A new home...except it's where I've lived all along

Hey, I've joined from a link in the United States of America region. I chose this state cause it's where I live.

The Shipwreck of USS Monitor

I realized that mistake after I had logged off. Never logged back in to correct that.

Idk what ship that is but cool.

USS Monitor was a civil war era Iron Clad warship of the US Navy. I do not know if this ship actually was successful as a warship, but I do know that it sunk off the coast of North Carolina in a gale.

Oh... no, I'm... being corrup...t...ed by smur- End transmission.

It was successful in protecting Minnesota.

I wrote an issue. I'm gonna see if it's accepted.

It was also a good prototype for modern ship designs. The original Monitor was very effective for its size, but it was rushed into service without being fully debugged and it had a few design flaws that needed to be corrected in later ironclads.

After USS Monitor, the Union built a debugged version called USS Passaic and then some other ships built to the same specs as the Passaic. Some of the Passaic-class monitors lasted until around the turn of the 20th century. They were obsolete by that time, but still good enough to go out on coastal patrols.

There were also many other "monitor" variants built through the late 19th and early 20th century. Navies in Europe and Latin America developed their own versions as well as the US ones.

Even though the Monitor and Virginia fought to a draw, the Monitor was a much better design. It was smaller and needed fewer crew, so that meant it was easier to build more.
