Muhammad Safar, Prime Minister of Gorabo since 2 October 2002, leader of the Islamic Welfare Party (IWP), runs in the Qurayya district.

Election debates have commenced this weekend in 100 of the 200 districts for MPs in the unicameral legislative body (House of Delegates), with debates in the other 100 occuring tomorrow on Saturday. Debates in Gorabo are organized in town hall meetings by district, where citizens voice their questions regarding policy issues such as food production, climate change, the role of Islam in the public life, and trade. These town hall meetings, unlike in other nations, are not televised so as to prevent any kind of brash statements towards the wider public in order to gain publicity.

The three main candidates are the incumbent Prime Minister, His Excellency Muhammad Safar, who has lead the government since 2002 and has been in power for three consecutive terms. He leads the Islamic Welfare Party, a party whose platform is built on social welfare programs, a free market economic system, and Islamic social values. Polls in Gorabo have largely projected the Islamic Welfare Party to be reelected.

However, a strong challenger has been found in Taymullah Firman, the leader of the Republican Party, which has not won an election since 1992, an election which was mired with corruption and allegations of fraud and intimidation. Despite this, it is still the second largest party in Gorabo and Firman is the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Delegates. Traditionally, the Republican Party (RP) has been based on secular social values, a free market economy, free international trade, and a smaller government and smaller welfare state. They were the dominant party in Gorabo from the introduction of parliamentary democracy in the late 1910s till the 1970s, when the IWP started gaining ground. However, Firman has become party leader based on a platform of maintaining the social welfare apparatus, and in particular for instituting a universal basic income for all Goraboese citizens above the age of 18, along with social liberal values which the IWP previously championed, but have slowly shifted away from in recent years. Particularly, the loosening of laws on domestic violence and FGM, as well as increased restrictions on abortions, along with proposals from some IWP members to imprison homosexuals, have caused controversy, especially in more of the urban areas of the country, and among women voters. Polls in some districts show that his new platform for the RP may steer them to victory in key districts, and potentially cause one of the closest elections in Gorabo since 2008. However, he has largely failed to distance the party from its "Arab supremacist" and tyrannical, which is likely going to cost Firman the votes of Gorabo's minority groups and naturalized immigrants (primarily Mehravans).

The third candidate runs for the Socialist Party, which has traditionally ran on a similar platform to what Firman runs on for the RP, but due to a lack of candidates with strong leadership values, they have failed to fill the gap the RP has left as a strong opposition contender in recent decades. The leader of the party is Zayed Selim, running on the traditional Socialist platform of social welfare programs, socially liberal and left-wing policies and values, and with increased regulation of the private sector. He advocates for a "Green Reconstruction" to wean the nation off of its primary exports of oil and natural gas and to stimulate job growth, along with heavier trade barriers across the TRP, and to enshrine legislation for domestic violence penalties, the right to have relationships for homosexuals, and abortion legalization into the Constitution. They are more popular among the nation's ethnic and religious minorities than the RP, and they are likely to form a coalition with the RP and Firman against Safar and the IWP.

These 3 are the major candidates, and the polls are showing that this is likely to be a tight election. It is unknown who will become the new Prime Minister, and in all likelihood, this could be the election to break the IWP's grip on Goraboese politics.

Minor parties such as the Conservative Party (CONP), an Islamist party built on strict adherence to Sharia law and fiscal conservatism has been relegated to a minor party, with much of its supporter base only consisting of the top percentage of income earners, who even then have been shifting away from the CP. Other minor parties like the National Party and Communist Party also take part and have registered candidates, along with regional parties catered towards certain ethnic groups who usually end up as kingmakers of coalitions on the national level.

The election will be held across the nation on the 25th of September

NEFERHEIM DELEGATES LAND IN SOFREZIA, PRESIDENT STAVOS BRINGING ALLIES TO OUR SHORES

At approximately eight o’clock yesterday morning representative council members of the Neferheim Government landed at ‘Ilias Katsaros Aerodrómio’ to a rousing Sofrezian welcome. The red carpet was laid out in style, flocked on both sides by high ranking members of both the Sofrezian Revolutionary Armies 1st Presidential Guard, and SAPNOS’s ‘Ierí Etaireía’, who later gave an impressive synchronized demonstration as the Neferheim councillors stepped out from their plane.

