The finish of the desk is patchy at best and there are a number of small cracks and holes in the wood filled with sand. Upon searching the desk the team finds all of the drawers are empty but they do find that one of the drawers has a lock and is currently locked.

How does the team open the drawer?

OOC: Sorry for the delay.
IC: Assuming the lock is jammed up with sand it is decided to simply use a knife to pry open the locked drawer.

IC: Inside the drawer the team finds a map of region. Not only does it provide a detailed map of the region but it also highlights the routes of the desert nomads. This will surely cut a massive amount of time off the team's journey.

Thank you all for supporting me as Communications Minister. I look forward to keeping polls active and engaging. Let me know if there are any questions you'd liked asked as well.

IC: The team leaves the tent and, using the new found maps, continue on their mission.

IC: Just as the team leaves the half-buried tent the desiccated corpse at the far side of the tent burst open with dozens of scorpions. It highlights the team's wise choice to search the desk and leave the corpse in peace.

IC: After traveling across the desert for a few days the group stumbles upon a caravan of camels traveling across the desert.

Does the team approach the caravan?

Does the team approach the caravan?

The leader decides to investigate, they lost enough time as it is and the other team could be there by now, thus they will approach see what they have...possibly trade and leave

IC: As the team approaches a shout is heard and with it the caravan comes to a halt. A member of the caravan begins to yell something at them, the team is still some distance away, in a strange tongue.

"Tahiat zumalayiy almusafirina! Tawaquf lifitrata! Mukhayam maeana! Shurb watanawal altaeam waltijarat!"

As he does this the rest of the caravan begins to reform itself from a line marching across the desert to a circle formation centered around some sort of wagon or cart.

“Das familīed dīe?” (Does that sound familiar to you?) The leader says to his interpreter, Incase something like this happened “nīen, sīe nōled lingü nī tungü lingü” (no, I recognize the language but can’t speak it) the leader decides to investigate the center of the crowd if they let him

IC: The man from the caravan that has been communicating with the team, after massing around with something in the back of his wagon comes out holding a jug of some sort in one hand and waving the team to approach. He hollers something else to the team; "Tati! yashriba! Laqad sharabna!"

The other people of the caravan begin setting up their cookware and getting a fire going. It is evident that they are offering food, drink, and wares perhaps. As part of the team's training they were warned to be extremely cautious around the locals, especially the desert nomads as they are a mix of lawless nomads and cutthroat thieves.

The team following closely behind sits near the group and the interpreter attempts to find someone who speaks crystallian or a language he can understand

IC: The other members of the caravan give a short list of reactions when the interpreter tries to communicate with them. "Atarikni wahadiy!" in an annoyed tone clearly signaling they wish to be left alone. "Turid 'an tashtari?" offering some sort of trinkets clearly trying to sell something. "Tahadath maeah." waving the interpreter back towards the man who has been the only one to talk to the team. The man who has been communicating with the team since the two groups found each other.

The man who must be the leader of this caravan who has been the only person talking to the team since the two groups met takes a large drink from the container he pulled out before which upon getting closer is clearly a large rhino horn which has been turned into a large drinking horn with intricate carvings in the ivory and is encrusted with gold, silver, and jewels. After taking a large drink himself he thrusts it out to the leader of the team and then waves his other and in a circular motion gesturing that he is offering drinks to the whole team.

The man then begins to speak in a very broken version of Common. "You... Common speak yes? Eeehhh... You drink friends." He motions to his mouth, miming like he is eating, and then gestures over towards the campfire which is being built; "Eat."

They follow his instructions still a bit cautious, but the interpreter asks a simple question “you are a caravan of sorts correct? Do you know the way to (objective)?”

OOC: The objective of the team is to reach an oasis called Wahat Alsafar. Just FYI.

IC: Practically ignoring the question the caravan leader walks over to the campfire.

"Eat, drink. We camp together. Is safer that way. Then we trade and talk business. Do not worry to be sleepings here. All us have knife under pillow," He speaks aloud to his fellow caravaneers, "Raqibuhum ean kathbin. 'Iidha hawaluu 'aya shay' qtalahum." He then takes a place by the fire with his comrades.

the team relaxes but not to lose too much of thier guard, they might be key to getting to the oasis, not only that but it was pure luck they ran into them, wasting this would be foolish, as so they do just what the leader says

Volohk wrote:IC: The team leaves the tent and, using the new found maps, continue on their mission.

IC: Using the map they found the team is able to take a few shortcuts to take days off their journey and come upon an oasis of sorts. Before the team is what appears to be a dried up old oasis. However rather than being deserted there is what appears to be caravan camped here currently.

IC: After the sun sets the group shares food, drink, and stories around the fire.

"So it is Wahat Alsafar which you seek fellow travelers? Well you are having much luck because it just so happens that I know where it is my friends. I can disclose its location to you...for a price."

IC: Oh no no no friends. That is not how this works. What do you have to offer. You either have enough to pay or you do not. I will determine if your offering is substantial enough to get the information you seek.

IC: The nomad takes the stone and pulls out a jeweler's loop and examines the stone.

"Ah. Someone has stolen the gem from the beast beneath the sands. I have seen many a fool fall prey to its trap from their greed. I can assume that you fell victim to it as well."

He examines the gem further.

"You know that you are not the first to fall prey to such a trap. There are a few who have managed to pry the gem from it's nest and yet there is a mystery as to how the stone returns to its home. Some say it is a curse that drives those who take the stone to return it."

He puts away the loop and pockets the gem.

"I am not so superstitious. In fact I know the truth to the mystery. You see it is I who return the stone. Well one of my underlings by my orders. Now to give you the answers you seek.

It is Wahat Alsafar which you seek, yes? Well you are in luck my friend because you found it. Wahat Alsafar translate to the common tongue as The Traveling Oasis. This caravan is it. Well part of it. And I am known as the Sultan of the Sands. I apologize for the secrecy and the trouble my friend but I had to be sure I would meet the right people or else I could lose my head.

Now that you know where you are. How may the Sultan of the Sands help you?"

“If we are where we were meant to be then perfect, we currently wait for another group to meet us...they are our allies other than that I will be sure to ask if we need your assistance” he lightly bows “Thank you”
Ooc: i think I’m supposed to wait for the other team if I’m honest I forgot

IC: The team leader signals two of his team to begin flanking left and right to secure a perimeter while the team cautiously moves in to investigate the inhabitants of this dead oasis.

OCC: Greetings my fellow brethren! The great nation of Sovern has returned!

I apologize for my brief absence, something personal has directed by attention away from NationStates, but with everything finally aligned, I have fully returned to Barbaria!
