But I would need your help, all. If you're interested, grab your slice of the directionally correct flat map below and scribble in what'll indicate to me the locations and relative sizes of major cities in your nation, if indeed you have any. Feel free also to mark highways, national monuments, etc. Shoot it at me in a telegram; I'll finish it up and synthesize it with whatever others I receive. Participants will be kept updated at my typical snail's pace. Cheers.

This is seriously the most impressive dispatch I have seen both in content and in graphics. 🤩 WOW! 🤩

I'm afraid we don't have the bright lights and big cities shown in the earth at night graphic -- especially in the winter when we're resting in our ice dens. I'd like to claim the circled area as my territory:

Could you put the capital city Jabberwocky at the bottom of the country and the higher ground at the top The Jubjub mountains if that possible, many thanks.

This Nations interesting (boring) Story

I tried to get two friends interested in nationstates one of them suggested the region be named Jabberwocky and we had a founding nation we all had the password to.

After a while we had a nation named Vandral join us who was interested in the Jabberwocky poem, after a while when Vandral died I made this nation Vandrel to keep the numbers up, only later I discovered Vandral is a drug for treating depression, my friends only playing for my sake dropped out and I ended up here. . . . <snip> . . .

Your experience is interesting to me because I, too, followed a group of people here and stayed on after they had lost interest and allowed their nations to die.

Have I misunderstood about the map? I thought our territories had been allotted and we were just positioning cities/landmarks etc....

This is correct. May I ask what led you to suspect otherwise?

Alright, friendly reminder to all: As stated in the dispatch, gray zones - those that are numerically labelled - are all that's available for resettlement. Colored areas are occupied and will not be transferred or altered in any way without the written approval of the occupant whose name they bear.

Sometimes gray zones change shape, collide, emerge from nowhere, or disappear entirely. This will never happen to your lands without your express approval nor to a gray zone that's been claimed and is pending resettlement.

Each of us gets one plot only. I can't let you gobble up all the gray. In the past we've done role plays wherein our nations engage with the grays' native and/or neutral populations in various ways, but anymore we never actually colonize and take them out of play. When you move, your previous holdings go gray. Anyone can do this up to once per month.

Other ways in which we've shaped the world:

If you'd like to unconditionally abandon some of your territory (i.e., let it go gray) that is fine too.

If you'd like to divide your territory among non-sovereign puppet nations, you may! Just please move them all to The Arctic.

If you'd like specific changes made to your current holdings - A new mountain here, a new valley there - send me a telegram with your plans and we'll work it out.

Perhaps you'd like to trade places with a neighbor. That might be arranged as well. But again, I'll need the go ahead from its current occupant. <- This'd be a new one!

It's your map and I won't pretend I've thought of everything. Generally speaking just be in touch and we'll get you taken care of.

Hey thanks for sharing this. I too outlasted a friend that played. Though we didn't have anything to do with each other in-game. The idea for The Merry Christmas stems from a distaste for the commercialization of the holiday. It was to be a satirical dystopia where that story of hope arising from darkness was gradually but totally replaced by a far more materialist message cultivated by omnipotent corporate overlords. I've grown up a bit since its founding, but thankfully the joke is pretty timeless and I think I'll keep it up about as long as I'm able. Dreaming up my chrismasites' lifestyle and values over the years probably partly inspired my interest in philosophy and the origins of evil. Not everything one learns in that vein is appropriate for cheeky Christmas Town, but world building here can still be good exercise.

As you might have guessed, it wasn't my first choice for a name but we've made do.

Hi,

You've laid claim to two gray zones.

By long tradition, each of us only controls one of these spots at a time. Constraining our appetites in this way just seems to be the simplest and fairest method of sustaining variety without contriving new gray space.

If you have an argument to the contrary, let's hear it. Otherwise, please let me know which single territory you'd prefer to settle.

I’ll take 4. However, if my prior knowledge is correct, last time I was claiming land in this region, I was, in fact, able to claim both areas. I hope you take this into account. Adios.

Well thankfully I keep everything. What I've got doesn't exactly support this, but hear me out: On the map's first ever iteration, you occupied what's now 4 and a piece of 3, and you'd hold that place for several maps to come. These early versions of course predated the need for labeling gray space since everyone's first homes had been assigned by me just based on world census data and what lore we'd published. Some time later, when a sudden influx of newcomers made trying to describe territory extra tedious, the labels were introduced, and with them the rule of one plot per player. This was while you'd been away and your turf gone gray, as sometimes happens. What had been Carpaya was at this time divided to make headway for these newcomers, though it was never inhabited by them.

Upon your return, you wanted the space back (and then some), and the following appeared on our board on and after 03/17/2018 (Note none of the numbers mentioned in this exchange signified then what they do today):

Carpaya wrote:5 6 and 7 gimme em cuz they are mine

The merry christmas wrote:I'm sorry, are you saying you'd like to claim gray zones 5, 6, and 7? Check the dispatch again. New rules for claims mean you get one at a time. Which one would you prefer? Stick around and you'll have it come April 1st. (FYI: the record shows you've only ever occupied what are now 5 and 6.)

Carpaya wrote:I will get 4 then.

I can produce the old graphics for reference if you'd like. But yeah I told you then what I'm telling you now, and your people resolved to move to a far off island upon which would break the terrible Carpayan Civil War.

If some Man van Vredes harbor resentment over their original home being split up in this way, setting them many months adrift in search of regional recognition, well, that's understandable. How's 3, just for now? Then stay tuned and see if there aren't corrections made to the homeland before the following update. ;)

Thanks for voicing your suspicion and the trip through time. Hasta la vista.

Plek van Vrede is less related to Carpaya than others of my operation. Thanks for 3 bro, appreciate it. As for the Man van Vredes harboring some form of resentment, don’t worry, most people happen to be from a different regime and fled here. For the few that came from the old era, they mostly hated the old regime. Thanks bro.
