The kudian front

The following was recorded from the Kudian Liberal News Program earlier today at 11:17

The government of the Empire of Kudia would like to give a full response on why it has been so quiet in the past few months. To put it bluntly, we lost all connection after a massive blackout in Hyperion Central, and a subsequent blackout in most major power grids in the nation. Reasons for which haven't been found as of recently, but it is speculated that a major snowstorm struck the mountains in which many of them are, and crippled them. It has taken us several months to fully power back on. But... we're back now. Some things have happened in the time we were cut off, but I guess it can be summarized down to... nationalists. A massive Kudian Nationalist uprising has begun in Hyperion earlier today, and it has NOT been getting any colder down there, and by that... I mean they've started rioting. Yup, you better grab your heavy umbrellas lined with type-67 reactive armor, because it is a bomb showcase down 'ere! (A loud crash can be heard in the background, along with panicked screams of terror as several news reporters run into the room, bursting into flame. Gunshots can be heard along with helicopters as it seems the police have turned and run.) *Sigh* I guess I should go get a broom ASAP. Long live Kudia, and- (The screams fly up the stairs as the sounds of a door flying open is soon replaced with shouts of "ANARCHY!") Hello dear enthusiastic rioter, what do you have to say about the situation as of currently?

The recording is cut off as a gunshot, followed by static go on for the next 30 seconds.

Chapter One: The Shot Heard Around the World

Despite a taxing week, the President felt nothing but positive energy as he finished up his town hall event in Jamestown. Despite a shuttle emergency and an uphill battle on the criminal justice bill, he felt successful, with an added bonus that the newest polling data said he went up five more points since last week.

Williams stood up to the cheering crowd and began the long walk to his caravan of vehicles. This was only his third town hall since becoming President, but he truly liked doing them. Meeting and talking with the people. It was also set to be a quiet night, with nothing major waiting for him at the office, it was finally a chance to catch up on the World Series.

Tom, the President's speech writer walked beside him. You could now hear the crowd awaiting outside. The cheers, the excitement.

"I think I outdid myself on that speech" said Tom with a slight smile.

"You know Tom, I think in this case, the signer outdistanced the song writer" the President shot back.

They both had a small laugh before being interrupted by the head of the Presidential Security, Ron Butterfield.

"Sir, do you want to walk the rope line or go straight to the cars?" Ron asked.

"You know me, I can never miss the chance to say hello to a crowd."

The President walked over to the screaming people holding up "We Love Williams" signs and holding out various books and papers for an autograph.

It was very hard to hear over the crowd, but the energy seemed to change, like the wind before a storm suddenly dying.

Someone screamed. "Shooter!"

Suddenly shots began to rain from everywhere. Williams was unable to move, but yet he felt his body being pulled. Within seconds he was shoved into his limo as Ron Butterfield jumped on top of him.

You could hear them, bang, bang, bang.

-----

Presidential Motorcade: 4 minutes after the attack.

Williams was trying to catch his breath, but honestly it felt like he just sprinted through a 3k race. His heart was beating so loud, that he almost didn't notice the loud sirens of the six police cars surrounding his limo as they sped towards the Palace at what felt like one-hundred miles per hour.

"Is.... anybody dead.... back there?" asked the President, in between gasps.

"We don't, I'm sorry sir.... we don't know" Ron tried to say, but he was focused on keeping his tie wrapped around his hand.

"What happened to your hand?!"

"I got hit", said Ron trying to move his fingers.

"Oh no, Cooper!" shouted the President to his driver, "Cooper we gotta get to the hospital!"

"We have to get to the Pa.."

"No, let's go, now, to the hospital"

"Sir, I have to put you in the Palace. This isn't something we discuss", said Ron forcefully.

"This is ridiculous. We have people injured, you're losing....... blood.... you're" the President's speech was slurring.

"Sir? Sir? Are you alright?"

