The USA literally has freedom of expression in its constitution. We have CPUSA (communism in america), and NSM (national socialist movement, disgusting) as political parties. In other words, no, it is not illegal to be communist in the usa…that is dictatorship, nazi-like stuff to not be allowed to be communist in a country.

it's not technically illegal to be a communist in the U.S, but your response is really overestimating the amount of freedom the U.S allows. the government cracks down on "violent extremists" (read: any leftist protest or movement) every chance it gets, and the state is actively sliding more and more towards fascism. the constitution's remark about "freedom of speech" doesn't really hold up anywhere in the country. it's effectively utilized as "freedom for conservatives to oppress everyone else."

Ok, I was just wondering since in the Wikipedia article of the Communist Control Act of 1954, it never said it was repealed. Then again maybe I didn't look hard enough.

side note, i have read that you can be denied citizenship status if you have been a member of, or affiliated with, the communist party (or any "similar totalitarian party" (lol)), so that is definitely still on the books.
