Abortion: Assembly to debate recent changes to NI laws
The assembly will debate a motion later that seeks to reject recent changes to Northern Ireland's abortion laws.
The DUP is calling for the rejection of "the imposition of abortion legislation which extends to all non-fatal disabilities, including Down's syndrome".
Sinn Féin does not support the DUP's motion.
Instead, it has proposed an amendment that would alter the motion, to state that the assembly "rejects the specific legislative provision in the abortion legislation which goes beyond fatal fetal abnormalities to include non-fatal disabilities, including Down's syndrome".
Sinn Féin changed its policy on abortion in 2018 to support terminations in all circumstances up to 12 weeks.
It had already backed making terminations available in circumstances like fatal fetal abnormality, rape or sexual abuse.
However, this amendment drafted by the party indicates it wants the Westminster legislation amended, when it comes to cases of non-fatal disability.

Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde's response to President Trump after he visited an Episcopal church for a photo op:
The President just used a Bible and one of the churches of my diocese as a backdrop for a message antithetical to the teachings of Jesus and everything that our church stands for. To do so, he sanctioned the use of tear gas by police officers in riot gear to clear the church yard.
I am outraged.
The President did not pray when he came to St. John’s; nor did he acknowledge the agony and sacred worth of people of color in our nation who rightfully demand an end to 400 years of systemic racism and white supremacy in our country.
We in the Diocese of Washington follow Jesus in His Way of Love. We aspire to be people of peace and advocates of justice. In no way do we support the President’s incendiary response to a wounded, grieving nation. In faithfulness to our Savior who lived a life of non-violence and sacrificial love, we align ourselves with those seeking justice for the death of George Floyd and countless others through the sacred act of peaceful protest.

Me: *looks through my policies*
Hmmmmm
*looks again*
Nothing seems suspicious or different from the rest of these
*the policy titled human sacrifice with dark figures in cloaks shows up*
Ah, wait, I forgot I did that as a joke because this nation is a joke, no wonder everyone dies from human sacrifice in my nation and no matter what I do it just gets worse.
Not intentionally our allies. It's TBH doing their usual raiding runs, I think.

Hello everyone! Friendly reminder to sign up for the CHC by tomorrow night!
It would be good to see a conservative candidate stand in the election too, at least then it isn't a coronation.
Apparently there was still a person in the US getting money from the Civil War Pension. I thought they would've been long gone.

Another oddity is that president John Tyler, who was president in the 1840's still has grandchildren alive.

Just attended a BLM protest in my town's square. It was small (maybe 150 people) and brief, but we made our voices heard, and got a lot of support from people driving through.

I like the majority of the NAACP's "demands", but even disregarding the ones I don't like I'm hoping they can give a purpose to what has hitherto felt like a bit of an aimless protest. I know the protest was initially demanding justice for George, but after the charges it just felt like a movement showing desire to change, but, at least from what I've seen, offering few solutions.
For context, I've had a hard time nailing down all the NAACP demands, but this list seems near complete: https://www.waff.com/2020/06/04/naacp-demands-all-police-departments/
I don't like releasing all footage in relation to every police incident and 911 call, I understand the heart is to expose other acts of injustice perhaps hidden from public view, but it could undermine some privacy rights (I wouldn't want my 911 calls being released if I had a choice), and encourage vigilantism if the public starts engaging in justice by popular opinion. This is also true for releasing all names of officers involved in shootings, in my opinion that should be something that happens in a controlled manner and not an automatic manner, though I'm sure this could be negotiated. Likewise, I would prefer if the increased level of investigation for police shootings was not restricted to minorities and rather made broad. But overall a list of demands is something that starts conversations and provides a basis for negotiation so with that in mind I approve, especially if it can unite protesters behind a common cause.

Love the name. Do you have any oxidane on you?

I don’t think any change will occur because of BLM protests, because the Floyd murder has brought up only racism and not police brutality on the whole. This is not a black issue. Unarmed whites and hispanics are also shot unnecessarily, and we aren’t addressing it. The police can stop being racist and there will still be shootings of innocent people because the police for years have been armed and brutal to everyone. But we always get the bone, not the meat, so we’re going to go after a secondary problem that won’t change anything.
Perhaps disarming your regular police force could be the answer, only allow specialised forces to carry weaponry, the rest only having non-lethal force such as batons, pepper spray and tasers. This could at least limit the number of shootings carried out by the police.