Suddenly the President tasted something in his mouth, he brought up his hand to wipe it away before brining it back, only to see a small amount of blood. Ron quickly jumped up and began to manhandle his boss, as he looked for a wound. After just a few short seconds he found what he was hoping not to find. A whole, about the size of a nickle in the right hand side of the President of AusValia.

"Shi**, Ardner Hospital! Now! Go, go, go!" Shouted Ron as the limo jerked to the right, speeding off to the hospital.

------

Ground Zero: 15 minutes after the attack

It was almost like the scene of a horror movie. People screaming and running. People on their phones, cameras, light flashes, police officers, EMT's, everywhere.

Presidential Security Officer Leslie Sherman was now in charge. Ron was with the President and she was the one who saw the shooters.

Five black SUV's pull from around the corner, like clockwork, dozens of Federal Police agents, with their windbreakers on, climbed out of the car, following a small, balding man.

The man walked up to Leslie,

"What is the situation report officer?"

"Two shooters from the second story of that building", Leslie pointed to a small office building across the street. "We got them both. But there was a signal man, on the ground, in the crowd."

"There was a third suspect? What did he look like?"

"25 years, Caucasian male, little over five foot."

The man now looked concern. He turned to his army of agents.

"Fix a perimeter and shut down the airports! I want the Coast Guard and Jamestown police on alert. Drop a net over the city now!"

The USNE would like to support AusValia in their efforts to take down these assasins. These three shot into a crowd of people filled with families and friends, all just to take down the new President. The Electirca International Investigation Agency (EINIA) would request to come into the country to help in the investigation.

Multiple Museums in Verleschdie Closed for Structural Repairs

Kjanuan officials have shut down multiple Museums in Verleschdie after inspections revealed the ancient buildings had many structural issues that endangered visitors. Many visitors and staff of the buildings had to be evacuated immediately after the inspections. The Kjanuan Government has started repairs, and expects them to take as long as three months before completion. The museums will be allowed to reopen in four months, but it is unknown wether or not the tourism industry will take a substantial hit by the closings.

President Karugama Mayumi Announces Foreign Tour

In a speech before the National Council, President Karugama asked for funds to fund a week long tour to Kjanuan allies. The plan involves a day visit to AusValia to show Kjanuan support of President Williams, who recently faced an assassination attempt. The trip then will move to Coandawe where President Karugama will travel the Northern portion of the country to help ensure food security and meet with local officials to request permission for Kjanuan State companies to begin construction on housing and infrastructure. For the remaining two days the Kjanuan President will stay in the Nordic democratic republic and meet with newly elected President Eleise Birchwood. As the USSNDR has been a strong Kjanuan ally for much of recent history, this meeting with the new prime minister will likely set the mood for future relations. Funding for the trip was quickly approved and the President is set to fly to Jamestown today.

Sitting in his office at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, one of the aides on the media team was scrolling through various open access foreign media outlets. He sipped at his coffee as he clicked on an article from the Neo Neo Neo Jhanthu Post, and scrolled idly through it. He hadn't really looked at Kjanuan news much, but had heard of its positive record on offering foreign aid. He suddenly spat out his coffee, causing him to curse quietly as he wiped it off the screen of the old computer before him. The President of a major nation was going to visit Coandawe? Why had no one being talking about it?

Then the penny dropped. No one did know. He swore, and stood as swiftly as he could for a man of his stature, and strided over to one of the three office phones shared between the six workers. He made a number of calls, alerting officials of these plans.

When realising that this was the real thing, and that this would be an official diplomatic contact, as opposed to some liaison with businessmen and entrepreneurs, an emergency meeting was called to arrange plans. The only source they had did not give a clear indication of when the visit would come, and so the Kjanuans were contacted directly.

Our country was shaken by rage following the news of the assassination attempt on John Williams, President of AusValia. We would like to join Kendrickland and North Electrica and wish all the best for the President and the citizens of AusValia. This day will forever be remembered as a day of grief. Independent investigators from the Commonwealth express their will to assist their AUS colleagues in bringing justice upon the organisers of the assassination attempt.

