Along with you, our policy of non-proliferation tends to be suspiciously waived during global nuclear war as well.
Hope everyone has a great N-Day!

Ok, here are some more questions for the candidates, mostly focused on Lore and Culture but some miscellaneous too:

1) Would you support the continued growth of the Lore Ministry? (Not as in more Lore Ministers, just like more Lore Ministry projects)
2) Do you intend to keep the Cabinet pretty similar to the incumbent, or do you intend to shake things up?
3) Would you support creating a sort of list of official Forestian things? Such as an official Forestian Anthem, an official Forestian Motto, an official regional food, etc?
4) Would you encourage more coöperation between the Lore and Culture ministries? Such as a contest to design the UoF flag, maybe a contest for a new RP idea, a Forestvision Song Competition, etc?
5) Do you have any ideas for future RPs?
6) Would you consider the idea of a weekly Lore showcase, where each week a different nation is selected (they’d have to volunteer though), and they get to share their nation’s lore?

And now some less serious questions:
7) Would you require all official Forest dispatches to use the Diaeresis to separate vowel sounds (e.g. coöperation, reëlect, zoölogy, Chloë)?
8) Would you require all official Forestian dispatches to use the Oxford Comma?
9) Would you create a yearly Errinundera Memorial Day, to mourn their CTEing, followed the next day by a big party over at The Bar on the corner of every region to celebrate their hopeful return in the messianic age?
10) Will you please not fire me?

You don’t all have to answer all of these, so we don’t clutter up the RMB. Just answer as many as you want.

Whichever candidate vows to introduce this gets my vote without second thought. I love the idea!

Middle Barael wrote:Ok, here are some more questions for the candidates, mostly focused on Lore and Culture but some miscellaneous too:

YES! I mean - er, I'd be delighted to answer your questions, in a professional and formal manner. 100%

Middle Barael wrote:1) Would you support the continued growth of the Lore Ministry? (Not as in more Lore Ministers, just like more Lore Ministry projects)

OOC: Yeeeeeees! (Actually culture and roleplay in general)
Campaign: It is in Forest's interest to focus on expanding its recruiting and promoting of religious indoctrinations for prospective newcomers so they learn the evils of society and the horrific crimes against the environment they should feel personally responsible and guilty for through the cozy facade of a roleplay and culture.

Middle Barael wrote:2) Do you intend to keep the Cabinet pretty similar to the incumbent, or do you intend to shake things up?

OOC: I would keep whoever wanted to stay just because they've done a great job already, although I'd be up for new arrivals wanting to try a deputy position as well as replacing anyone who wanted to leave. :P
Campaign: I will chose my staff through a lottery system in order to create real equality among the residents of Forest. I also will make every cabinet member's sole job be to work on the map.

Middle Barael wrote:3) Would you support creating a sort of list of official Forestian things? Such as an official Forestian Anthem, an official Forestian Motto, an official regional food, etc?

OOC: Seeing as I've already done all of these things for another region... yes! Yes I would! But at the same time I'm not entirely certain "Forest" is really the kind of region to have a "regional anthem" or anything really, except for maybe a motto. That'd have to be discussed with the community at large before anything actually went through, hehe.
Campaign: The regional anthem will be a remix of Imperial March but with bird calls and waterfalls, the regional motto will be "Down with civilization!", and the regional food will be roasted seaweed and mushrooms on a bun... with a side of chocolate chip cookies.

Middle Barael wrote:4) Would you encourage more coöperation between the Lore and Culture ministries? Such as a contest to design the UoF flag, maybe a contest for a new RP idea, a Forestvision Song Competition, etc?

OOC: YES! 100% YES!
Campaign: No. They must eternally be at war. There will be no conspiring against the natural order.

Middle Barael wrote:6) Would you consider the idea of a weekly Lore showcase, where each week a different nation is selected (they’d have to volunteer though), and they get to share their nation’s lore?

OOC: I'm honestly not sure there'd be enough people interested for a weekly thing... though, we could always do something similar, but weekly. Or, we could collect volunteers and just feature them once a week or something.
Campaign: All of Forest's nations' lore will be erased and converted to the Holy Text of the Epic Mangrove God (Ransium), where nations were created as an experiment by trees to see how long they could cope with environmental shenanigans before failing.

Middle Barael wrote:And now some less serious questions:

Campaign: I rescind my previous statement. This truly is a ridiculous question.

Middle Barael wrote:9) Would you create a yearly Errinundera Memorial Day, to mourn their CTEing, followed the next day by a big party over at The Bar on the corner of every region to celebrate their hopeful return in the messianic age?

OOC: YES.
Campaign: Alcohol is illegal in Jutsa.
OOC: Okay just forget Campaign me on this one this is too good an idea.
Campaign: No it isn't
OOC: Shut up
Campaign: No you shut up
OOC: What am I doing with my life

Middle Barael wrote:10) Will you please not fire me?

OOC: Of course not, you're awesome! <3
Campaign: I can't promise you that. Should the RNG gods of the New Lottocracy favor you, or be pleased with a sufficient number of land bribes, then you should have nothing to worry about.

