National Chocolate Pudding Day 2019
It was the lunch table trump snack. If you looked in your sack lunch and saw a Snack Pack, SwissMiss, or Jell-o brand chocolate pudding, you knew you had top currency. The lunch table and all its contents were your domain, and you could trade for anything you wanted. Not that you ever would, of course. Indulging yourself in a little chocolate pudding doesn’t have to be a nostalgic childhood memory a feel-good pastime. We’re pleased to tell you that June 26 is National Chocolate Pudding Day, when adults and kids alike can heap spoonful after spoonful of the stuff with abandon. If it is pudding’s creaminess and smooth texture that make you melt, you may grimace at its origins as a sometimes-savory cakey dessert. In the 17th century, “pudding” was served after dinner, and included everything from grains to raw mutton fat. Definitely not the spoonable suaveness we know and love today. And while the origin of National Chocolate Pudding Day is a bit obscure, we can at least take comfort in knowing it arose after creamy pudding was invented in the mid-1800’s. We take our chocolate pudding without raw kidney fat, thank you.
National Chocolate Pudding Day Activities
1. Have a fancy pudding night
Take homemade pudding or your favorite pre-made variety and serve it in a parfait cup, champagne flute, wine glass, or any other container that screams “class,” and present it to your friends. For extra flare, add fruit, whipped cream, dark chocolate bits or cinnamon sticks. The last thing you want is a vanilla party on Chocolate Pudding Day. Use your creativity to jazz things up a bit.
2. Make mud pies
A children’s favorite, all you need is some chocolate pudding, Oreos, and gummy worms. Arrange the crushed Oreos over the pudding, and push the gummy worms halfway into the “dirt” so it looks like they are emerging. You and your kids will have a blast creating - and eating - this fun dessert. And, at least, for today, let them get messy – it is only pudding after all.
3. Surprise a friend
Find a chocolate pudding cup brand that does not require refrigeration and leave one out for a friend or partner with a quirky note. Perhaps something like “Thanks for pudding up with me all these years” would go over well? Even if it is just “Thanks for being my friend,” it is an easy way to surprise a friend and celebrate Chocolate Pudding Day all at once.

Simply wash out your cup and recycle when you are done, or if making your own, use the microwave and around five ingredients. Just 10 minutes, and you are done. Clean up is no different than any other one-bowl dish.
3. It goes well with other desserts
If you have a few extra ingredients lying around and want the creme de la creme of chocolate pudding treats, try mixing them together for a creation all your own. Do not let those last crumbs of graham cracker go to waste — mix them in! Need to use up the whipped cream before it loses its texture? Whip up some chocolate pudding to go with it.

National Bingo Day 2019
Nearly everyone who grew up during a certain part of the late 20th century is familiar with Bingo. The game, which first came to the U.S. in the 1930s, started with paper cards sporting 24 numbered squares arranged in five rows and five columns — plus that enticing “free space” in the middle which seems to promise a short cut to riches! Bingo’s making a comeback today thanks to Bingo games on mobile devices. National Bingo Day, on June 27, celebrates America’s love of Bingo. Read on for a little nostalgia and a look at where Bingo’s headed next.

2010s
Bingo goes mobile
Like thousands of other games, Bingo has found a home on mobile devices — allowing players to enjoy Bingo around the clock from the palm of their hand. Popular games include Bingo Bash and Bingo Blitz. Fort Mason Games’ "Lucky Scratch" takes Bingo to a new level — allowing users to play live Bingo games with others across the globe — and actually win real cash prizes without having to pay to play. The game is ad-supported so now everyone can enjoy Bingo and experience the chance to win a jackpot for free.

"Drag Bingo"
A Seattle nonprofit supporting people with AIDS began staging Bingo games to raise funds. Drag queens dressed as nuns hosted the event — which proved enormously successful.
1929
"Beano"
Toymaker Edwin Lowe discovered people playing a game called Beano at a carnival outside Atlanta. Competitors used dried beans, a rubber stamp, and cardboard sheets. Lowe, whose company went on to produce the dice game, Yahtzee, helped Bingo gain nationwide attention. Lowe apparently renamed it after overhearing someone accidentally yell "Bingo" instead of "Beano."

"Le Lotto"
This French game gently pushed Bingo into the modern era by featuring a card with 27 numbers (nine columns and three rows). The numbers, at the time, ranged from one to 90. Only wealthy people played at first, but the game soon spread across the country.

"Il Giuoco del Lotto d'Italia"
Although this sounds like an amazing dessert, it's actually an Italian lottery game. Italy's government still sponsors weekly games and uses the proceeds to fund public projects.