Meanwhile the Rossendam Royal Guard Battallion is raised to high alert and security severely tightened to exclude even the slightest possibility of the events in Jamestown repeating in Arwindom.

The Department of the States, Chief Foreign Diplomat Arnold Vinnick has taken over the planning for the Kjanu delegation's State Visit to AusValia. On orders from the Vice President, despite the current situation, the event will still be held to the President's high standards.

Chapter Two: The Chaos Ensues: 18 minutes after the attack

“I was the receiver for number 42, does anyone remember his name?” asked the Vice President, John Hoynes.

“David…. David Harper, right?, answered a girl in the back.

“Yes that is right. At regionals he threw that ball liked I talked about his mother.”

The crowd responded with a brief snicker.

Vice President Hoynes was meeting with a group of football champion winners from the University of Jamestown. The group got to meet the VP and present him with a jersey featuring his former number, 18. While Hoynes secretly detested doing this small trivial stuff, he knew it was part of the job. Just seven more years he kept thinking to himself. Then he would be in the big chair.

He held up the jersey for the Palace photographer in the back.

“Coach I want to congratulate you and the entire team on a great season, and….”, Hoynes was instantly cut off as multiple armed guards entered the room.

“Sir you need to come with us”, said one of the guards.

Within seconds he was led out of the room, with the crowd standing in shock and confusion.

Adner Hospital, downtown Jamestown

Nurse Walsh was enjoying the somewhat quiet night. Other than a few non-critical patients, the emergency room was very quiet.

“Hey Walsh, Jasmin just came back, claims she still has the flu” said another nurse walking up behind her holding a blue patient file.

“Tell her it’s common to have the flu for more than a day, in the meantime this is an emergency room”, said Walsh, with a clearly annoyed look.

“Seriously?”, asked the nurse.
“No… that’s just what I wish we could tell her. Anyways she is all yours” Walsh handed the folder back.

The nurse sighed and with a resigned face, walked out to get her patient.

Walsh sat back down and rested her aching feet. Flu season was starting back up in a couple of weeks, and she wasn’t looking forward to the extremely busy schedule her and the rest of her nurses would have. For now, she just closed her eyes for a second and tried to picture a warm beach. This was quickly interrupted by the phone. She sighed and grabbed it.

“Emergency”, she said, but nobody responded.

A phone continued to ring.

She turned around to the blue phone on the back wall. A light above it was blinking, and the phone continued to ring. She quickly jumped up and ran to it,

“Emergency”, she said.

“This is agent Ron Butterfield of the Presidential Security, we are coming in.”

“Okay, is this a drill?”, she asked but didn’t need a response. Just as she finished her question, multiple armed guards bust into the room. Walsh put down the phone and grabbed the intercom phone.

“Code Blue, Code Blue in Emergency”, she said with a frantic voice.

The security forces began to place themselves at all the exits, one guard saying “Classic is ten minutes out!”

Another man walked up to the nurse station, “Do you have any critical?”, he asked.

“No”, Nurse Walsh replied.

“Get them on a bus; they’re going to another hospital”.
__________

Adner Hospital 28 minutes after the attack

President Williams arrived at the hospital, where he was quickly pulled out of the limo and placed onto a gurney. He was wheeled in by at least seven nurses and doctors; with another seven heavily armed security men surrounding them.

“Mr. President, you were shot in the abdomen, there is an entrance and exit wound. BP is 134/78, pulse 108, O2 at 98. The exit wound doesn’t look serious and we like your vital signs.”, said the doctor walking beside the massive group of people.

They were in the hospital now, going through one room into another, into another. The head of the President’s security team was following behind them, his hand still wrapped in his tie.

“This man has like a dozen broken bones in his hand if someone wants to get him an ibuprofen or something”, said the President.

Finally they had managed to reach the operation room. A nurse leaned down.

“Sir do you have any medical conditions we should know about?”, she asked.

“Well…… I’ve been shot” the President replied.

