FanT Equipment and Uniforms

Nerocite

The first thing that needs to be talked about when thinking about Exilvania in FanT terms is Nerocite, a mineral already used in the times of the Iron Legion to fuel it's warmachine. It is a crystal of a blackish-purple colour. Once infused or come into contact with any kind of energy, it starts to glow in bright purple. So this is basically the supermaterial of the Exilvanians. It is extremely versatile and over the ages the Exilvanians have uncovered many of the secrets of this highly unstable material. So far, outside of the Exilvanians' homeplanet, few Nerocite veins have been found and if they have been, the Exilvanians soon turn up there themselves to claim them for their bloody war machinery.

In the days of the Iron Legion, when Nerocite research had not yet progressed too far, it was used as a fuel for the vehicles of the Legion. However, already back then the mineral was weaponized. The battlefields of old were quickly haunted by the images of screeching Nerocite Flamethrowers, burning the flesh of the Legion's enemies from their bones as well as by Anti-Tank rockets filled with pressurized Nerocite that would easily penetrate up to 300 mm of armour. Chemically altered supersoldiers walking across the battlefields nigh unstoppable killing machines. And those were just the inventions in the infant stage of the Nerocite research. You can imagine how quickly things escalated.

The Exilvanians Empire for instance managed to create the Ghosgen Gas from it, an acidic gas that would melt/disintegrate flesh, bones, clothing and even light, wearable armour and even had a tendency to self combust. It was a terrifying weapon on the battlefield and very effective as the gas quickly disappeared in contact with oxygen, making it perfect for tactical use. Though less perfect for strategic uses but for that scientists later in the Dictatorship of Exilvania developed the Ghosgen-(II)-azit, which would take much longer to disperse and disintegrate in the air. The Exilvanians also continued development of rockets with Nerocite warheads, gradually perfecting this technologic branch. Another great invention is the fusion of Nerocite with Steel, creating the Nerferro-(III)-Carbonat. Much like Thermosets it has to be given it's form during the fusion process as it, once hardened, becomes incredibly difficult and ressource-consuming to mold it into a new shape. It has proven itself in extensive military tests as perfect armour against enemy shells. A Nerocitesteel plate provides much better protection than a armoured steel plate of similar weight and thickness.

I mentioned that Nerocite was used as fuel, yes? Well, over time it was not just fuel anymore and became the main energy supplier. Most electrical devices in Exilvania are powered by Nerocite or energy won from Nerocite. So yeah, it goes on and on, the Exilvanian society and state almost completely reliant on that mineral. Hm, reminds me also that with the advent of better armour and deadlier shells, Exilvania has looked into Nerocite fillers for Artillery Shells and nearly a century later even for Small Arms, increasing the effectiveness of these weapons by a lot. Range, muzzle velocity, penetration and damage were greatly increased, allowing Exilvania to stay relatively competitive without wasting ressources in embarking in laser, plasma and other weapon technology research.

Now to the final major use of the Nerocite Mineral is in biology, specifically in Genetics. The first thing created in that sector was the drug NerEx which helped a lot with quickly building up muscle mass but also led to great disfigurement. Don't understand me wrong, everything is alright but it looks terrible. In the Dictatorship, NerEx was further perfected to increase resilience and stamina as well as to further decrease the time needed to build up muscle mass and further genetical research was done with the mineral, leading eventually to Prototype XZ-0012, a superhuman in all regards and without any drawbacks. Well, so the Exilvanian scientists being part of the "Johrdel"-Program thought but it turned out that the specimen was not pleased with having been imprisoned and experimented upon and turned the whole facility into a literal slaughterhouse before blowing it up. Efforts have been made to recapture the prototype and also to continue research but XZ-0012 has so far successfully evaded capture and the new researchers were never able to replicate the success of the first research team. Besides, both these genetic modifications as well as NerEx are expensive, especcially the modifications which is why their production is very limited.

That accounts for most Nerocyte stuff that I can think off right now I believe.