They were met on the ground by the Commanding Officer of the base, General Oxana Michelakakis and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Liliya Spiros, who warmly shook hands with the leader of the group and Head of the JSA, Jacob Roiters. As the introductions went forward, the national anthems of both countries were played by the recently reborn Syropolis National Band and a long convoy of limousines and armed cars rolled onto the tarmac.

The group then departed Ilas Katsaros for the Paláti ton Proédron in the heart of Syropolis where they would be greeted by the President himself on the steps of the Western Facade. President Stavos and Mister Roiters seemed to share a laugh as the two shook hands for the first time. The two briefly posed for photos with members of the press within the Inner Sanctuary of the Palace before heading behind closed doors.

Whilst a nineteen-gun salute was fired from the historic Autumn War Cannons outside of the Palace, President Stavos took Mister Roiters aside into the Resolution Chamber for a traditional Sofrezian toast with a bottle of vintage chardonnay; officially welcoming him to Sofrezia. This is also when the President bestowed upon his guest a gem embezzled sword from the 19th century that once belonged to a member of the old Royal Honour Guard as a welcoming gift.

Talks were later held in the East Gallery, in which it a number of agreements were met:

The 'September Agreement' has been signed that outlines the two nations of Sofrezia and Neferheim as military allies and binds them to come to the other's aid in times of war.

Exercises will take place in each countries' borders in order to train their militaries in foreign environments.

The Aspri Pétra Airfield on the island of Batrae has been recommissioned and leased to Neferheim to become a military airforce base and staging area.

The Bateckt Aircraft Factory has been commissioned to produce six models of their Te-440 amphibious military transport for a total of six million tonnes of coal.

Contractors of the Vira & Danne Construction Company will assist and oversee a number of new housing districts in Neferheim.

Following talks, the visiting dignitaries were allowed to retire to the guest accommodation of Kastro Episkepton within the Palace grounds to refresh and change for the state dinner later that evening.

Ministers, military officers and even celebrities were invited to the dinner, almost numbering one hundred guests who would then assemble in the North Banquet Hall. President Stavos was seated beside Mister Roiters on the centre stage and the two gave impassioned speeches regarding the budding friendship between their two countries and toasted to the beginning of a brighter future for their nations. A four course meal was served on the two hundred year old dining set used by some of the last throngs of Sofrezian Royalty and by the looks of the guests, was well received.

The Neferheim guests are reserved to remain in Sofrezia until the end of the week. They are set to attend a military demonstration, a tour of Sofrezian industries, and experience a plentiful sample of our culture and history.

Dysaphoran elections begin after first electoral debate.

The booths across Dysaphora are finally open as people rush to the booths to submit their party and regional vote. Although it is early days, some parties are off to a good start, dominating some of the regions.

This is a result of last nights debate where each of the parties were given broad questions which each PA answered separately.

Although many topics came and went, the two that stuck were climate change and recreational drug legalisation. Each party had a wildly different view.

The Democrats want to propose a climate treaty if the country were to join the IGP, as well as making efforts to reduce emissions through the new Falcon Rail. They also want to make efforts to legalise lower level recreational drugs, like cannabis, so they may be better regulated and monitored through their distribution by means of vending licenses.

The Progressivists want to fund research to make renewable energy not only cleaner, but more energy efficient, with exciting avenues into fusion power and coastal turbines. They don’t have specific plans to modify the current drug laws in place.

The PDAP think that the weight of climate change should fall on the Dysaphoran people, as they aren’t responsible for the majority of carbon emissions in Anteria, and have openly expressed their plans to lay claim to and exploit oil wells near the Thermopylae Trench. They also have plans to restrict the import of drugs from other nations, as they believe their illegal distribution damages the economy.

The Liberals believe that state vehicles and industries should adapt to climate change, but want to leave the private sector alone. Free distribution and sales of almost all recreational drugs is a priority for the Liberal Party.

Unionists side with the PDAP, in the fact that climate the change is not the responsibility of the Dysaphoran people. They want to regulate the distribution of drugs so that they are only available from the state via a prescription.

Looks good man, but you don't play with your Nationstates stats, you can be as big or as small a nation as you want! If you're going for a small nation then it's fine.

Breaking News from Neuhamlet: The Beginning of Gas Warfare against the Guurissi

They have come to the conclusion that the usage of chemical weaponry is not only inevitable, but necessary, in order to maintain the integrity of the Crown of Neuewland, and thus shall begin the immediate carrying out of these attacks. Although we have no knowledge of what chemicals they shall make use of, one can guess that the extensive stores of Phosgene owned by the government will likely shrink in the coming months.

