Overview

The Social Republic of Indian Empire, better known as simply Indian Empire, is a Republic located in the middle of the ocean. It is bordered on all sides by Ocean, and does not have any land borders with a country. Indian Empire consists of the main island, Storø (Danish for "Big Island"), which is home to much of the national population, and is the southernmost island. Indian Empire also holds two other islands, Lilleø (Danish for "Small Island") and Nordøen (Danish for "North Island"). Nordøen is the 2nd largest island and constitutes the 2nd highest population, with the island holding 4 of Indian Empire's 50 largest cities and 1 of the top 10. Lilleø is also notable in having 2 top 50 cities and 1 top 25 city. Indian Empire has 37 States and 1 Capital District. The islands are quite diverse geographically, with the south island being mostly desert and plains with the Brix Mountains covering much of the Northern Coast. Forested areas are common along the Northwest Coast. Lilleø is mostly plains with some forested areas. Nordøen is the most forested island of the three, with a small mountain range against the southern coastline. Indian Empire is home to 55,672,919 people as of the 2012 Empirean Census, and controls roughly 300,000 square miles, most of which is land.

The islands that are now Indian Empire were originally settled by Danish settlers in the early 1600's. Indian Empire remained a part of the Danish Colonial Empire for nearly 300 years before gaining independence from the Danish in 1962. Indian Empire, since this point, has remained neutral in most global conflicts and focused on reforms at home, becoming the world's largest example of working "Social Democracy", which has created a highly regarded "welfare state" and a highly developed, mixed economy.

The Democratically Elected Government in Indian Empire has remained undisturbed since independence in 1962. The Government and Parliament are seated in Povlsen, the Capital and Largest City in Indian Empire.

Emperians are typically amongst the happiest in the world, with high income inequality and the lowest level of corruption in the world, along with one of the highest income levels in the world and one of the highest tax rates in the world.

Etymology

The name "Indian Empire" reportedly originates from several terms- the native emperians that settled the island were honored with the first part of the name, and the Colonial Status and previous Empire ruled by the Danish for nearly 300 years, ending in 1962.

History

Indian Empire was first inhabited by small, tribal groups of Native Emperians several thousand years ago. These people were hunter gatherers, hunting for bears, deer, bird, and other land mammals, and picking many varieties of berries. Eventually, explorer Ole Kirkegaard discovered the islands in 1594. The Danish saw the archipalego as very strategic and a good location to hold. The Danish began a colony in Indian Empire in 1603 at Povlsen, the current Emperian Capital and the oldest city in Indian Empire. The Danish continued to spread across the archipelago, conquering the entire set of islands officially in 1626. The Native Emperians, as was typical for the time, were mistreated, and some were kept as slaves, others executed. A small native population still remains, but is much smaller than the nearly 5 million that populated the archipelago at one time.

During the Napoleonic Wars, French diplomats came to the colonial Indian Empire, a colony of the Danish, resulting in a small French minority in Indian Empire. Indian Empire also became a detainment point for French ambassadors after the Napoleonic War. Briefly in 1849, riots occurred on the streets of Povlsen and Hjaremaal, requesting parliamentary representation or independence, however the rebellion was quickly smashed by Danish military forces. Denmark, and thus Indian Empire, was neutral during World War One, however, the Danish Government chose Indian Empire as an exile location for the Government in hiding, and appointed Povlsen as the temporary capital until 1945, when Denmark was liberated by Allied forces.

Upon Independence in 1962, the Emperians quickly stated Neutrality in the Cold War, however, relied on mainly the United States for protection, thus was considered by many to side with the Capitalists. Ultimately, the Soviet Union stayed away, and as the cold war ended, US forces gradually left Indian Empire, but have promised they will come to Emperian Aid in the event of a war.

