Welcome to Cellet(?)/Carpaya(?). Hope you enjoy your stay in our globally warmed and slushy region. Please help yourself to complimentary drinks and cookies, masks and hand sanitizer, from our hospitality suite. \_/ (::)(::)

So, is it you, Carpaya? Did Grenopia say why your posts were suppressed? They seemed pretty innocuous to me.

Same guy. Grenopia said that my messages didn't comply to their new standards, so I came back here. And if you are wondering why Carpaya still exists, I went back to that account to check a few things. They're dead for good now. Now, are you willing to play a game of hockey?

Also, how do you guys like the idea of a professional sports league?

These are interesting ideas. How are you gonna decide which team wins the match?

Not sure... RNG scoring sounds good and fair. But if we do that then we'd most likely skew some games in other teams favor due to skill mismatches, making it hard, but not impossible for bad teams to win against good ones. Does that sound good to you?

What's RNG scoring? How are you planning to rank the teams initially or do they all start out on a level footing?

I'd just use a random number generator to set scores, and all teams start out on level footing, to remove any possible bias.

Let's see if any of the others indicates interest.

Hello. Are you interested in joining the Arctic Hockey League?

For some engagement, I suggest, if you're up to it, taking lots for winners and maybe placers in a small tournament. Now, random, while indeed fair, is neither realistic nor fun. Do you have any ability with coding? You can set up your own generator and weight one team somewhat higher than all others. This is the favorite to win, and win they probably will, but betting on them pays out far less than would rooting for the underdog. Weights and odds should be public information. Maybe our currency for bets is just a public scoreboard you keep tally of with each participant starting at 100, or something.

Regale us each week or so with highlights from the games and overall tournament progress and I think you're on to something very cool!

Welcome back, by the way. :)

Newcomers? New comers?! [shakes the dust of the maps]

Hello to The arctic unity party and welcome back to Cellet. Is there any place on our regional map you'd prefer to settle down?

On that note, an update on my progress with the globe:

I've been playing with topography. Still want to get the line work tighter and maybe tweak the palette some more before this goes official.

Edit: For those obscured, fear not. This is a sample projection the likes of which might only be featured in ICE's Projection of the Month.

This is incredible. Really, really impressive.

I have no idea how to code. Is anyone else up for the challenge? Because I'm sure not. Anyways, I'll be taking up spot 1, please. Now, we need to change delegates. I haven't seen Jong Un vote since I left for my hiatus.

How about this:
https://numbergenerator.org/numberlistrandomizer#!numbers=1&lines=1&range=Firebirds,%20Firebirds,%20Firebirds,%20PolarBears&unique=true&order_matters=false&csv=&oddeven=&oddqty=0&sorted=false

In this example, Firebirds, having an ability rating of "3" for the season, are listed there three times and are that much more likely to come up. When matched with the PolarBears, rated "1" and listed once, Firebirds win about 75% of the time. 3-1. If you bet on your Firebirds and they win, this will net you 1/3 of whatever you staked. The inverse is true if you were to bet on the PolarBears and see them win: you'd get 3/1 - three times your stake!

Gambling is rather outside my personal experience. This is a suggestion for a simple way of goofing off and throwing some "money" around. It assumes that our bookmaker is working for free. It assumes no draws are possible in Arctic hockey. If you'd prefer, please, of course do your own research and flesh out the game a bit.

Note: when using this generator there mustn't be spaces in team names, hence some of the above formatting.

This a good thing to use. Now, where did you get the Polar Bears? Is this team yours, Bilabao's, or who's?

I suggest we use a random number generator to pick team ranking. This site will randomize any list.

https://www.random.org/lists/

For outcome of matches how about this: Each team announces heads or tails on the RMB. Another member of the league who is not in the match becomes the referee and does the coin toss:

https://flipacoin.fun/#!numbers=1&sides=3&length=1&sets=&last_roll_only=false&totals_only=false&start=true

Winner of the coin toss starts with the puck and gets first roll of the dice. The referee rolls the dice. Once that number is posted on the RMB with the time stamp the dice are rolled for the other team. That number is also posted with the time stamp on the RMB. Higher number wins. If there's a tie the match is considered to go into overtime and the roll is repeated.

https://www.random.org/dice/?num=2

Some one will have to volunteer to set up the schedule, including which team referees, and to keep track of all the stats. We can follow it in a dispatch. Since C/C wants to participate (there's already a team name) I think some other nation will end up with the hockey dispatch. I'd also be willing to gift a trophy card to the league winner although the only trophy cards I've been able to find have been ones for the world cup unless someone has seen another kind of trophy. Here's an example of the ones I've seen:

page=deck/card=3015499/season=2

Unfortunately, they are not easy to get because the owners have all CTE meaning their cards are seldom generated and I don't have any in my stash at the present. So if we want a trophy it may be awarded sometime after the conclusion of the league play depending on who is willing to sell me one.

If we add betting, I would be willing to award a money card to the winner of the pool for the match or maybe the total of all the matches, although I think some of you are at your card carrying capacity and I wouldn't be able to gift the card to you.

page=deck/card=2601204/season=1

If you wanted to make this complicated we could also compete against "foreign" teams and extend invites to the regions we have embassies with. But we'd have to make sure we really had our act together and at least 3 teams of our own if we decided to do that.

I suggested this idea specifically so I could do this part. So, ummmmm, yeah. That'll be mainly my job.

Random rank sounds good. I'll second that. I was imagining some kind of draft, but really that'd be far too involved.

For similar reasons, it has to be said, I have misgivings about us following these several steps and rotating duties according to a schedule. I just see many links in a chain that would all be strained by any one participant, for any reason, not doing their new regional job. Is it not far more practical and positive for Cellet, in his enthusiasm, to run the entire show and each of us engage with it in our own way? Yes, there might be issues of partiality, but I think, really, when reading about last night's game, I need to see as much proof of its fairness as I do for the accuracy of our invaluable weather report. It's all in good fun.

Cellet wrote:[W]here did you get the Polar Bears? Is this team yours, Bilabao's, or who's?

Just an example based on The Arctic's majority national animal. Not necessarily anyone's team name.

You're right. I'm overthinking this. OK, Cellet, you're on. Your dispatch is pinned so you can regale us with hockey league exploits.