Infantry Uniforms and Equipment

Link The exilvanian Rifle Grunt
The Exilvanian Rifle Grunts make up the rank and file of the Infantillerie of the Exilvanian Ground Forces. Despite their odd looks and their colourful uniforms, they are not to be underestimated. They are equipped with "Bag Head" gasmasks and their uniforms provide full protection against the hostile environment of their homeland. The visors of the gasmask sport an integrated heat vision mode. The Rifle Grunts are usually equipped with an MP-XL, a simple yet reliable assault rifle with a removable stock, as well as a Lutscher X08 as sidearm and several Stick Grenades as well as a combat dagger. Their large backpacks contain equipment for survival of up to two weeks in their hostile homeland but the equipment can be applied to nearly any other terrain as well. While one would think of the MP-XL as submachinegun just from its looks, it actually fulfill the requirements for an assault rifle and has a reinforced barrel for extended firing. The uniforms vary slightly between the Army and ZZ Reserve. Where the army utilizes yellow shoulder pads and black collar tab markings, the ZZ Reserve utilizes red shoulder pads and silver collar tab markings.

Now please, really don't underestimate these soldiers. They may not look like it, but they are incredibly deadly. It comes mainly from their race. The Exilvanians, in their own mythology, were once human who had dared to side with the wrong side in a heavenly war between godly forces. When their patrons were defeated, they had the extreme luck of being exiled and imprisoned together with their gods in the lands that are now Exilvania. And while their gods were locked away much more securely then they were, their mere presence alone was enough to have a lasting impact on the Exilvanians and the land around them. They shaped the Exilvanians slowly over the span of several millennia into becoming their perfect warriors. They warped their minds, filled them with vile desires for destruction, slaughter and oppression and smashed their moral compasses. They enhanced their bodies far beyond those of mere mortal humans. The common Exilvania now has nigh perfect night vision, great hearing, very good sight, a high toxin resistance, incredible strength, speed and stamine and incredible regenerative powers. They were modeled closely after one of their gods, turned into something that is like a vampire, yet at the same time not. They are still capable of normal reproduction but they seem to be nearly incapable of aging once having reached their prime. Due to this version of the Exilvanian race existing not even 300 years so far, it is not sure how long they can live like this. It is also notable that while the preferred food of the common Exilvanian is raw meat or blood, they are very much capable of eating and digesting normal food which can actually sustain them. In terms of drawbacks and actual weakness we have the sun, which is their greatest enemy, not killing but weakening them. Hence why they tend to wear full protective gear to cover every piece of their body. Silver is poisonous for them when it comes into contact with their blood. Garlic leads to a slow and painful death when digested. As footsoldiers of the eternal darkness and enemies of nearly all gods, prayers and religious symbolism are despised by them, weakening and enraging them at the same time.

The Veteran Program

The Veteran Program is aimed at utilizing the best, most effective and most experienced soldier of the Exilvanian army and enhancing them beyond the boundaries of mere Rifle Grunts. For the purpose of this, the drug NerEx is used. NerEx is a drug developed by Nicht Färben GmBh during the reign of Kaiser Vlad and used to strengthen and increase the bone and muscle mass of the soldier as well as develop a very strong resistance against toxic environments. So basically the aim is to create supersoldiers even more terrifying than the standard troopers who'd also have no problem at all fighting and living on the Exilvanian home turf or any other hostile environment. Of course, the usage of the drug also comes with drawbacks. Those who went through the extensive NerEx treatment are disfigured for life and exhibit violent tendencies.

NerEx is a drug created y Nicht Färben from the ressource Nerocite. The origins of this drug lie far back in the past, already in ancient Exilvanian times. Nerocite had always been used in various roles, among them also as combat stimulant or enjoyment drug in pure grounded or liquified form. It was with the rise of the Iron Legion that Nerocite started being properly weaponized, at first only as fuel as well as incinerating ressource and as filler for rockets but soon Lord Ferrok started experimenting on his elite troops, administering pure Nerocite directly into their bloodstream. These experiments worked out for the most part, mainly due to the especcially resistant physique of the old Exilvanians, creating the first breed of artificially created super soldiers to walk the earth. However, the destruction of the Iron Tower and most of the Iron Legion annihilated all of these super soldiers and every trace of the Iron Lord's scientific projects was wiped from the face of the earth, leaving later generations of Exilvanian scientists with the task to start from square one.

