Yangtian: Emperor dies at 63

The Empire of Yangtian is an incredibly diverse country. Originally separated between three distinct entities. the country is made up of the southern region bordering khemmi and Ereska which is very mountainous and populated by a mountain people called the Druk people. The Druk are devout buddhists who ruled a kingdom of their own in the mountains. Further to the north is the central region which is made up of plains and forests. This area was home to the Han people which ruled the land as an empire and formed a union with the Druk kingdom in 1502. They practice a mix of buddhism and folk religion ever since they united with the druk through royal marriage. Their civilisation introduced buddha to their pantheon and built the great wall of Yangtian to protect themselves against the northern barbarians called the mengshu people. They were nomadic people who often raided the han empire. Their land is made up of steppes and grassland and they are famed horse riders who practice tengri. In 1600 the emperor conquered the mengshu lands which were rich in coal and minerals as well as natural gas and incorporated it into Yangtian. Through the years both the Druk and han mixed and assimilated into each other forming a unified culture and language called Yangtianese. Meanwhile the Mengshu Remained isolated and resented imperial rule. The suceeding emperors always refused to recognize tengri as a god in their pantheon and as such, alienated the mengshu. To this day the mengshus are mistreated with the current emperor openly banning their religion and forcing them to assimilate and in doing so commited numerous human rights abuses condemned by the international community. There was little done against it however as Yangtian is a major exporter of coal, Iron and natural gas. Due to this, the country remained fairly self suficiant and started to improve economically after reforms were done by emperor Huizen in the early 1900's giving the country a 240 bilion GDP in the modern era. Mengshu separatists are conducting a small scale insurgency in the northern provinces which is harshly repressed by the country's military which is made up of 100 000 men and is relatively small compared to the country's 80 milion people. GDP per capita is only 3000 in Yangtian with most people living in the cities being richer then those in rural areas which form a majority of the population. Most Mengshus live in rural communities in the north of the country while the central plains are mostly urbanized and is were the capital, Yangzhou, is located

It is in this tense geopolitical context that the secretive empire, which extensively controls its media and is ruled by an absolute monarch, announced that its emperor, who had ruled the country for 40 years, had died of a stroke. The government has announced that his daughter would suceed him as the Yangxi empress, despite concerns by conservative elements in the government. The young empress is pretty liberal and wishes to open up the country which made her many enemies in the government it remains to be seen what the future will bring...

The Divine Queen Ena Kalinka and the regent Tara Kalinka both announced their support to the Plagyor Republics.
The stockpiled fighters that are almost completed in retrofitting with modern radars are scheduled to be shipped to the Plagyor Republic in 4 days.
Total of 41 Mak 3s and 22 Vak 6s will be shipped to them.
The Royal Airforce justifies this expensive manouver with the duty to protect the Ateenian people and people related to them, all around the world.
The Kingdom expects this to grant the plagyor republics, complete airsuperiority.

Operation Equites Desertum | Operation Desert Cavalry

The first major offensive of the War has come, with the Bakyern-funded Publica Ratio Intelligenti launching a large, sweeping assault into the deserts south of the South Canal, with the intent to capture the vital canal city of Aquadulum. While most of their army is conscripts equipped with Bak supplies, the small portion of elite shock infantry they possess has frightened many of the Loyalist troops in the area into surrender or retreat. Both sides have only reported a few thousand casualties so far, though this number is expected to rise as the offensive continues. In a relatively unsurprising turn of events, as well, Loyalist reports have come in that Bak volunteer platoons have been partaking in this offensive alongside the PRI. The Vescarian government has denounced Bakyern as "helping traitors to the establishment," though no action was taken outside of this denunciation.

Shoutout to Bakyern 2 for agreeing to participate in this offensive.

Katarina Sopron Assumes Control of a United Plagyor Army?!

Only a few days ago, General Katarina Sopron was elected narrowly by the four Plagyor republics as the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of a united Plagyor army. Having been a loyalist before the secession, let alone a woman, the conservative factions in the Republics staunchly opposed elevating her to the status of Supreme Commander-in-Chief. Nevertheless, the liberal majority overall within the Republics as of current has made it's choice, and now the four Plagyor states fight under a single high command. "Political unification is our next step," says Istvan Kaposvár, the leader of the Plagyor Free Party in the Pecelvarad Republic. "We want our race to fight united against it's oppressors. There can be no other option: we unite and fight together, or our rivalries become our downfall."

With the amount of supplies the Republics are recieving from Rvandonia and Ateenia, many analysts predict that a Plagyor victory in the Civil War is likely, albeit the cost in blood for such a victory would be high.

Yangxi Empress announces end of hundreds of years of diplomatic isolation

It was a shock to every Yangtianese when the Yangxi empress announced over state radio and TV that the country would today end hundreds of years of diplomatic isolation. So far, the country had only used its vast ressources to trade for things that they were not able to produce themselves and to keep the economy sustainable. It was extremely hard to leave the country without obtaining permission and the only news the country had from the outside world were controled by the government. In her speech, The empress stated that isolation couldnt continue and that it was time for change. She then state that she was open to welcome investors into the country and that this was the start of a new era for Yangtian. This was met with mixed reactions as some celebrated. Protests were also reported but were dealt with by the police.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Lila was watching the engineers apply the paint to their new planes with curious eyes. A shining white coat with fractal gray traced around the gunmetal. It was...