Geography

Indian Empire consists of a wide vareity of geographical features. Indian Empire has two main mountain ranges, one along the northern coastline, and one, smaller mountain range along the southeastern coast. The result is a Mediterranean climate along the Northern Coastline and Southeastern Coastline. The Northern coast is widely regarded as one of the most comfortable places in Indian Empire, as it rarely gets super cold and is mostly dry. The Southeast coast has a similar climate, but is wetter. The Highest Point in Indian Empire, Mount Stoorgaard at 18,276 feet above sea level, is in the Northern Mountain Range. The Northwestern corner of Storø, the biggest island, is very forested. A lot of nature reserves are in this area. However, this area is very remote, and can get chilly (by Empirean standards, anyway) and most who live in the region live along the coastline. The Eastern Half of Storø is mainly a desert, with scorching hot temperatures and chilly nighttime temperatures. This region used to be mostly inhabited along the coastline, but this has changed with the invention of air conditioning in the 1960's. The region has since became home to four of Indian Empire's largest Twenty-Five cities, including one (Saltune) in the top ten. Occasionally, the desert air will become misplaced or expand, causing extremely hot temperatures to surge over the mountains into the Northern or Southeastern coastline- but this is rare and happens once every 5 to 10 years or so. Most of the rest of Storø is flatland and very arable. This is where most of the food supply is grown and where the greatest variation in seasonal climate exists. The area is vulnerable to natural disasters, with tornadoes and the occasional tropical cyclone impact. The two secondary islands are mainly forested, with the North Island, Nordøen, also having a small mountain range.

Demographics

Indian Empire has a population of 55,672,919 people as of 2012, ranking near the middle of the pack of the recognized world. 653,788 babies were born in Indian Empire last year, a birth rate of 11.74 Babies per 1,000 people. The population growth rate is about 0.52%. The largest ancestry groups in Indian Empire are overwhelmingly Danish, followed by Mexican, Korean, Swedish, and French. Indian Empire is a majority-minority country, with 49% of the population being Caucasian, followed by 35% Hispanic, 10% Asian, 3% African, 2% Bi-Racial, and 1% Native Emperian, Pacific Islander, or other.

Indian Empire has two official languages: Danish and English. The two languages are near even, with 47% speaking Danish as a first language, in comparison to 46% for English. The next common language is Spanish, spoken by roughly 4% of the Population. Emperians are commonly bilingual in both Danish and English, as both are taught in schools.

A majority of people in Indian Empire, 57%, are Atheists. Beyond this, 17% are Jewish, and 16% are Christian. The next largest group, Buddhism, is followed by 5 percent. The Constitution of Indian Empire allows for religious freedom, and discrimination based on religion is illegal.

Health

A survey conducted in 2014 concluded that a large chunk of the Population is classified as "healthy", with 95% fitting within the proper Body Mass Index Category for their weight. However, due to alterations to the BMI scale from the US Version by Empirean Scholar and Scientist Alexander Henningsen, the healthy BMI is classified as a 14.1 to 17 as opposed to 18 to 25. 4% of the Empirean population is underweight, with a small 1% being classified as "overweight". The Life Expectancy in Indian Empire is 90.7 years old, ranking Indian Empire #2 in the world, only behind Monaco.

Indian Empire has a universal health care system, covering all medically necessary expenses for all citizens of Indian Empire. Travelers may also use the healthcare system at no cost. The Universal Healthcare system was created in 1983 by the 2nd Prime Minister of Indian Empire, Poul Villadsen.

Education

Indian Empire has a renowned education system, noted for being one of the best education systems in the world. The Government operates the schools, which are public and have open enrollment. Per Emperian Law, schools cannot start before September 1st and end after May 31st.

Students typically start Primary School at age 6, and remain in it until age 11 (Year 1 to Year 6). Secondary School covers Years 6 to 11, and is from 11 to 16 years old. There are no final exams, however, you must take a graduation exam at the end of Year 11 in order to get entry into college and officially graduate from Secondary School. College is free, optional, and typically runs from age 16 to age 20. Dropping out of Primary or Secondary School is not permitted, thus, the completion rate of Secondary school is 100%, with College Completion Rate at roughly 77%. Schools typically teach both Danish and English, as both are main languages. Students are required to take one foreign language in Primary School, with the most common choices being Spanish and Korean.

Government

The Social Republic of Indian Empire is a Parliamentary Democracy, where representatives are elected to represent the people. The Emperian Constitution, passed in 1962 just days after independence, is the document which outlines the structure of the empirean government. The document was influenced by the constitutions of the United States and Denmark. The Nation has three levels of government: Local, Provincial, and National.

The Local Governments are in charge of police, fire, and other local services.

The State Government is in charge of Education and Infrastructure.