1. Play on your phone
Not surprisingly, Bingo has made a smooth transition to the digital world. Apps make it easy to play anytime and compete against your friends. You can also scream, "Bingo," really loud on National Bingo Day — although the neighbors might get a little puzzled.
2. Find a local game
Big cities and small towns throughout the U.S. still feature Bingo events. Check online for dates and times. There are plenty of new variations and winning card patterns to keep things interesting. Bingo has come a long way from straight lines.
3. Get social
If you can't make new friends during a raucous Bingo gathering, you're not trying hard enough. Barriers come down quickly when there's real money at stake. And yes, Bingo marriages happen all the time.

1. Lucky 7
Spaces include the top row — plus a diagonal row from the upper right corner to the lower left corner.
2. Arrow
This requires either the middle row or column — plus two mini-diagonals to form the shape of an arrow (nine squares in all).
3. Four Corners
This one can go quickly. Cover the four corners and you win.
4. Satellite
Thirteen spaces required — all nine inner squares plus the four corners. This would be fun if your pieces lit up.
5. Blackout
Get set for a long evening. You'll need to cover every square on the card. Hint: play this one last.

National PTSD Awareness Day
National PTSD Awareness Day is observed annually on June 27. This is a day to recognize the effects post-traumatic stress has on the lives of those affected by it.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder has a profound effect on the lives of those who suffer from it. The statistics alone are staggering, but can only tell a portion of the story. The trauma and anxiety associated with PTSD is a constant burden, inseparable from the sufferer. It was once a condition that was attributed only to returning combat veterans, but more and more the condition is diagnosed in those who have experienced violent crime or lived through catastrophic events. According to PTSD United, 20% of adults in the United States who have experienced a traumatic event suffer from PTSD.

HISTORY
The United States Senate established PTSD Awareness Day in 2010 following then-Sen. Kent Conrad’s efforts to designate a day of awareness as a tribute to Army Staff Sgt. Joe Biel of the North Dakota National Guard, Davison said. Biel suffered from PTSD and took his life in April 2007 after returning to North Dakota following his second tour of duty in the Iraq War.
Biel’s birthday, June 27, was chosen to mark PTSD Awareness Day and honor his memory.

NATIONAL ALASKA DAY
On June 28, National Alaska Day recognizes the largest state to join the union.
Not only is Alaska the largest state, but it is also home to the highest mountain peaks in the country, including Mt. Denali. In The Last Frontier, it’s possible to test the theories associated with the Bering Land Bridge. Check out the remote and intriguing location of North America’s history.
Populated by Inuit, Yupik, Tlingit, and others long before Russian and European explorers found their way to the Arctic land, Alaska supported the indigenous people with sufficient whale fat, beaver, and fish.
The Land of the Midnight Sun led to the next great gold rush. In the Yukon, many would venture into the rugged North expecting to find riches in the Klondike. Those who did would find it difficult to get it back out again…alive.
The Iditarod takes place in Alaska and runs 1150 miles from Anchorage to Nome in honor of Leonhard Seppala. In 1925, he along with several other mushers delivered much-needed anti-diphtheria serum to Nome.
The immense Denali National Park and Preserve is home to glaciers, fossil records, and a study in geology. All along the Alaska Range, the pristine wilderness provides hikers along even the most well-marked trails outstanding views and peaceful vistas.
Venture into Glacier Bay for glimpses of an icy blue you’ll see nowhere else on Earth. Listen for the rugged mountains of ice collapsing into the bay or seek the humpback whales breaking the surface. Sights and sounds of the bay as are abundant as the history.

NATIONAL PAUL BUNYAN DAY
On June 28, we remember fondly the tales of the big blue ox and a mighty lumberjack. It is National Paul Bunyan Day!
Described as a giant and a lumberjack of unusual skill, Paul Bunyan is one of the most famous North American folklore heroes. In the tales, Paul Bunyan was almost always accompanied by his companion, Babe the Blue Ox.
Was He Real?
First appearing in print in 1906, in a story published by Northern Michigan journalist James MacGillivray, Bunyan’s character originated in folktales circulated among lumberjacks in the Northeastern United States and Eastern Canada. One account states that the tales began during the Papineau Rebellion of 1837. In 1914, William Laughhead reworked the stories for a logging company’s advertising campaign. The campaign breathed new life into the growing legendary character of Paul Bunyan. It was the 1922 edition of Laughead’s tales that inspired many others and soon the character’s plaid shirt and far-fetched characteristics spread across all of the United States and Canada.
Many cities in the north-central section of the United States, claim the title as the official home of Paul Bunyan.
The Folklore
While folklore surrounded the lumberjack, Paul Bunyan is one character that has an origin story. One Paul Bunyan legend claims it took five storks to carry him as a newborn. As he grew a little older, when he clapped his hands and laughed, windows shook and shattered. The story continues that he sawed off the legs of his parents’ bed in the middle of the night when he was only seven months old. Folklore also credits Bunyan with forming the Grand Canyon as he and Babe the Blue Ox walked through dragging his axe behind him. Another myth suggests Bunyan created the Great Lakes so Bake had a watering hole.