Just then, the Chief of Staff walked in. It took a second for him to get his breath, seeing the President laying in an emergency room. President William’s noticed him and motioned for him to come closer.

“Was anybody killed back there?”, he asked.

“The two shooters, the police got them through the window.”

“What about in the crowd?”

“Just some bumps and bruises. Our people are all safe as well.”

“Get the cabinet together, and the Global and National Security team. Have the Treasury Council temporarily suspend trading in the markets for tomorrow. Do you we know who the shooters were?”, asked the President.

After a second pause, his Chief of Staff finally answered, “No sir.”

“I am going to be under for a few hours.”

“It’s going to be fine. See you soon Mr. President.”

The doctor looked through his mask, “Sir it is time.”, and he was wheeled into the operation room.

Winston, the President’s Chief of Staff was exhausted, it was now after eleven at night and he had been at work since 6:30 that morning.

“Man what kind of day it has been”, he muttered to himself.

He walked into MTAC, the Multiple Threat Analysis Room, where all threats, foreign and domestic, were looked at.

A General walked up to him, “Do you know anything?”, he asked.

“He’ll be out in just about an hour. Where is the Joint Chief of Staff?”

“He is on a plane, coming back from a military conference in North Electrica. He should be back in about four hours”, responded the General.

“Do we have him by phone?”

“Yes sir.”

They all sat down at the conference table in the middle of the room, waiting for the Vice President. After a few seconds of looking over his notes, Winston turned to the Director of Homeland and Global Security who sat at the head of the table on the far side.

“Nancy are we worried about this buildup in Greshimprea?”, Winston asked.

“I’m not worried about them”, she quickly responded.

“Do you know what this means?”

“Well I wouldn’t go that far.”

Finally the doors opened as Vice President Hoynes walked into the room.

“Attention!”, shouted a military officer to the side of the room.

“As you were”, The Vice President responded as he took a seat.

“Do we have a report on any domestic activity?”, he asked.

“Yes sir, but there isn’t much. In Jamestown, some bank computers went offline for a few minutes, a few traffic light failures on the west side, and the power did go out for two minutes at the train station. Nothing unusual”, said the Director.

“These shooters, did they have anything on them? A wallet, driver license?”

“No sir.”, answered the Director of the Federal Police, “They had nothing on them, they knew they would get hit through the window.”

“If this signal guy isn’t in custody in one hour, I want to start putting some troops on the ground” responded the Vice President, with a subtle tone of annoyance.

“Sir, we have seen images of a sudden buildup of Greshimprea soldiers” said the Director of Homeland and Global Security.

“I’ve seen this, I’m not worried”, replied Winston.

“My recommendation sir, is that we put our special operations on ready alert.”

“The Vice President can’t give that order right now as the President is still alive. Besides we can have military assets on the ground in Greshimprea in 36 hours.”

Nancy looked irritated now, “We may not have 36 hours Winston.”

“The Greshimprea military can’t find their car keys in less than 36 hours” he shot back.

“Look at the pictures Mr. Vice President, I think they found them.”

There was a quietness that hung over the room, as Hoynes sat and stared. Just an hour ago he was talking football with some college students, now he was on the verge of ordering a military strike.

Finally after a long, sobering minute, he spoke.

“Nancy, we are going to follow Winston.”

Winston gave a reassuring nod to Hoynes.

“Vinnick, pass on a message to President Ostrav in Gresh” said Winston.

“Saying what sir?”

“Don’t mess with us tonight.”

(Presidential Palace Press Briefing Room: 2 hours and 30 minutes after the attack)

CJ Craig had worked with the President since the campaign, and she had worked several high profile briefings, but this was certainly the hardest. She was there when the bullets were flying. She remembered being pushed down on the ground, a window exploding over her head, but she couldn’t focus on that right now, she had a job to do.

The second she walked into the packed room of information hungry journalists, she was inundated by dozens of flashing camera lights and the sound of her name being shouted again and again by people trying to get her attention.

“CJ, when can we speak to the medical team?”, shouted a reporter.