Middle Barael wrote:You don’t all have to answer all of these, so we don’t clutter up the RMB. Just answer as many as you want.

Yes, I see the Lore Ministry as a passion project that adds value to the region so as long as someone is willing and exited to participate there are no downsides.

Middle Barael wrote:2) Do you intend to keep the Cabinet pretty similar to the incumbent, or do you intend to shake things up?

This cabinet has been exceptional so, unless someone wants to do something else then I would be more than happy to keep it as it is. However, if time and ability permits I would like to start crafting dispatches that go in detail on the requirements for regularly occurring cabinet positions. This will increase transparency, and also encourage more Forestians to engage and be part of future governments.

Middle Barael wrote:3) Would you support creating a sort of list of official Forestian things? Such as an official Forestian Anthem, an official Forestian Motto, an official regional food, etc?

Yes, however I would want a certain level of engagement from the region for anything that dictates Forest's culture in a major way.

Middle Barael wrote:4) Would you encourage more coöperation between the Lore and Culture ministries? Such as a contest to design the UoF flag, maybe a contest for a new RP idea, a Forestvision Song Competition, etc?

Absolutely, but also relationships and ideas are organic. They can be fostered best in groups that have the freedom to experiment. While it is not the total burden of the culture ministry and lore ministry to come up with ideas, it is a significant portion of their responsibility. Considering my comments on the success of last terms cabinet however, I have no doubts that your wishes can come true.

Middle Barael wrote:5) Do you have any ideas for future RPs?

I love roleplaying, and have lots of ideas but interest is the main deciding factor in how successful RP is. Determining where interest lies, and creating stories or jump points from their is critical to success of those ventures.

Middle Barael wrote:6) Would you consider the idea of a weekly Lore showcase, where each week a different nation is selected (they’d have to volunteer though), and they get to share their nation’s lore?

This is interesting, though it could easily become overwhelming depending on the depth of the lore of each nation and how its showcased.

7. Nobody has time for that.
8. No one actually is confused through a lack of an oxford comma. If you really think someone said Lets eat Grandma! instead of Lets eat, Grandma then maybe you should call the police? List issues with comma usage is often fixed in a more efficient and sensible way by changing how the sentence is created.
9. No, the truth is that Errinundera is not a person but a Lets Play Nationstates Twitch stream.
10. If you pledge complete loyalty to me above all others, I will consider not firing you.

Middle Barael wrote:Would you require all official Forestian dispatches to use the Oxford Comma?

I've always felt that official dispatches should follow the same primary spelling/grammar/punctuation rule as issues; namely, the writer should use whichever form of spelling, grammar or punctuation is correct where they're from. I'm not really sure why I should use incorrect grammar, spelling or punctuation (in my country) so that our American nations find my dispatches easier to read or more aesthetically pleasing. When reading others' dispatches the American vs Commonwealth difference doesn't bother me.

What's next, telling Regional Officers they're only allowed to use the American spellings of words? You do you, MB, but let me do me.

Middle Barael wrote:Would you support the continued growth of the Lore Ministry? (Not as in more Lore Ministers, just like more Lore Ministry projects)

I'm interested as to what prompted this question. It's a little vague. A how? from the candidates would maybe be more informative.

In that sense, I'm also interested in what plans the candidates have specifically for the growth of the Culture and Lore ministries. In an earlier post I mentioned running out of time, and it's true - in terms of boosting regional activity, there's only so much Regional Officers can do with regards to the planning and execution of region-wide (and interregional) events and activities in one term. I've learned that the Ministry of Culture is like an iceberg, where the planning and organising necessary to support everything is more complicated and time-consuming than would appear to those participating in the resulting activities. That's not a complaint, it's a hard fact - and add to the behind-the-scenes time that Forest is a hobby and not a part-time or full-time job (if only!).

Still, I'd like to see many more cultural events in Forest's calendar and while the Culture Minister should be part of that, whoever that is can't make up all of the difference. What I want to hear from the candidates is this: how would you encourage non-government members of Forest to get involved with regional activities, and how would you encourage them to get involved with boosting regional involvement themselves through running their own regional activities?

Middle Barael wrote:Would you encourage more coöperation between the Lore and Culture ministries? Such as a contest to design the UoF flag, maybe a contest for a new RP idea, a Forestvision Song Competition, etc?

I'd like to see some of this, though we were obviously both preoccupied with setting up our own ministries during this last term. In line with what I've said above, it would be great to see more Forestians take the initiative with stuff like this. There's really nothing stopping any citizen from deciding to run their own IC or OOC events; consider the likes of Einswenn's IC Pride Conference.

Middle Barael wrote:Would you create a yearly Errinundera Memorial Day, to mourn their CTEing, followed the next day by a big party over at The Bar on the corner of every region to celebrate their hopeful return in the messianic age?

I would like to see the occasion marked by Lore Ministry and Ministry of Culture events. In fact, I do have some thoughts on that but they're not in any state to share right now.

Middle Barael wrote:Will you please not fire me?

Eugh, I can smell the desperation from here.

Nah, I'm just joshing you. You really made the best of a tough situation where you basically had to build the RP side of things up from scratch.