The National Government, with three national branches and headquartered in Povlsen, Capital District, is the highest level of the Empirean Government. It is responsible for security, healthcare, and foreign policy. It passes legislation and guarantees equal rights to all regardless of race, gender, sex, appearance, or religion. The National Government has three main branches:

Executive: Headed by the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister appoints nominees to the Supreme Court (in the event of a death or similar), appoints his cabinet, and can veto legislative bills.

Legislative: Consists of the House of Legislators (Upper House) and the People's Council (Lower House). Creates and passes legislative bills, controls the budget, and approves treaties.

Judicial: Consists of the Supreme Court and other minor courts. Interprets the law.

Elections for the Prime Minister occur every five years, starting from 1962. Prime Ministers are limited to two five year terms. Parliamentary Elections occur every five years as well, however, the first Parliamentary election was held in 1964, meaning the next Parliamentary Election will be in 2019. Parliamentary Members are limited to four 5-year terms. The Judicial branch holds an election roughly every 20 years, with an unlimited number of terms.

The current Congress, the 11th Congress of Indian Empire, beginning in 2014, currently has the Social Democrat in control of both houses, holding the House of Legislators by a 64 to 50 margin, and holding the People's Council by a 111 to 89 margin.

The Current Prime Minister of Indian Empire, the 8th in Indian Empire's history, is Malthe Hjorth (born March 3, 1984), who took office in the 2017 Prime Minister Election over Moderate Ivar Graversen.

Indian Empire operates under a large mixed economy. The GDP is 1,282,362,721,529.86 (or roughly 1.2 Trillion Krone), resulting in a GDP Per Capita of roughly 42,302.79 krone. This ranks Indian Empire 14th in the World for GDP and 27th in the World in GDP Per Capita. Roughly 2/3rds of the economy is privately owned, with 59% of the economy being privately owned. The Government Owns the remaining 41%, with about 3.8% being Industry. Unemployment in Indian Empire is extremely low, at 1.9%, mainly due to Government Law, which guarantees a Government job so long as employment is above 1%. Indian Empire is one of the few "self dependent" countries in the world, with little debt. Indian Empire imports roughly 149 Billion krone worth of goods every year, in comparison to 160 Billion krone worth of goods in exports, leading to a nearly 11 Billion krone trade surplus.

Book Publishing, Trout Fishing, and Information Technology are the three largest industries in Indian Empire.

Culture

Indian Empire has a vast amount of culture, with many traditions. Emperian culture is typically considered European, originating from Scandinavia, Denmark in particular, and is typically considered "Western". Indian Empire tends to be a cultural melting pot, similar to other North American countries.

Emperians tend to be very hardworking, competitive, and caring. Economic Productivity is overall high due to this attitude, and work is not rushed as Emperians place a big emphasis on doing work correctly. Indian Empire is a one of the most common tourist destinations in the world, and a popular destination for immigrants (however, it is hard to become an Emperian Citizen). Emperians are believers in equality, and do not discriminate based off gender, religion, sexual orientation, and race, and also do not believe certain social classes should have power over others.

Cuisine

Cuisine in Indian Empire comes mostly from the Denmark originally, however, American Cuisine has been steadily rising in popularity due to trade with the United States since independence in 1962. Pizza is one of the most liked foods in Indian Empire, and is sometimes regarded as "The Pizza Capital of the World". Common Emperian dishes include Pizza, Tacos, Salad, and Subs.

Sports

Emperians are very enthusiastic about sports, and most Emperians like at least one sport. Indian Empire is home to many professional sports leagues. The most popular sports are Basketball, Gridiron, and Football, each with a substantially large following. Golf, Baseball, and Tennis are also somewhat popular, though not to the degree that the three most popular sports are. Indian Empire typically does well during the summer olympics, excelling in Football and Basketball. Indian Empire was 5th in the medal count at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Infrastructure

Indian Empire mainly relies on roads for short distance travel, however long distance travel is typically done through the Emperian High-Speed Rail System (EHSRS), which began construction in 2004 under Prime Minister Kent Lund. The System is now mostly complete, with the last wing from Saltune along the coast to Vesterskov, scheduled for completion in 2020. Some Provinces also build Rail systems in highly populated/congested areas, which are in turn connected to the original rail system. Transportation between islands, when needed, is typically done through boat ferries, which run from island to island. Flights are also common, especially to international destinations. Individually Metropolitian Areas in Indian Empire do tend to offer public transportation.