When Exilvania grew in strength again and prospered under the rule of Kaiser Vlad, he employed one of the largest and most successful pharmaceutical and chemical corporations in Exilvania, the Nicht Färben GmBh, to replicate and refine the formula with which the old super soldiers had been created. A monumental task but with the advances in technology and the better understanding of Nerocite, the Nicht Färben GmBh soon managed to show results to the Kaiser. A much more refined way of administering the Nerocite to soldiers with a lot less drawbacks and a lot less risks involved. The NerEx drug and the long and careful treatment of patients. Now, before you ask why the entire army didn't go through the Veteran program so that I could have an army of Super Soldiers...well...NerEx is expensive, the treatment is expensive and takes a long time. Besides, not everyone wants to end up big and ugly. This is why the treatment is only offered to Veterans who have proven that they are worthy of being upgraded as well as willing to do so.

Veterans serve as specialized heavy hitting forces for the Exilvanian Armed Forces. They are easily recognizable by their large stature as well as their heavy, and short leather trenchcoats and often very creative headgear. They serve for instance as LinkRocket Veterans so basically AT specialists equipped with Schreckensfaust rocket launchers enabling them to effectively engage enemy vehicles at respectable distances. Or the LinkAcid Gas Veterans which are equipped with Ghosgen Gas Throwers, an acidic gas of a green colour which is also prone to spontaneous self combustion, hence why it is kept under very high pressure in the gas tanks. Luckily, Ghosgen Gas reacts with Oxide fairly quickly, rendering it harmless within a mere minute of exposing it to air. Next up we'd have the LinkXN-16 Ack-Ack Veterans, in essence, men capable of carrying and firing the heavy Flakker I MANPADSs. The Flakker I fires 4 surface to air homing missiles with a range of over 5 km. Yet another Veteran often seen in the Exilvanian Armed Forces is the LinkGrenade Veteran who specializes in the use of hand held grenade launchers. Now you could say, yeah, other people have that too. See, what this veteran uses is better described as an 81mm handheld mortar with fairly high range and very explosive capabilities. These veterans are invaluable in urban environments. Last but not least I must cover the LinkMinigun Veteran. He is by far the most common veteran trooper found in the Exilvanian Army next to the Rocket Trooper and wields the heavy "Barrel Organ" Spanzow Minigun, often dubbed Vlad's Buzzsaw.

Ground Vehicles

LinkThe Vladswaggen
The Vladswaggen started its carrier as a cheap car for the people produced by the Vampfvaggen corporation. Of course not for the enjoyment of the people but rather to increase productivity by enabling everyone some form of motorization to use. However, due to a critical shortage of light vehicles in service with the armed forces, the Kaiser forced Vampfvaggen to fork off some production lines for the military and upgrade the vehicle to meet military standards. Thus the Vladswaggen I was born and used in the first Battalion Wars. In essence the car had been equipped with a machinegun turret, light armour plating as well as strong communications equipment and it was mainly used as a light reconnaissance car. Prior to the Second Battalion Wars, several upgrades were made. The Comms Equipment was upgraded, a hull mounted machinegun was added and the engine was improved. Final improvements were made after the war and the vehicle became the Vladswaggen III. Comms and Recon Equipment was upgraded/added, the armour plating was replaced with Nerocitesteel, the engine was upgraded once more as well as the suspension and nowadays the vehicle has a broad variety of possible weapons it can be outfitted with. ATGMSs, MANPADSs, Mortars etc.