She couldn't put a word on it.

Angelic?

Yeah, that sounds good.

The crews were finishing the decals, working tirelessly to get the emblem exactly right.

Her jet was already done, the searing flames of the dragon burning bright against the white airframe. The numbers were done.

ALAC DH
001-1

The thick, orange number "1" was inked on at the base of the insignia.

Novak 1.

Sign of the squadron leader.

"--I got'chu, man. We won't let you down..."

Her own words resonated in her head as she pressed a sigh towards the concrete floor.

"Got a long fight ahead, don't we...?"

The crews had placed the last paint marks on the planes when the intercom blared in its familiar chime. One she hadn't heard in months, and yet, it felt like yesterday.

"Novak Squadron to 2-26A for assignment briefing. Novak, 2-26A for briefing."

"Here we go.."

She stood up and left the ground crews to their duties.

When she reached the hallway, it was... lethally quiet.

Haunting.

A pair of eyes peeped out from one of the corners nearby.

It wasn't Tim...

There was only one other pair of eyes that looked like that.

That spark was...

"Cedric...?"

"Lila!?"

Her former mentor emerged from the shadow, analyzing her face with a squint so hard it could kill someone.

The tears in her eyes were swift and merciless.

"...By the Six--"

The two locked in a tight embrace as they saw their faces again.

"W-What are you doing here? I... I thought we lost you over Daggerfall..."

"Heh, well... you did."

She finally let go to let him get some distance.

He brushed some lint off his new flight suit.

"Looks like you missed me."

She wiped her eyes off with her sleeve.

"I... well..." Her eyes fixed on the ground. "I did."

There was a voice behind her.

"Martel?"

Cedric recognized the call.

"Tim Gostenberg. I should have figured you would be alive."

Cedric gave him a solid pat on the shoulder as Tim threw a brief salute at his former squadron's second-in-command.

"Really nice to see you again. How are you, Major?"

"Doin' good, man. Better than I was, anyway."

"What happened to you? You know... after?"

"I was about to ask you the same d*mn thing. Long story. And..."

He lowered his voice.

"I should have figured you'd break up with the Coalition, but... what happened? Why are you here?"

She looked at the floor as she tried to recall the last four months or so.

He tipped his head. "What about Edward?"

She spat in the corner at the name.

"We had a... falling out. Tim knows what I mean."

Tim scoffed. "--If you wanna call it that, sure."

Cedric squinted at her uncertainly and then merely sighed.

"Long story?"

"Yeah. I'd rather not keep the briefing waiting."

"Alright, after you then."

His final words hit her like a bullet as the realization began to settle.

"Wait... you're flying with us?"

Cedric coyly tipped his head.

"Of course. Surprised I'm on your wing again?"

A smile broke out on her face as they entered the room.

"--Pleasantly, yeah."

They took their seats as Marcus turned from the front of the room.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZbWHIPMjqM
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Right on time, guys. I'll make this snappy."

The projector turned on, flickering with a burning dragon emblem before fading to the battle map.

"The battle in Directus has changed the course of the war. The Coalition's been sent back reeling, and their forces are considerably weakened, based on PAF reports. Coalition's falling back hard on all sides."

"They can't keep running away, can they?"

"They can't, and they know it. Despite the stalemate, our best intel suggests that they're consolidating at the fortress on top of Mount Wrathcaster. However, we have a window to seal off their retreat."

The map zoomed in.

"The Coalition's been scorched-earthing everything in sight on their way down south from Skyden. They want nothing of value for any of the western countries to pick over."

The anger bubbled in Lila's gut.

"Those sick f*ckers.."

"--My thoughts exactly. But we can stop them..."

Marcus slapped a finger across the map on a single spot.

"--The fortress at Andraste. The centerpiece of their border line. If that breaks, we have a straight shot to Ancelot. With its capture, the Coalition would be split in half, and the northern half of the Coalition would collapse due to the lack of support."

"The Coalition surrendering? Respectfully, sir, that sounds like hard conjecture--"

"--Well, it is. I'm praying to the Six with every fiber of my being that the sane ones can see reason and know to give up. Even if they don't, splitting the Coalition in half would permanently seal their fate."

"Alright. What do you want us to do?"

"ALA detachments have been mobilizing in Mediapolis and will be splitting in two to deal with the Blue Coats and the Coalition simultaneously. One of these armies is going to assault Andraste directly. I want you guys up above to support the attack."

"Just... the three of us?"

"I've called out to the PAF. They're said they'll have two squadrons to support us."

"How many planes?"

"Two dozen, and then there's you three."

Tim let out a muffled whistle from the side.

