Welcome everyone who has arrived newly to the region, or is returning after an absence.

We are currently in the process of trying to draft a regional update to send out to other regions. If you are interested in contributing, please view the forum thread here: https://theidu.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2209

You can also TG me or message me on Discord if you have any questions about this.

If you wish to contribute an article, please send it to me by the 30th July 2020.

I had some advice I'd like to give to everyone here in the region involved in roleplay/interested in getting involved in roleplay:

I can't emphasize enough that the single most important thing to become better at roleplay is to keep up with world news. In particular, keep up with the world news that isn't being covered by US-based news organizations.

Reading the news is the best way to get with inspiration for your roleplay, and it'll also give you exposure to the styles of journalistic writing you can use in your own roleplay. Following exclusively American/Western European politics won't give you the kinds of interesting articles that you can come up with from following, say, influence scandals in India, the war in Libya, smuggling in Iran, infrastructure development in Vietnam, pro-democracy street protests in Malawi, or an alleged coup in Bolivia.

It's easy to come up with a roleplay storyline based on, say, the Vietnam War. But you'll get far more interesting and distinctive roleplay if you base that same war off of, say, the Zimbabwean War of Independence, the Iran-Iraq War, or the First Indo-Pakistani War. All of these conflicts have really interesting twists and distinctive aspects that will make your RP that much more interesting.

If you don't have the budget or the library access to read The Economist, the New Yorker, etc, then I highly recommend downloading the news apps for the Guardian and Al Jazeera, both of which will give you high-quality reporting on international issues for free. Once again, keeping up with world news, and delving deeply into world history beyond the Euro-American canon, will help you create distinctive, creative roleplay that will be a step beyond the rest.

Grosseschnauzer

I have found that the online feeds for Apple News and CNN (which has tabs for every major world region) provide adequate global news coverage. The BBC website did in the past, but I suspect their budget cuts impacted that.

You beat me to it! That’s right, folks, an exciting election is taking place as we speak. It’s been a pleasure to serve as your IDUSA Speaker this past year.

Speaking of that, after the IDUSA Speaker transition of power is complete at the end of the month, I think you should all take a look at Eiria’s proposed bill. It’s a solid piece of potential legislation that isn’t getting the attention it deserves. My only real regret as Speaker was not being able to get the bill to vote before election season rolled around.

Hello all,

I'm currently running for the position of IDUSA Speaker. As Speaker of our regional legislature, the IDU States' Assembly, my responsibilities would include managing membership of the IDUSA, offering suggestions on proposed legislation, administering the biannual Delegate election, and bringing legislation to vote. I've held various regional officer positions in the IDU, including serving as Delegate for two years. As IDUSA Speaker, my priorities would include working with Xiomera to promote greater regional involvement in the IDUSA, perfecting and passing Eiria's Judicial Foundation Act, and incorporating more of our new regional members into the IDUSA so that new members of the region have a role in voting for the Delegate and voting on legislation. Please let me know if you have any questions about my candidacy.

If you're a current IDUSA member, please vote here! https://theidu.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2212

Err, "toke a milk glass"?

thanks for spotting that error.

Fellow IDU nations,

I'm running for the position of IDUSA Speaker.
Over the past few years of the IDUSA, I've noticed that it tends to be a bit inactive role - as if it was sitting idly on the background of the region. Therefore, my main focus as Speaker would be towards encouraging more participation on the IDUSA - especially by the newer nations in our region. The States Assembly is a very important part of our region, therefore most of our region's active members should be encouraged to actively participate on voting and proposing legislation.
Other areas I would like to focus on include providing assistance to creation of new legislation such as Eiria's Judicial Foundation Act, and the establishment of an IC role for the IDUSA. If you have any other concerns, feel free to telegram me and I'll be happy to respond.
Good luck to comrade Laeral on the election! Whatever the result may be - I'm optimistic about the future of the region.

Thanks, not sure how long I'll be around this time. Last time I logged in was somewhere around 2010, I think.

Good to see you again!

Legionas wrote:As the heavens opened today in Aunistria, and torrential rain lashed below, Gnejs has managed to secure the IDUFC Trophy in a hard fought victory vs Assamland. This means that the Gnejsians have held the title for two consecutive iterations of the IDUFC, and that is extremely impressive. The Gnejsians are now undoubtedly the most dominant IDU Football Nation.

The Kingdom of Legionas, on behalf of every other member of the International Democratic Union, wishes to extend a hand to the Gnejsians in good faith for a hard fought campaign.

Wow, I can’t believe we did it again! The Dandelions always strike twice, it seems. Thank you for a superb tournament, Legionas.

Congratulations once more! I hope the Lauchenoirian refugee who moved to Gnejs in 2018 is pleased once more.

Hello everyone!

I plan to interview a regional officer for the upcoming issue of our update newsletter. Because we pride ourselves on being democratic, I made a poll to find out whom IDU residents would like to learn more about. I felt that Xiomera should be included even though delegates are technically not officers. The other possible choices are Eiria, Lauchenoiria, Sanctaria, Laeral, Legionas, Libertas Omnium Maximus, and Gardavasque. Here is the poll: http://www.quiz-maker.com/Q6JN261Q

Thank you and have a great day!

Laeral, Legionas, and Gonhog

As a quick reminder, you have only a few hours left to cast your vote for 2020/2021 IDUSA Speaker if you have not done so already. Voting will close at 12:00 AM.

Unfortunately, for some strange reason, I am unable to view the results of that poll. Please vote in the one below instead. I apologize for the inconvenience!

Since Trive 38 is now the IDUSA Speaker (congrats!) I added him to the poll, but I left Libertas Omnium Maximus in because he could speak about his recent service. A nice aspect of this new poll site is that it allows each user to vote for multiple people. Feel free to choose as many members as you would like: https://strawpoll.com/oxofy3ygh

The poll will close in about 24 hours, because I'm trying to do the interview before the end of the month.