“Benjamin Keller, the Chief of Surgery at Adner Hospital and the President’s personal physician will be made available for a debriefing in a few hours”, responded CJ.

“Has there been any discussion of the line of succession?”, asked another reporter.

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Danial, as I said, the President’s wounds are superficial, and he is expected to make a full and speedy recovery.”

“CJ, can you tell us the identity of the shooters?”, asked another reporter.

“I don’t have anything on that right now.”

“There is also speculation of a massive manhunt happening right now for a third conspirator.”, the reporter continued.

“I don’t have anything on that right now either. Look, there will be another briefing in an hour. Thank you.”

OOC: Bro your President got shot?! My condolences, I didn’t check the board for a couple of days and this happens. Hope he doesn’t suffer any more after that assassination attempt. Anyway time for the second part of the adventures of the mystery girl-who-we-don’t-know-yet-but-will-soon!

PART 2

Hours have passed since she entered the compound. It was hard enough to find as it was, tucked away in the heart of a mountain range, but a labyrinth of debris and rubble lay between her and her target. That was, if it was even here. “sigh, where is it!” She exclaimed, exasperated with the lack of progress this ‘mission’ had. Out of boredom and curiosity, she whipped out a weird gizmo from her trench coat pocket. “This is so dated, it looks ancient!” She said. She was absolutely right. It looked like a 100 year old pocket watch, mechanical and clockwork. The real question is, among the ruins, who would leave such a valuable item?

In the distance, the faint yet true sound of metal clanging rang across the room like an echo. “The Hell was...hey!!” She saw through the dark a silhouette move skittishly across the maze, and was now in hot pursuit to catch them. They both leapt and sprinted through the mess, but she knew not where they were going: but knew they’d reveal it soon. Suddenly the two approach a large shipping container, and by now our protagonist had nearly lost the figure. She however saw a flashlight on the ground. It lit up the crates interior with a faint beige glow- no where to hide.

She strolled cautiously across the floor, yet felt brave enough to not- her brain took over from her heart this time, and she continued to look for the figure. A man jumps out from behind a box, and lunges at our hero. She is startled, but expertly dodges the attack and goes in for a kick. The two square up, and soon the tussle begins- in the end she knew she’d have to fight someone today. The man manages to break free from the mess and gets a chokehold on her. She struggles and struggles, trying to get out of his grip. Breathing now too difficult, she resorts to falling onto him, and succeeds in getting them both on the floor. Slightly dazed, she reaches for his gun, and somehow manages to wrangle it off him. He gets to his feet, gun aimed at his head, huge fall behind them. He had no escape. “What are you doing here? Tell me or I’ll shoot!”

“I can’t do that”

“Try me, you’ll regret it!”

“I can’t let someone like you know about what’s here. They’d kill my family if they found out.”

“What makes you think I won’t kill you first? Answers. Now.

“I might have to keep you waiting a bit longer!”

The man charges at her, running full pelt , with eyes ready to kill. Like reflex, she shoots him in the torso. Collapsing backwards, he clutches his chest while crawling away from her.

“I didn’t want to do that. I need you alive.”

“Really?” He spits out blood.” That’s a shame. I don’t think you can keep me alive long enough for your answers.”

“What makes you say that?”

“Watch.” The man picks himself up, and walks backwards towards the edge. He lets himself plummet into the abyss, and within a moment, he was but a memory.

“Sorana! Come in!”

Her radio suddenly awakens, blurting out a familiar voice.

“HQ! I thought I lost you down here!”

“Are you ok down there?”

Sorana looks to see a flashing light in the corner. She walks towards it, and rummages around. There, out pokes a keycard from the seemingly inconspicuous pile.

“I think I’ll be just fine...”

Globalcommunity

Kendrickland wrote:Director Beca Mitchell smiled politely as she listened to the handmaids sing the praises of the Globalcommunity.

Before Beca Mitchell could mention her concerns to the handmaids, she and her delegation were ushered away in order to meet with the leader of the Globalcommunity.