"Not bad. Not bad at all."

"Then again, you guys are the better pilots. Heh, if there was any doubt."

"Aww, how sweet."

Marcus cleared his throat to digress.

"--Alright. Crews are loading up your planes right now. PAF said their planes will meet you en route. ALA is waiting for your call."

"Good sh*t. Let's get it done."

"--I trust you all to come back safe."

"Oh, we will. Count on it."

"Dismissed."

The three of them stood up, flight helmets in hand, and promptly left the room.

"Showtime, fellas."

As she opened the door to the hangar, the sight struck her.

Their planes all in a line, shining in their blissful, angelic white, with their new emblems in menacing black and red. The crews were saluting them as they came in.

She'd never felt so good seeing the dragon emblem again.

Cedric patted her on the shoulder.

"So, Novak 1."

She smiled. "Yeah?"

There was a proud grin on his face. A pilot he'd mentored was in command of a squadron of aces.

"You ready?"

Her nod was confident as ever as she slid the flight helmet on once again in familiar rhythm.

"You bet'cher *ss, I'm ready."

"--D*mn right."

They broke off to their respective planes.

As she sat down, the memories flooded back.

The familiar view of the MXA-16 cockpit.

The emotions running through her as she went on sortie.

All the buttons and switches.

She turned the switch at the side, the pistons purring gently as the canopy closed over her.

"Lila. This workin'?"

She tweaked the radio console.

"Novak 1, reporting in. Sound off."

There was a pause as she gave the salute down to the ground crews as they backed away from the planes.

"Novak 2. All systems operational, I'm set."

"Novak 3. Everything's checked out, ready to rock."

"Good check. Novaks, spool 'em up."

The roar of the turbines shrieking to life was of awe-inspiring power as the hangar tremored with the energy.

"After me. Let's do this."

"Followin' you."

The white-gray planes rumbled out onto the tarmac.

"Tower, this is Novak 1."

"--Reading you loud and clear, Novak."

"We're all set. Requesting takeoff clearance."

Pause.

"Copy that. Taxi down to 436 and standby."

"Affirmative."

The three planes coasted down the taxiway as the bright morning sun kissed their aluminum skins.

Her first flight for a new cause.

A new purpose.

"Novak Flight, this is the Tower. You have clearance granted on 436."

"Roger that. We're outta here."

"Good luck, Novaks. Make us proud."

She could feel the eyes watching as she faced down the runway, looking north.

For their future.

She slammed the throttle lever forward, searing afterburners burning bright as the jet screamed down the runway.

The ground crews were all outside their posts.

And they were saluting them as they went.

The plane coasted up with a light pull on the stick.

"Forming up on you, Lila."

"Yup."

They formed an echelon behind her as they adjusted northwest.

Her thoughts were a mess, but there was only one that called out to her. A call of her determination and quest for redemption.

Time to make things right.

Yangtianese government announces full support for the PRI

Amid the situation in Vescarium the Yangtianese government has anounced that it would send weapons to the PRI. This is the first time the country gets involved in international conflicts. The government was divided between which faction to support with the most nationalistic officials wishing to back the OTA and more moderate officials wishing to back the PRI. The empress, who had studdied economics at University and was a great admirer of the works of Oscar Wenel made the final decision to back the PRI. Although she was a monarchist and an authoritarian She was more liberal then her father and disliked the OTA's Genocidal views. the following equipment will be sent to the PRI:

Gassasinia deploys to Vescarium
The Gassasinian Parliament has authorised the deployment of troops and helicopters of the 9th Brigade of the 3rd Mechanised Infantry Division, and the 881 Squadron of the Army Aviation Corps to support the Initiative for Global Peace operation in Vescarium.

The boots on the ground in Vescarium are to be supported by UTR XII infantry fighting vehicles and BH-777 attack helicopters. The purpose of Gassasinian forces in Vescarium will be to provide security for non-combatant humanitarian aid workers, and to protect non-combatants from violence.

Opposing Labour MP Joseph al-Rihani criticised the government, commenting that "We are committing troops across the world to conflicts that /do not/ and /should not/ involve Gassasinia. The brave men and women of the Royal Gassasinian Army should not have to risk their lives wasting time across the world. What's happening in Vescarium is terrible but ultimately we are only a tiny country, with little influence on international affairs and we cannot even hope to significantly influence the outcome of this conflict."

The resolution to deploy peacekeepers to Vescarium passed through Parliament with a vote of 110 to 40, with most dissenting voters coming from the hard-left of the Labour Party, along with the Conservative Party's isolationist tendency.

Liberal Party prime minister Ahmed al-Rashid responded to criticisms from Joseph al-Rihani MP, explaining that "During the difficult times of the seventies, hundreds of foreigners came from across the world to help bring peace to our country. Now that Gassasinia is in the position of a developed, stable nation, I do believe that it is our duty to pay back where possible by contributing to international peacekeeping efforts, to help protect the defenceless so that one day they may rebuild their country, just as we have rebuilt from the ruins of our own civil war."
