Hey all.
I've done some research on Challenges and it turns out the Levelling system is based off two main contributing factors:

  • 1) Challenge points. You earn these through victories. A new level is unlocked at certain milestones, although I'm not sure of the exact values.

  • 2) Nation Badges. These are the ones displayed in your nation's page, when you are ranked from between top 10% upwards.

What does this mean?
Basically, we can use this to our advantage to pick ideal challenges to take. alternatively you can be Blatter Land at level 60 somehow like bro holy moly
For example: If a nation has relatively high level with low Championship Points, then be very, very scared because they will likely have lots of badges and so large sectors in which they have good scoring.
Conversely, if a nation has high level but also lots of Points, they might not have so many perfect badges but moderate scoring in a variety of sectors

A final note, you can sometimes (sometimes) make use of a nation's specialty given some logically contradict other badges that are potentially available for you. (i.e.: if a nation has 'Ignorance' selected as their specialty, it is unlikely that they will have high scoring in Intelligence.) For this reason it's wisest to choose specialties which do not have opposites. or again just be Blatter Land

Yes, i have been doing this too. My nation is one of those with not many badges but like 4,000 champion points. however, i do pick my specialty wisely, i will look at the oposing nations stats and / or page, if they have a badge for 'Rudest citizens' then i will choose 'Compassion' as my speciality, which as you said before contradicts theirs, therefore i am more likely to win -> 🏆

My influence is apprentice, don't know what that means

The Crags of Tel-naeir you cannot silence me that easily

shut up aidan
