What's better than a novelty pencil? I posit, nothing. Bonus points if the eraser does little more than smear the pencil-markings across the page.

Here, solid graphite surrounded by wood. You can keep it. We have more somewhere.

You have some without the wood? It's a pain to remove it.

Looks like around the beginning of the month. He'll probably be back. NS suffers something of a summer slump, and this region perhaps more than most (given the theme).

Nice to see you revive and return though :)

Hmm.
*Thinks*
One moment.
*He crosses over to the fireplace, puts his arm into a large stocking, and fumbles around for a short while*
Ah! Here!
*He returns, proudly holding a Christmas pudding-shaped pencil sharpener*
It won't get the wood off all at once, but it'll get there eventually.

The only problem is that it will reduce all the graphite to powder and the trying to separate the would dust from the graphite would be a pain.

You can buy graphite paste for pinewood derby cars

Snowman wrote:You can buy graphite paste for pinewood derby cars

I'm going to have to look up both of those things!

Edit:
Just educated myself. Now I'm feeling the urge to create a pinewood derby car!

How would you like to reach into your Christmas stocking and get graphite paste all over you and everything else. No thank you.

You'd not be alone. The great majority are built by the kid's father's anyways.

So be good for goodness sake!

I agree, that seems like a lot of fun. I suppose, had I ever advanced past the rank of "cub scout," I may have been introduced to the concept of the pinewood derby, but this is my first time hearing the phrase.

In general, I have a strong attraction to the concept of whittling, though I've yet to actually teach myself how. But I look forward to spending much of my later years doing precisely that.

I proudly made mine all by myself. I didn't know everyone used graphite but thankfully a friend's dad let me use some when I showed up to the meet & got confused. Still got last place even with graphite.

I was a cub scout for one year, third grade. Was already involved in 4H & later FFA, didn't need another organization. Also my troop was crappy & I didn't really like it. Or the whole system of badges. Or anything about it. Only ever earned two badges my one year.

I was a "Brownie" for a couple months, but gave that up. It was so boring.

My girls were lucky. They had a rogue Brown Owl who did exactly as she pleased, much to the despair of the district commissioner. One evening was devoted to having makeovers, whilst wearing pyjamas and eating chocolate. Another time, they drove 50 miles to a safari park. I suspect Brown Owl had just made a list of everything she had wanted to do as a kid, and made damned sure that everyone in the pack got the experience! A wonderful woman.

They were lucky indeed. We did much of nothing, hence my departure.

Sounds like you should start your own troupe of scouts, filling it with all of the things you wish yours had included, such as St Nick's "Brown Owl" he mentioned. You'll even get to choose a fun name for your troupe: "Sky Patrol"? "The Little Stars"? "Radiant Riders"?

It would be fun if I could and had the time. With work, family, and school, I'm not left with much time for any other commitments.

A bit warm, I must say. I've been slowly melting down the drain for days now. Thank goodness this heat wave is beginning to alleviate today.

Bought a great big heavy duty metal fan this season, though, and it's been a life-saver. Now I can't help wondering why I ever settled for one of those plastic fans you can buy at department stores...

I can’t stand the heat give me the Scottish Highlands in autumn any day of the week, I have a tower fan in my bedroom that I use every night to keep my face cool (my mum is the same)

A fine choice. An E.U., €uro country.
Tough language though.
I'd choose Sweden, for currency reasons. For 1,97 €uros you get 20 Swedish krona.

I'd personally go Iceland. It would be nice to keep the feel of still being on an island.