May was election season in the 10000 Islands, and saw a great change in the make-up of the Government. Senators Jabberwocky, Twobagger and Witchcraft and Sorcery decided not to run for re-election. If citizens were hoping for exciting campaigns to find their replacements they would be let down. Flemingisa and Dominion of Compassion were elected to their seats without opposition, and Tanzoria cruised to victory against his opponent, USSR/Hahiha. All three newly elected senators represent the Mayor Shelter Political Party. A further shake-up was made with the appointment of Sargon Reman as minister of Immigration early last month, replacing the outgoing Tuga Nations Dragon.
Around the Islands
-Chief Executive Emeritus Woonsocket was commended by the Security Council for his long years of service to the region and the wider NS world, in a
resolution written by fellow Islander Sargon Reman. Congratulations Woon!
-Kortexia, Tuga Nation’s Dragon and Twobagger all received TITO promotions after reaching defending milestones.
-The Islands celebrated TITO Day on May 9th. Many exemplary Islanders were honoured with medals for their service.
-Long time islander Witchcraft and Sorcery announced he was stepping back from his roles in the 10000 Islands to pursue opportunities in The South

-The Archpileago Territory has been named Deputy Minister of Education
-The Regional Reserve named Mingulay Isle as winner of the Account of the Quarter award for Q2 2019. His reward is 75000 Tacos.
-Escanaba was recruiter of the month, with Sargon Reman and and Louisistan coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
-Vedrea, Hamletus and The Kingdom of Trivia have been selected as featured nations
-The Grand Debate Hall of the XKI University has been filled with discussion over hot button topics like Universal Basic Income, Abortion and
-Immigration and somewhat strangely, favourite numbers.
-In Taco Island, Aschente [a href="http://10000islands.proboards.com/thread/37215/rebel"]launched a rebellion[/a] against Mayor Ater Nox for not being
corrupt enough. The Mayor reacted with indignation at his credentials in the field of corruption being questioned.

[/a]Hakketomat of a crime, although it is unclear exactly when, where or why this happened.
As an additional note: Due to IRL commitments pending in August, I have determined that it is best that I stand down with our July Elections, to allow a successor to be selected. The continued work of the Delegate remains an important function within the region, one which I would not like to see unfilled especially by unavoidable absences and distraction. I hope that you know how much your support has meant to me. I plan to remain active in the region, albeit to a potentially lesser degree.

National Camera Day
Smile! National Camera Day is June 29, a day to celebrate the fact that photography, once so complicated it took a scientist to understand, is now part of our everyday lives. The word “photography” is based on two Greek words that, when put together, mean “writing with light.’” It’s a beautiful way of describing what a camera lets us do — tell a story without the use of words. It all goes back more than 800 years to the invention of the camera obscura. Meaning “dark chamber,” the camera obscura was nothing more than a box with a hole on one side. Light would pass through the hole and into the dark interior of the box, where it would project an image onto the flat inner surface. Unfortunately, when the light was gone, the image disappeared — like Instagram, but without an actual photo. Fast-forward through the centuries to today, when everyone with a smartphone has a camera at their fingertips. 1. Say cheese!
It doesn’t have to be Thanksgiving to take a family portrait. National Camera Day gives you another reason to get everyone together for a summer photo session. Who knows? It could become the new family tradition.
2. Take a safari
You don’t need a passport for this one, only enough free time to slow down and look at familiar surroundings in a new way. Been down that street a hundred times? Shoot it at different times of the day as the light changes. Love walking in the woods? Get in close and photograph the knot in a tree or a single drop of rain. Wandering around with a camera can give you a new perspective on how you see the world.
3. Get creative by scrapbooking
Photos can eat up a lot of space on your computer or, worse, deteriorate when stashed away in boxes. Clear up the clutter and organize your favorites into scrapbooks. Select photos with a specific person in mind to create a deeply personal and highly appreciated gift.