SOFREZIA DISPLAYS INDUSTRIAL GROWTH AND MILITARY PROWESS TO ENTHRALLED NEFERHEIM GUESTS AS STATE VISIT COMES TO A CLOSE

Two days have passed since the esteemed delegates of the Neferheim council landed in Sofrezia, and in that time the group has been shown the ins-and-outs of Sofrezia’s long and proud history, as well as our growing military prowess in the Marmor Sea, and President Stavos’ plans for the future for our developing country.

The tours started early on friday morning. Following a brief breakfast meal in the Kastro Episkepton the guests were led to their motorcades and taken to the nearby sea base of ‘SGNSB Nycera’ to inspect the docked ships of the Sofrezian Green Navy. Here, guests were greeted by Chancellor of the General Staff, Admiral Nicolaos Pachis, and were later allowed to board the flagship of the Voreia Aspida taskgroup, SVN-FS22 ‘Kato Kastanea’, to inspect her weapon armament and newly upgraded radar and electronic combat systems.

Ten o’clock was when the scheduled flyover was set to occur, and to the second, a loud rumble was heard from beyond the hills. Led by several Te-440 military transports, the very same planes that President Starget had shown interest in purchasing, and flanked by the Sofrezian Airforces’ R-41ZH light attack aircraft, the impressive star formation flew across the seabase to a round of applause from the Neferheim guests.

The Neferheimers were also allowed to participate in a live demonstration of the newly arrived Feldgewehr M98 rifles that had recently been purchased from the Federal Republic of Bakyern. These rifles are expected to fully replace the current standard rifle of the Sofrezian Armed Forces, the Akaron P1, in a few days time.

Next was a tour of the Sofrezian Industrial sectors in Boloserta including; the quickly growing Bartossa Auto company, whom are set to represent Sofrezia in an upcoming GT Racing Tournament; the Aviation Industry Corporation of Sofrezia’s HQ, who oversee all plane production across the nation, and finally; the restarted steel factories of the Ta Deka Milia, where valuable Neferheim coal has played a huge part in helping this essential industry recover.

Last on Friday’s agenda was a planned trip to the historically and culturally significant castle of Vasileís Promachónas, the legendary birthplace of the Serdiz Revolutionary War in 1193 when Sofrezia successfully threw off the chains of the Goraboese Caliphate. However the flight to the castle had to be postponed and then canceled due to a suspected possible attack by members of the DPRS to potentially kill the visiting Neferheim dignitaries.

Thankfully, no such attack came, and the flight was rescheduled for Saturday morning. This time the converted private KG300 of President Stavos was able to land near the castle and dock at the town of Hericos. Although the public is denied access, a few select individuals, including Mister Jacob Roiters, were allowed access into the Tomb of Basileus Bacchios, the first true King of Ancient Serdizica.

Unfortunately yesterday was mired by poor weather, so large parts of the outer portions of the tour had to be removed. Yet from what photographers could ascertain, the Neferheimers seemed to enjoy the historical walk through Sofrezia’s turbulent religious past, visiting such sites as the preserved Temple of the Ucericlysian Pantheon and one of the earliest examples of Islamic influence on Grand Athantos, the Ashan Pasla Mosque.

Thankfully, the covered Megali Agora remained dry enough for the visitors to sample classic Sofrezian dishes based around the locally caught Brazon Pike and Marmor Trout, and were even treated to a street performance of fire dancers who, through interpretive dance, portrayed the prophetic story of the God ‘Syros’, and his eventually eternal fall from the sky.

Finally, the last hours of the day came and the guests returned to the grounds of the Paláti ton Proédron to enjoy a private viewing of a military circus performing ‘I Katastrofí tou Noemvríou’ in the Fontánika Aíthousa before retiring for the night for their early flight back home this morning.

Today, hands were shook, and a few final words of gratitude were shared between President Stavos and Mister Roiters before the Neferheim group departed. Both parties were left seemingly very satisfied with the largely successful visit. Mister Roiters even suggested that the next visit would almost certainly include a personal appearance of the Neferheim Eternal President himself, Ander Starget and that plans would have to be made for a Sofrezian delegation to visit Neferheim in the future.

This visit marks the beginning of a new Sofrezia on the world stage, hopefully indicating to her neighbours that our arms are open and we are ready for negotiations from other nations so that all of us may benefit and reap the rewards of a unified and dedicated Anteria.
