The fact that the Protectorate's most common religion, Bowism, is exceptionally vague and wildly varied in interpretation. Because it's based entirely on a handful of written sources and poems attributed to the Second Saint (the only one of seven supposedly born in Kretaza), it's doctrine and practices are prone to change. While most peasants see the Bow as a supreme rain-god to be called upon during drought, among the nobility and especially army it's seen as an omnipotent guardian deity used to justify a united humanity in which no monarch can exist. Other interpretations have seen the Bow as a malevolent being that overthrew the peaceful order of the old gods, or even as one of many trickster spirits that all Bowists attribute other religions to.