Sometimes, life gets so busy that we forget about our basic needs. It might seem like overkill, but scheduling hugs with a person you love can be an effective way to make sure that you get your hugs in!

NATIONAL METEOR WATCH DAY
National Meteor Watch Day is observed every year on June 30th. Also known as National Meteor Day, on a cloudless night, people turn their eyes to the heavens in hopes of spotting the glow of a falling star.
Daily there are millions of meteors that occur in the Earth’s atmosphere.
When space debris, such as pieces of rock, enter the earth’s atmosphere the friction causes the surrounding air to become scorching hot. This “shooting star” streaking through the sky surrounded by flaming hot air is a meteor.
The majority of the meteoroids that cause meteors are only the size of a pebble.
Meteors sometimes occur in showers. National Meteor Watch Day is an excellent time to plan for a meteor-watching party. Whether it is to catch a few stray falling stars or to watch an entire meteor shower, gathering the kids or a few friends to map the constellations while waiting to make a wish or two is sure to be a fun time.
In the Northern Hemisphere, one of the most active meteor showers is the Perseids. Named after the constellation Perseus where the majority of the activity takes place, the meteors are caused by particles released by the comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. Active from mid-July to late August, the Perseids are known to put on a dazzling display at its peak, especially when the skies are clear and the moon is new.
Meteors are usually observed at night and are visible when they are about 34 to 70 miles above the Earth, and they often disintegrated at about 31 to 51 miles above. Their glow time is usually about a second.
A small percent of meteoroids hit the Earth’s atmosphere and then skip back into space.
The chemical composition and the speed of the meteoroid will cause different hues to the light. Possible colors and elements producing them include:
Orange/yellow (sodium)
Yellow (iron)
Blue/green (copper)
Purple (potassium)
Red (silicate)

International Asteroid Day 2019
On June 30, International Asteroid Day will have everyone looking toward the skies. The holiday was founded after the 2014 release of the film 51 Degrees North, which explores what would happen if an asteroid were to strike London. The film’s creative team (many of whom are scientists) wanted to raise more awareness about the threat of asteroids to earth, and how we can help protect ourselves. To make that happen, they formed a foundation, and in 2015, they celebrated the world’s first International Asteroid Day. There are over one million asteroids in space that could potentially strike the earth, but modern scientists have only discovered about one percent of them. To combat this, Asteroid Day’s founders, as well as a host of accomplished scientists, created the 100X Asteroid Declaration. 3. Volunteer for Asteroid Day’s organizers
The holiday’s creators and organizers are in need of volunteers to help them make worldwide Asteroid Day events run smoothly. More than 700 events are expected to take place this year, and volunteers can help to set up events, create content, design graphics, and help spread the word.

I know you love your children dearly and do not want them to die an untimely death. Therefore please do everything possible to prevent hot car deaths.
Temperatures inside vehicles can quickly increase even in moderate weather. In only 70-degree weather with overcast skies, a child left in a car is at risk for heatstroke and death. Under no circumstances should a child ever be left in a car for any amount of time. Childhelp shares these five tips to prevent leaving children in the car:
1) Place an object that reminds you of your child in the front seat next to you; this will remind you they are in the back seat.
2) Place your lunch, briefcase, wallet, phone, or purse in the seat next to your child; you will need to access the back seat before leaving your car.
3) For longer trips and before driving, set an alarm on your phone to remind you to check the car.
4) Use the buddy system. Assign an adult passenger to remind you a child is in the car. This is especially helpful when infants or sleeping children are present.
5) Develop the habit of physically checking all doors upon exiting your vehicle.
If you see a child in a hot car, call 9-1-1 immediately.

