeastern Sea Total Exclusion Zone, is an area declared by Frontier Isles on 17 March 2126 and bounded by the Lines of No Return (LNRs) marked between the Federation of Frontier Isles, the Crown Territory of Canton Coast, the Frontieran occupation zone in the Vimia, and the Crown Territory of Amaquao Bay. Any military sea vessel or military aircraft from any country (except the Kingdom of Frontier Isles and the Frontieran occupation zone in the Vimia) crossing an LNR and entering the Southeast Sea Total Exclusion Zone will be ordered to retreat from the SSTEZ. Sea vessels and aircraft that fail to retreat are liable to be fired upon by the Frontier Isles Armed Forces without further warning.

Will oceanian vessels and craft be able to pass through to aid both frontierian and oceanian zones?

Another thing is that the map will be put in action once borders are approved, i will try to add Frontier island's chain back in a more realistic manner

The Frontieran government notes that there is a small strip of water to the north of the Line of No Return (dashed line) in the Vimian bay that is not included in the SSTEZ. This was specifically done to allow Oceania to retain its territorial waters in the Vimia and to allow Oceanian ships to continue to reach its occupation zone in the Vimia. Although the Frontieran government will try to avoid firing on the Oceanian military, the Frontieran government advises Oceania to use Vimian railways and highways for transportation between the Frontieran and Oceanian occupation zones.

I figured having more islands in the chain would make more sense because of the Oceanian-Frontieran high speed rail. It's hard to dig super long tunnels under the ocean.

18th March, 2126

The flight from Duchersk had been dull and uneventful for the crew of BHF-411, a cacophony of droning noise rattling throughout the interior of the IL-76TD that was listed as a civilian cargo aircraft for the Batakhovian Humanitarian Foundation. Besides the pilots, the crew made little conversation, just counting away the hours of the long-distance state of purgatory and boredom, the late hours of the 17th of March creeping over into the midnight of the 18th, a full moon basking the grey and baby-blue vessel in a dimly incandescent light. They were due for none other than the warzone in Vimia on an apparently benign mission of war relief for the disaffected civilians in the region, all proceeding according to schedule when the radio crackled to life, a cool and calm voice on the other side informing them that an exclusion zone had been declared by the Frontier Isles over the Southeast Sea. The pilots glanced to each other with a hint of conceit. Navigating militarized destinations was the bread and butter of the BHF, and whilst the command given to the public was for military aircraft to turn away, they were no military aircraft.

Not officially, anyway.

The cargo plane shuddered slightly from the turbulence as they navigated the coast of Mosquito Island, the crystal waters playing with moonlight refractions against the tiny shadow of their passing as one of the pilots opened up the comms, speaking through to whomever was listening in on the other side.

"BHF Flight 441, this is the Frontier Isles Aviation Administration. We have no record of your flight receiving prior approval from the FIAA. We request that you do not fly over any land to avoid entering Frontieran sovereign airspace. We also request that you land at Port Victoria International Airport in Canton Coast for customs inspections. The Royal Air Force will escort you to Port Victoria if you do not comply. Over."
