I've seen this a lot whether Filipinos are Asians, Westerners, or Pacific Islanders. Filipinos are Asian and we acknowledge ourselves as Asian. Anyone who says otherwise are either confused or clings on to Western identity. As for the question, read the rant.

In Filipino history, we called ourselves Asian, even before and during the Spanish colonialization. Filipino nationalism in the 1700s-1800s solidified our identity as 'Bayang Katagalugan', which is Asian. American occupation was what introduced the term 'Pacific Islander' to the country. However, it only meant as 'people who live on islands in the Pacific' rather than the modern term of 'people of the Pacific' such as the Melanesians, Polynesians, etc. Both American and Japanese occupation labeled us as Asians. It was only after gaining independence when our little identity crisis started due to societal and cultural rifts.

Western is wrong. We are not western. We never were. Western-infused may be the correct term but we are not western. Calling us 'Pacific Islanders' is wrong as well. American occupation is long gone and we have nothing in common with the people of the Pacific. The sociologists and other experts definitively classify us as 'Asian'.

As for ordinary pure-blood Filipinos, they should really stop with trying to identify themselves with one side or another. It's been a debate for decades and they seem to think that there is a right answer to pander to their quest for foreign attention. They need to come to terms with their multi-culturalism and stop pretending that being assosciated with certain people is superior to other people. Others pretend to be purely Western to pander to colonial mentality and superiority, others pretend to be purely Asian while ignoring centuries of cultural change and modernity, and others pretend to be purely Pacific Islander to feel closer to Daddy America. Rhetoric between superiority complexes.

Side tangent. My Family's Filipino side is acknowledged, but downplayed by a much stronger pride in our Spanish heritage. My great grandmother was from Andalusia, my great grandfather was from Balayan. Our family has always said that his father was a spanish soldier i.e. we're much more Spanish than Filipino. However, my DNA test indicated that my Y-haplogroup (father-line) is O; unmistakably eastern asian. My sister's DNA test reported that nearly 30% of her dna was most closely related to the Philippine region. Part of my families story being contrary to the truth has to do with the Japanese destroying the genealogy records in WWII, but I think that certainly some of it had to do with the prevailing feelings about race when they immigrated to the US in 1920 - that European blood was much more prestigious than Asian, and so the story just stuck around for decades.

Woah. We come from the same province! I guess I have the same sentiments as well coming from a Spanish-Mexican lineage. Though, it's now blurry since they came around the 1700s and have since intermarried with native Filipinos. I get why Filipinos, both then and now, would prefer to identify themselves with their European heritage though. It was what dictated the norm back then. Sets us apart from the rest of Asia and allows us to be accepted in Western countries.

IIC or OOC?
In Norway we have 4 or even 5
110 for ambulance
112 for police
113 for the fire brigade
then there's 120 for maritime emergency and 116117 for anything medical that's non-urgent (puts you in contact with the nearest doctors office, basically)
IC-ly I'm thinking maybe 000 or 999 for Segentova, quick 'n' easy

101 is Police non - emergency
111 is National Health Service helpline

Government as a Platform
Making Public Services accessible, affordable and adaptable

Government as a Platform is a innovative design for a foundation of
digital services and products that allows government and non-governmental organisations
to deliver next-generation public services. Such innovations are important as the lines between
government, business and civil society continue to blur.

Government as a Platform

What is Government as a Platform?

-
-
-
-
-
The Government as a Platform is a common core infrastructure of shared digital systems, technology and processes developed by GOV.ALT Digital Services and Horizon Inc.

It's aim is to produce, maintain and develop a central system of government digital services that can easily be adapted, expanded and upgraded for a user-friendly set of government services.

Several examples of services are currently running, including GOV.ALT, GOV.ALT Pay, GOV.ALT Verify and GOV.ALT Learning.

Government as a Platform works in conjunction with the eAltera project, Mercia and Horizon Web Services.

Bringing better Public Services

-
-
-
-
-
Government as a Platform (GaaP) is described as route to create more user-friendly public services.

The Alteran Governments Digital Services "umbrella product" GOV.ALT adopted the phrase in early 2015 for its next phase in the digital transformation of its public services.

From the early days of the GaaP and GOV.ALT programme, its core mission was to provide a route to develop better, user-centric government services that were more closely targeted at user needs.

When defining the user, GOV.ALT does not just focus on the general public, but also the NGOs, civil servants and companies that would use and interact with government services on a daily basis.

What are some of the major services within GaaP?

    GOV.ALT Comms
    - Digitally provided communication options for a variety of users and organisations, enabling secure and swift communication between the public, public services and third-parties. Using embedded Horizon Inc. tooling, Comms allows for traditional emailing, instant messaging, video and audio calls.