"Welcome, welcome!", said Commander Warren Putnam, President of the GC.

"I hope you had a safe flight, and I trust our guides have been extremely helpful. We are excited to begin negotiations with you. Would you like anything to drink?'

The Bahramians

5 Weeks After Crash, Bahram: Crash Site Alpha

The Crew of Alpha Assembler has managed to make some progress, despite the fact that their current food supply is only avaianle for 12 months. 1 year of food, and thats with strict rationing. Things seem bleak, but the crew does their best to stay in high spirits. Currently the lowest ranking member is working on an device that could help the crew have a continued supply of food.

Nect: "Alright lets do this! We have managed to bring some earth from outside, now all we have to do is fix up this moisturizer aaaaannnd." He is seeb from the rcording pressing a button and he gets thrown back into the wall from the explosion. "I think I missed something."

Plans have been constantly being made by the team to hopefully get to the other half of the ship, their only hope to ever actually live on the planet and even get off. Jazz has been reported to stay silent, as iff thinking of something during these meeting before leaving and working, not even listening on his music.

2 Months After Crash, Bahram Crash Site Alpha

Things have gotten better to say the least. The device Newt and eventually Keyes was working on worked, and so far it seems that it is carrying out its task. Jazz and the Captian has been working on trying to possibly turn the wreck of the shuttle into a mobile transport, they have currently made no progress but they are not goving up.

Jazz: "Well maybe if we take off parts of the ship exterior, we could possibly use the materials to contruct rotars."

Captian: "All we have are hand held tools, even if we could your the only one who could do this, and considering the complexity of this-" This would continue. Keyes and Nect will continue to spend time together as they try and keep the crew alive.

3 Months After Crash, Utopia: NESDEC HQ

The Electrican Space Headquaters was currently in a buzz ad the Helios Coalition has finally started doing work, currently supplies and workers are being sent to the Feng Dynasty to help start their Space Program. And with the two seperate space operatons to the moon and also the station in orbit, the Electrican agency has been constantly working.

Although one of the main things they have had to handle was the still constant contact from the families of the presumed dead Crew Members of the ship Alpha Assembler. Despite all the evidence the families still hild out hope that their family members are alive, or atleast push for a mission to see if their bodies can be retrieved. The Commander has tried his best to explain but there is no satisfying them, so in secret he had a team work on getting to Bahram and confirming the deaths of the crew.

Head of Team: "So how has things been looking?" He says to the engineer, a Valrassrari.

Valrassrari Engineer: "Currently a rover is being constructed for the mission." The engineer points to a half built rover. "It is being constructed for long distance travel, and equipped with a device which will allow us to communicate with the crew, or just give us a recording of their dead bodies. There will aslo be a device to acess the ship computers. To gain any data on the crew and the ship."

Head of Team: "Good, keep up the work." He would leave and would go on to look over the orbital pictures of the planet, trying to think of what to do next.

5 Months After Crash, Bahram: Chrash Site Alpha

Many things has happened over the months, especially with going into the new year.

Keyes: "Okay I am recording this to have a record of this small celebration. Today is the Captians Birthday!" She does a quiet excited yell before giggling. "Thankfully Nect is letting me use his recorder to do this while he gets the Cake set up, Jazz is currently getting her to wait in the lounge." She looks away from the cameran "It's time!" Aftwr a few seconds of moving the lights turn off and the candles are lit, then they enter the lounge room, the three singing."Happy Birthday" to the Captian, which was suprised. It would end with Jazz holding the note, his true singing coice showing. The Captian wpild say thank you before the crew would go on to celebrate the Captian on her day.

Later on, a plan has been made. Jazz will be instead of making the shuttle mobile, will build multiple batteries that will be directly connected to him. Why? Becuase we will make the trel to the othwr half of the ship. If he manages to get there, he would get access to the tools and appliances they need if they are to survive the next possible years, if they do not get off the planet in that time. This would be seen a s a suicide mission, but Jazz is determined, and prepared to take on this mission.
