Yea. I figured our gov was incompetent and greedy but this just blows everything out of the water. My favorite conspiracy is that this was made specifically to kill off boomers to ease our pension crisis. For some weird reason I feel more comfortable if this actually was a bioweapon for some reason.

But by next week or so we are going to really have a crisis on our hands. It's just that our society is specifically made to get particularly hit hard by this. Everyone is poor, everything is made in china, poor health system, no one wears masks, self centered and not believing in restriction of movement or distancing, ect. Honestly I feel that this will be the thing that puts the USA off the global superpower status. We are absolutely not prepared at all. I keep on texting my sister who works in healthcare(and doesn't believe in flu shots) and she keeps telling me it's not bad. I stress that multiple countries have shut down and have their hospitals over run and she thinks it can't happen here. At least my job is taking this more seriously(it only took a freaking pandemic) if only to keep us working.

Hilariously enough my house also stocked up on toilet paper because each of us independently got more so now we have over 100 rolls. I also got enough food for 2 months. So baring my housemate shooting me with his rifle to get my food we're good if we don't get it and infect each other. If the government won't help me I just have to help myself.

edit: I just heard that my local hospital seems to be montering its healcare workers due to one of the patients who was confirmed. This is really not good if our hospitals fall first.

edit 2 because this is going so fast now: Now New York has declared a quarantine and is moving in troops

We need to protect western democracy from the United States!

We will just treat corona virus the same way we treat climate change.

Personally, I believe the biggest danger of a pandemic in the modern age is panic and fear. The media often blows so many things out of the water and shoves so much in our faces that the Horseman of Pestilence might as well have been seen personally scything people down.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't be cautious, but I'm definitely saying that too many people overreact and make matters worse. Conspiracy theories, misinformation, and panic buying (I'M LOOKING AT YOU TOILET PAPER HOARDERS), etc. The last especially reduces the amount of supplies available for hospitals, such as N95 masks.

Yea it's like the South when threat of snow is coming. Everyone raids the shelves in fear of an entire inch of snow.. Fear is the reason.. fear we will see another 1993 superstorm. back then we laughed at the forecast.. A blizzard in Atlanta?! Inconceivable. Then it happened... Cars abandoned and people trapped in their homes for weeks because we had 0 plans for the event of an actual blizzard. It was before thought to be impossible. That storm is the reason why you see the South panic at the word snow even today.

Ah here it is! https://imgur.com/TcnZcOF only the corona virus is a sick not snow so we all gunna freak out..

It's not just toilet paper. Tissue paper are also out of stock everywhere I look. And you know what? So are paper towels, the type for cleaning/wiping oil off the kitchen stove.

I don't need toilet paper or tissue paper, but I need paper towels. I've searched in 3 supermarkets so far and they're all out. It's ridiculous, are people using kitchen towels to wipe their butts?

It's the National guard. But I don't like this, because it turned into a disaster the last time they were called in at Hurricane Katrina. I'll leave you with a quote

"When National Guard troops descended on the city, the Army Times described their role as fighting “the insurgency in the city.” Brigadier Gen. Gary Jones, who commanded the Louisiana National Guard’s Joint Task Force, told the paper, “This place is going to look like Little Somalia. We’re going to go out and take this city back. This will be a combat operation to get this city under control."

I have a lot to say but not wanting to start a debate, I'll just say I disagree. The US's actions are usually pretty self-serving, and often destabilizing.

The really fun part is when certain analysts look at the slowing spread numbers from China and declare that everything's fine. There's a reason the outbreak's slowed significantly there, and it's sure as heck not replicable in much of the west, given there'd be outright revolts if some of the measures taken were carried over- draconian curfews, mass travel bans, and so on. Crisis management of this nature is one of the strong points of authoritarian regimes, and seeing some people assuming the same containment is viable elsewhere without the same levels of effort being put in is kinda scary.

And of course, we have concerted efforts from the US government to call it 'Chinese Coronavirus'. So I guess at least we know they have their priorities straight during a crisis...