    GOV.ALT Library
    - A centralized archiving and storage solution for all government documentation and files; including those created and used within government departments and those offered for public consumption. Equally allows for real-time sharing and collaboration.

    GOV.ALT Learning
    - An online, user-centric tool to track, lead and develop the process of training and career development for civil servants and government employees; giving civil servants access to thousands of paid and free content provided by government departments, NGOs and other third-parties.

    GOV.ALT Health
    - A platform for users to interact with various strands of the Alteran Health infrastructure, with users able to book appointments, track medication, pay for extra services and browse health-related information for self-diagnosis.

    GOV.ALT Jobs
    - Starting as a job portal for government jobs, the service now encompasses a variety of jobs across numerous sectors - both in the public and private sectors. Jobs can be listed, viewed and applied for through the GOV.ALT Jobs portal.

    GOV.ALT Pay
    - Developed as a simple method of tracking and paying a variety of taxes, bills and fines to government services; all within one simple portal. Originally created to pay speeding and parking fines, the system now encompasses an array of payment methods for any government department; usable by both the general public and civil servants to other departments.

    GOV.ALT Support
    - A centralized platform for support of the GOV.ALT digital infrastructure made up of a unified team of dedicated technical support staff and tooling. Support is offered to all users of GaaP, including public users, civil servants and private companies. Support offered by various levels of technical staff and AIs for L1, L2 and L3 teams.

    GOV.ALT Verify
    - A secure and modern method of online verification; used by hundreds of companies and services across the globe. Users are now able to verify who they are online using a variety of methods; including passport numbers, drivers licenses and other forms of identification. The system stores this information securely and does not pass this information onto third parties; merely informing the third party whether the user can pass their requirements.

Merito non pareret. | By merit, not birth.

GOV.ALT service is designed and maintained by HORIZON Inc.
on behalf of the Alteran Council of Information, Altera.

As GOV.ALT grows, I realized I neglected to update the portions of the site that outline its purpose; so I've started with the creation of the GaaP page and ensuring the indexed pages are correct and up-to-date.

Thoughts, comments and criticism are welcome as always.

That nation has some dispatches put aside for me for me for meeeeeeeeeee

Every month, the office selects a dispatch posted within the month that it has deemed exceptionally unique, creative and informative and deserves the recognition it needs. The dispatch is then featured here, as part of our Dispatch of the Month program. As long as the original author of the dispatch is in this region and exists on our Regional Map, the dispatch meets our requirements for the program.

Is there a dispatch you know that you feel is worthy of the award? If so, please do not hesitate to inform our Officer of Recognition - the official organizer of the program - of it. The office very much appreciates such nominations, as we are unable to keep track of every dispatch within the region.

About the Dispatch of the Month

The Dispatch of the Month is a program launched and run by the Office of Information. As stated before, the program involves the office featuring a dispatch it likes and feels the need to commend. The program was done in order to stimulate regional activity, encourage creativity, improve writing skills, and boost the overall nationbuilding quality.

The following requirements need to be met in order for a dispatch to be eligible for nomination:

  • Author must be in the region and regional map

  • Dispatch will have to be posted within the month

We determine the Dispatch of the Month results through a number of criteria. Each are worth 10 points, and the highest total score you can achieve is 40. The criteria are:

  • Uniqueness: What makes it different from other dispatches and nominees.

  • Creativity: How original and creative the dispatch itself is.

  • Visual Appealingness: How appealing the dispatch is.

  • Information: How informative the dispatch is.

You can also nominate any dispatch (yes, even yours) so long that it meets our guidelines. This greatly helps us reach a larger number of dispatches and possible nominees. However, only the dispatch with the highest total points based off our criteria will claim the title of Dispatch of the Month.

Brigador is a fun game

Corindia I'm crowdsourcing tank ideas for my 40g. I don't know what I want to stock it with but I decided I'm not moving over any of my current gang to it.

It's not got a ton of plants in it (especially compared to the jungle I have in my main tank) but it is definitely planted. Some red flame swords, assorted crypts (tropica and wendetii), anubias nangi, a small patch of microsword, and moved the two aquarium lilies from the old tank to this one. Driftwood + rock cave is the main feature of the tank and it takes up the right half of the tank going about halfway up so I've got plenty of open space for swimming and perusing the ground. The mopani wood has leeched a surprising amount of tannins into the water given how long I soaked it and I'm not against having a blackwater setup, especially given the larger amounts of browns/tans/golds that my hardscape and plants are providing

apistogramma or gourami would be cool, I've been thinking about how neat larger (compared to what I have) fish could be. Could stay with small fish and go for chili raspboras or maybe some sort of killifish. Also I strongly recommend rabbit snails as always bc they're just so fun.

Fun fact you can play my nations mbt in war thunder because it’s basically the type 90 just with a different name
