Sorry for the late response. To be honest, my previous flag was not that great, but I still wanted a flag which gave an "empire" feeling. Although I think yellow and white does not fit too well, but I like the colour black and yellow, therefore I wanted to add them. But thanks :)

Good day to you too! It's pretty funny that I'm now considered a mammoth, since I don't feel like my nation is that old, but that's relative, I guess.

Hey. Apologies for taking so long to put this up, and also apologies for the poorly and hastily slapped together emblem.

The Federal Kingdom of Nardin
for 1st Deputy Commissioner

+ Here We Go Again +

Campaign:

The Federal Kingdom of Nardin declares its standing in the April 2021 elections for the 1st Deputy Commissionership of the region of Europe. Nardin seeks to run for a seat on the Commission for the first time since March 2020 and third time overall. As 1st Deputy Commissioner, Nardin will uphold the status quo of Europe, serve diligently as a member of the Moderation Committee, and attempt to foster regional activity by hosting events.

Policies:

European Status Quo:

For my time in office I have at this time no plan for drafting legislation, though I am ready to act and cooperate with the creation of necessary laws should the need for them be brought forward. If anything, I have long wanted to create a law that would discourage the perennial European tendency to have drama filled arguments that spiral out of control. For as long as I’ve been in Europe, we’ve seen quite a few times tempers flare a little too high and people are driven out or veritably ostracized to a degree. I’m all for healthy arguments, but ad hominem arguments are too common here for my liking. There is a possibility here for legislation, perhaps, by which those needlessly embroiling the entirety of the RMB could be told – to borrow a familiar phrase – to “knock it off, NOW” and continue their arguments via telegram and discord. But I digress; that’s just me rambling and only the seed of an idea for legislation, and you’re free to talk with me about it or disagree if you like.

All in all, I aim to uphold the blessed European status quo, and seek to be an active member of Mod Comm.

Trolling:

I have in the past advocated for making more strict laws in terms of managing the Regional Message Board (RMB), harsher penalties with which to punish offenders, and even for the creation of a new post in the government specifically to combat trolling.

Since last campaigning on these points, laws have been put into effect that more clearly define what constitutes trolling on the RMB, and I am satisfied with these. Regarding punishments, I believe that the warnings and punishments in place now are also adequate and do not need to be made more stringent at this time. Similarly, I no longer believe that a new government position is required at this time, though I would not be opposed to the creation of such an office should the need arise.

Make no mistake, I do not take kindly to trolling, particularly all that we have seen in one form or another over the past year or so. I do however believe that many in this region, unfortunately myself included at times, often have the tendency to pursue any perceived trolling with relentless abandon, particularly the newer members of the community. Relatedly, there seems to be a tendency to “witchhunt” on the RMB against alleged rulebreakers, or even those that are found “different” or “annoying” even.

I believe that the system of the Moderation Committee that we have in place now is more than able to carry on as well as they have done up to this point in time. It may not always move and make decisions at the speed that some call for, but I think that it gives the necessary sober second look at the cases brought before it, and it deals with the trolls that we do get as effectively as it can. As a commissioner I look forward to providing Mod Comm assistance in this area.

Activity in the Region:

Herein lies one of my primary desires in taking on the position of Deputy Commissioner. If you’ve read this far down my campaign dispatch, odds are that you’ve also seen how recently everyone calls out the boringness of the RMB, yearning for the good old days, and so on. Again, I too am one of these people who sits on the front porch and shakes their head at the rambunctious youngsters. Yes, activity certainly doesn’t seem to be what it once was. The RMB is mostly low effort content, especially all the posts that I make.

But I refuse to believe that this is just the way that it has to be now. The RMB and the region as a whole will only ever produce the quality of content that we ourselves contribute to it. In line with this belief, it is my plan to create new or revitalize old regional events with the purpose of fostering a greater degree of activity. What possible events could I be thinking of? Well you probably guessed it – sports. Europe has had several sporting leagues in the past, most notably the football leagues of Outer Sparta, Suomessa’s hockey cup, and others. While I have not finalized what sport(s) to begin, I would like to either create myself or have others work with me to begin a new league of some kind along these lines. While we don’t RP on the RMB, it can certainly generate more interest and stimulate more conversation. I’d particularly like to coordinate efforts with commissioner Rivierenland, who I know has recently mentioned wanting to do something similar concerning sports. Another possibility here, taken from a Home Office poll several months back, is the idea of a European Olympics. Given enough interest, I would love to work with the Home Office to create an Olympics-like event of some kind.

Of course, I don’t want to limit events to just sporting ones. I am looking for other avenues to pursue. Suggestions are, of course, most welcome. Finally, I would promise "fun" polls but that's a pretty cliché thing for aspiring commissioners to promise the electorate; I promise you basic, ordinary polls, because lets be honest, that's what they'll probably be. Temperate.

Conclusion:

If you've read this far, I assume you're at least somewhat interested in the electoral happenings of this lovely region of ours. On election day, please go out there and vote for whoever you think will best serve the region. If you have any questions or comments for me about what has been written here or on anything else, please feel free to throw me a telegram, but not too hard. Thanks for your attention. Carthago delenda est.