September General Elections Round-Up
by Polaris Staff

The people have spoken, the votes have been counted, the counts started, stopped, and restarted again and the kraken has been released? and TNP?s September 2021 general elections have been concluded. Here?s a rundown:

Delegate Election
The Delegate election saw Minister of Foreign Affairs MadJack defeat former Vice Delegate Dreadton, along with MTDemocracy and Comfed. With Comfed running a humorous campaign and MTDemocracy a newcomer to the region, it was a straight fight between MadJack and Dreadton.

Both major candidates ran on campaigns focussed around engaging the region and ensuring that admin-induced changes to the region could and would be countered with better and more effective outreach, along with renewed and reformed Ministries. MadJack also focused on reviewing the state of tech tools in the region, pursuing a more proactive foreign policy, and tackling over-reliance on a few staffers in the ministries. Dreadton campaigned on doing more to promote the region in-game to a wider audience.

Somehow avoiding the self-sabotage that has been a feature of his previous delegate campaigns, MadJack won the election on the first count, with 57% of the vote.

Vice Delegate Election
In the Vice Delegate race, three candidates ran, Sir Kasto, Lord Dominator and Blue Wolf II. Since Blue Wolf II did not post a campaign, the campaigns by the remaining two were quite similar, maintaining the WADP, the security checks on citizens and the maintaining endorsements, core responsibilities of a Vice Delegate. Both were also committed to welcoming and mentoring new citizens.

Sir Kasto had an additional focus on community relations, leading in trying to engage the Security Council with the larger gameside community, where it had been lacking in previous terms. In the platform, Sir Kasto advocated for a constant engagement that ?will allow better communication and endotarting as they will recognize us.? With Sir Kasto additional focus on community relations and his experience as Deputy Minister in multiple ministries in the previous term, was elected convincingly with 62.07% of the vote.

Speaker Election
The remarkable happened in the Speaker's election, perennial candidate RON (re-open nominations) was elected with a landslide 77% of the vote. This occurred after the sole candidate Venicea pulled out of the election after a controversy erupted over their claims of tech issues.

In the re-run election (RON graciously stepped aside), 5 candidates stood - Deputy Speaker Bobberino, former Minister of Communications Fregerson, leader of the TNP Socialist Party Nubt II, former Speaker and Vice Delegate Oracle, and Gameside Advocate and Deputy Speaker Skaraborg.

Fregerson, who had run a campaign for RON prior to Venicea withdrawing from the race, was an early favourite, though when Oracle entered the race the smart money moved to backing the TNP veteran, who did indeed win the contest, defeating Skaraborg in the 4th round of voting.

Middle Barael wrote:Would you support the continued growth of the Lore Ministry? (Not as in more Lore Ministers, just like more Lore Ministry projects)

So yes, basically i’d like to see Lore Ministry projects grow and expand, or, at the very least, keep at the same level.

Middle Barael wrote:Do you intend to keep the Cabinet pretty similar to the incumbent, or do you intend to shake things up?

Middle Barael wrote:Will you please not fire me?

As similar as it was in the 10th Cabinet. If elected, I’ll contact every member of previous government to ask if they wish to stay in charge of the same departments/matters. “Stagnation?” one’d ask, “Stability” I’d reply. As for you personally, I’d love to see you in my team because I’m fascinated by your dedication to lore development and regional roleplay. You’ve done a huge job during the last term and I believe this shan’t end here.

Middle Barael wrote:Would you support creating a sort of list of official Forestian things? Such as an official Forestian Anthem, an official Forestian Motto, an official regional food, etc?

Middle Barael wrote:Would you encourage more coöperation between the Lore and Culture ministries? Such as a contest to design the UoF flag, maybe a contest for a new RP idea, a Forestvision Song Competition, etc?

Cooperation between said ministries is important, I see them as a joint bodies of the government. Contests are always fun, and if a Lore Minister feels like to call for a RP contest (like your idea of UoF Flag Design one) they have to be able to work together with Culture Minister. However, I’d rather focus on UoF/RP branding and integration instead of expanding Forest’s things. Regional anthem sounds good though.

Middle Barael wrote:Would you consider the idea of a weekly Lore showcase, where each week a different nation is selected (they’d have to volunteer though), and they get to share their nation’s lore?

In my opinion, weekly is too frequent. Do we have that many active nations who’d possibly share their lore? Maybe bi-monthly or monthly would be good. Also, instead of focusing on featured nations, I’d love to see Lore Questions of the Week back because this is a splendid worldbuilding initiative that helps a lot in individual lore development for nations (and for myself too, I have all the questions saved in my notes to gradually add them to my lore, thanks for that, MB!).

Middle Barael wrote:And now some less serious questions: Would you require all official Forest dispatches to use the Diaeresis to separate vowel sounds (e.g. coöperation, reëlect, zoölogy, Chloë)?

Oh, no thanks. Freedom of vowel expression!

Middle Barael wrote:Would you require all official Forestian dispatches to use the Oxford Comma?

This feels like a mandatory act tyranny to me and I’m all for it but no, if elected, I won’t suggest such constitutional amendment this time.