I honestly feel it's the opposite. Too many people have become complacent and can't comprehend that an emergency will happen. Not to mention our poor education and medical systems. Why just today I was shopping and saw people whipping their noses with their bare hands then immediately touch stuff. Also since quarantines won't work in the US do to our "freedom" TM culture this will get really out of hand in the US.

Well it's in Arkansas now.. poop..

good one Tiku, cuz newspapers these days are full of sh*t anyway lol

Just heard Trump banned EU travellers from entering the US. Also, Tom Hanks declared he has Covid19 in Australia

Of course, in typical fashion, the original ban was announced to be for all travel from europe, not just foreigners; and also included goods getting imported, but that's since been walked back to him having 'misspoken'. Similarly, announcing that insurance providers would waive copays across the board, when they only agreed to waive copays for testing/diagnosis.
The mixed messages really aren't helping the response, so it's largely up to individual states to do what they can to curb the spread :v

Huh, I've been making some great economic choices lately. Apparently it's thriving, though I want that to reflect in my citizens' average disposable income. Be more productive, citizens, so I can lower the tax rate!

What I'd like to know is, is it possible that the coronavirus has been spreading in the US earlier than reported?

My cousin, who works as a GP in Washington state told us in whatsapp chat that he suspects covid-19 has been spreading since early Jan or before, as he's seen a lot of people with viral-pneumonia at the turn of the new year, even though it was only on January 21 that the first coronavirus case was tested and confirmed. Initially, the guideline was only people coming from China displaying these symptoms could be tested.

It makes me wonder if previous untested cases have been misdiagnosed as "flu". According to the AAP, the flu season this year has been unusual. Its death toll until February has been "higher than the same time period in every season since reporting began in 2004-’05, except for the H1N1 pandemic in 2009." (www.aappublications.org/news/2020/02/28/flu022820)

In a hearing yesterday, CDC said:

Some good news, I've managed to get a box of tissue paper today. A colleague bought it for me during her shopping (we promised to buy for each other if we ever saw stock available).

Edit: I've created a new poll

Also I hope the stories about toilet paper being 50 dollars a pack is just a meme.. I remember gas prices rose to 8 dollars a gallon after Katrina due to price gouging. Guessing a similar problem is happening now.

Goddess Relief Office wrote:My cousin, who works as a GP in Washington state told us in whatsapp chat that he suspects covid-19 has been spreading since early Jan or before, as he's seen a lot of people with viral-pneumonia at the turn of the new year

Pretty much confirmed. There was a study of flu-infected in the Seattle area in Jan, and samples were turned over to the government for testing. Because of red tape, it took a while to actually get that done, but a number came up covid-positive

So when people say that we've had a really bad flu season they really mean that we've have Coronavirus longer than we thought? Oh, boy!

So now travel is shut down between Europe and USA. Still find it hard to believe that Trump closed borders between Europe before Mexico. lol

Also does anyone else think Trump may have the virus? He seemed not himself in that last announcement and seeing as how the virus is in congress. This made me think. Seeing as how our government and many governments around the world have old people as leaders. Imagine the chaos that will ensue in our societies when half of our government is dead or in the hospital. This plus the shut down of global trade, the oil and stock market crashes, climate change, pension crisis, ect. We are living in a history changing moment folks!

All we need is a third world war and everything will be complete!

Well I'm glad I live in the Deep South. It should get really hot soon and allegedly that will slow it down if not outright stop it.

Hear ye, hear ye!

The Kingdom of Yutah has declared its national faith to be Harmony! Harken to the Royal Proclamation from our wise King Yutah!

Harmony, while due to technical constraints is listed as a faith in world adminisitrative systems, is less a religion and more a guide to a certain lifestyle. As the name suggests, the fundamental goal is harmony, where citizens live with each other in, at the very least, a state of peace, and hopefully, a state of cordial, respectful, harmonious co-existence.

So it is declared.

But anyway, Congratz!

We should make a Union of Double Posting.

I can't make myself have two unrelated topics in one post.

Unfortunately, Corona-chan decided to stick to the food instead, and a passer-by who ate it was infected.

Infected +1!