I tell ya, muggers are jerks, but you still gotta hand it to them. (Laugh track!)
And thus begins another International Joke Day on July 1. Really, really, we’re glad you’re here. Where would any of us be without jokes and laughter to brighten our spirits? It can help any situation. This July 1, we invite you to take some time out of your day to recognize the important job humor plays in keeping stress at bay, building relationships, and bringing levity to a world that badly needs it. And be sure not to confuse the purpose of International Joke Day with April Fools’ Day — the two couldn’t be further apart. July 1 is all about getting a grin out of your best friend, sharing a laugh on social media, and appreciating the stand up comics who have left us in stitches for decades.
Speaking of stitches, that reminds me:
I asked the doctor the other day if I’d be able to play the piano once I got my stitches removed. “Yes,” he told me, “I imagine that won’t be a problem.” “Great,” I said. “I’ve always wanted to play a musical instrument.”
International Joke Day Activities
1. Support live comedy
One of the best ways to celebrate International Joke Day is to head out to a comedy club in your area, support the club and its comedians, and get a hearty dose of laughter while you’re at it. Perhaps it’s a local, small club with up-and-coming comedians, or an established business that attracts top talent. Either way, your support means we’ll have a steady stream of one liners rolling out for years to come.
2. Learn a joke
Telling a good joke is a lot harder than memorizing a few words. It takes timing, reading your audience, delivery, articulation, and experience. So, why not take this holiday as an opportunity to learn - and practice - a joke? Consider the context in which you might use it, practice the delivery, and test it out with your friends. If it floats, you’ve got a joke in your back pocket you can pull out at any awkward dinner party.
3. Take a break from the news
In today’s 24-hour news cycle, it’s sometimes overwhelming to try to keep up. For one day on July 1, perhaps try avoiding the news, and instead, read humor pieces in any of the country’s leading newspapers. Or, you can of course find the internet’s best comedy on sites like Reddit, Buzzfeed, The Onion, or any of your preferred sources. Who knows what could be accomplished if we all shared a good sidesplitting laugh, even if just for a day.

1.They're good for our bodies
We’ve all heard laughter is the best medicine, but did you know there’s scientific evidence to back that up? Studies have shown laughing has far reaching positive effects for the mind and body. It gives the immune system a boost by decreasing stress hormones, it improves heart health by increasing blood flow, and can even burn calories.
2. They bring us all together
Every country has its own unique set of humor, and July 1 is the perfect time to share that piece of culture. No matter what differences we have, we still all love having a great belly laugh in good company. International Joke Day reminds us that humor is human, and that binds us together.
3. They're totally human
Humans have been telling jokes for nearly as long as we’ve had civilization. While some scholars believe it was the ancient Greeks who told the first jokes, others say they can trace it back to the Sumerians nearly 4,000 years ago. And the most common joke material throughout the ages? Let’s just say they told bawdy jokes, in every sense of the word.
Wimbledon
Wimbledon, the oldest and most prestigious tennis championship in the world, begins this year on July 1 and ends on July 14. The London-based event takes place on grass — the only Grand Slam event to do so. Both the Australian Open and the US Open are hardcourt events; Roland Garros (the French Open) occurs on clay. The Wimbledon draw consists of 128 men and and 128 women in the singles events, as well as 64 men’s and women’s doubles teams each. Ashleigh Barty and Novak Djokovic (above) are the top seeds, but get set for plenty of surprises at the All England Club.
Wimbledon quirks: Strict fashion rules require all players to wear white — and players do not compete on the “middle Sunday” of the event (July 7 this year).

Ball girls, too
Prior to this, Wimbledon used only ball boys chosen from a particular school. Today both boys and girls are selected — and come from a wide array of local schools. They may serve up to five times if chosen.
2009
Retractable roof
To protect players and fans from rain and/or excessive heat during the Championships, the roof is installed and takes roughly 20 minutes to close. The roof sees action on the first day of the 2009 tournament.

Roger Federer breaks a record
Federer, arguably the best men's tennis player ever, picks up his eighth Gentlemen's Singles title. He'll go for number nine this summer.
Wimbledon Activities
1. Strawberries and cream
A traditional treat of The Championship, fans consume nearly 75,000 pounds of strawberries each year. Don't go that crazy, but a couple pints of strawberries (and cream) are a nice summer treat anyway.
2. Outdoor viewing party
Tennis action will be pretty consistent for two full weeks. Set up an outdoor screen, fire up the BBQ and relax while others show off their athletic prowess.
3. Take a tennis lesson
This sport isn't nearly as easy as it looks. There's a reason some players grunt with every shot. Put on your brave face — and lots of sunscreen — and head down to the local courts to try your (back)hand.

“Age waivers for non-prior service enlistments are very rare. Generally, these are approved for those who started the enlistment process within the required age limits but were unable to complete the process and ship to basic training before their birthday. In these cases, only a couple of months of age was waived. However, in a world of the increased need for certain skills, the military will waive prospective candidates and even recruit people with language, cyber, medical, or other skills to name a few.”
So that means other than in mitigating circumstances, a person who is over the enlistment age is much more likely to receive an age waiver to enlist if they have skills that are badly needed by the military.

Sikorsky SH-3 or CH-54
Hughes 300 (269) or 500
(Actually, the Hughes 300 or 269 is little more than a mosquito with a big engine. Might be a little cramped.)