LinkThe Vladspanzerwaggen
The Vladspanzerwaggen is the standard armoured personnel carrier of the Exilvanian Armed Forces. Its development started already during the Second Battalion Wars when the need for actually protected infantry transports with certain self defense capabilities became a very glaring problem that could not be solved by slapping steel plates onto the previously used Obel Plitz trucks of the army. Hence why Vampfvaggen, which had supplied the army with a very good utility vehicle aka the Vladswaggen, was tasked with creating a cheap and quick to produce armoured personnel carrier for the army. It was in a way a completely new project for Vampfvaggen, who had never before attempted to create anything like that, anything that was supposed to carry more people than a simple family. Or something tracked for that matter. Which was the reason why the development phase was very long. A multitude of prototypes had to be created and scrapped because they didn't even come close to fitting army requirements. Eventually, the Second Battalion Wars ended, effectively ending the project. However, when order was restored to Exilvania, the project was picked up once more because the need for an armoured personnel carrier had not disappeared and now that the army was in a major reorganisation phase, was the time to bring this project to fruition. It led to the eventual creation of the Vladspanzerwaggen I which despite many flaws, was a working design and was thus accepted and mass produced to refit the armed forces.

LinkThe Übelmeister II
The Übelmeister II is one of the oldest tanks in the Exilvanian arsenal and has served the nation for so long that it is nearly useless by now. It is an outdated tank by all means. Back when it was developed, over 70 years ago, it wa the cream of the crop. Or almost. It featured a decent armour protection and speed for its time, was fairly reliable and had an automated turret with an autoloader and an incredibly well protected crew. But already back then the tank was flawed. It was intended as an infantry support tank and was thus outfitted with a short R55 cannon to lob HE shells at enemy infantry and fortified positions. When the first enemy tanks showed up on the battlefield, the Übelmeister was very quick to be defeated. Exilvanian Scientists and Engineers struggled long and hard to make the tank more useful but their efforts bore no fruits and so it was decided after the First Battalion Wars, that the tank should stay in its intended role and simply retreat when encountering enemy armour. Still, the tank had to be capable of defending itself, hence why a HEAT shell was developed just for this tank. The tank, during its long service life went through several modifications and now sports an upgraded engine, an auxiliary engine, better communications equipment, higher crew comfort, a better suspension, an upgraded autoloader, an upgraded turret driver, stabilisers, a bigger gun, new sights and optics, new targeting hardware and software and HEATFS shells.

LinkThe Übelmeister III "Drakul
The true heavy hitter of the Exilvanian Armed Forces. The Übelmeister III was initially developed by Pörschke Mining in collaboration with Krüppel Steel as a birthday present for Kaiser Vlad's 97th birthday. However, the main reason for the creation of this tank was the complete and total inefficiency of the Übelmeister II to engage enemy tanks, light or heavy. And since the military decided to leave the Übelmeister II as an infantry support tank, a new tank had to be created. A tank that could compete with enemy armour, no could annihilate enemy armour. And so the Übelmeister III was born. It was a built as a heavy tank and included many incredible features such as an angled armour plate for the frontal armour of unprecedented thickness. The turret, as always equipped with some of the best optics available in the world, was outfitted with a long barreled 88 mm R88 L/71 cannon for anti tank duties. However, during the first Battalion Wars, the cannon started showing weakness when it was pitted against tanks like the Herman M1-A5 which did not only field greater firepower but also incredible protection. To compete, the Exilvanians started development of the 105 mm R105 L/68 during the Second Battalion Wars, only to find that once again they had started too late. Still, the Übelmeister III was later upgraded with the new cannon as well as various other improvements to the engine, the suspension, the armour etc.

LinkThe Flakker IV
The Flakker IV is the primary anti air vehicle in Exilvania. It too is of an older design, based on the chassis of the Übelmeister I MBT project that never fully materialized. It served well before the two Battalion Wars though before the start, SAMs started becoming more prevalent so the Flakker switched over to SAMs as well. Despite that, the Flakker still retains the looks of a SPAAG, mainly for propaganda reasons as well as for enemy Confusion. Due to having been in service with Exilvanian forces for so long, the Flakker too went through a multitude of upgrades, including new rockets, new targeting systems, new suspension, new engine etc. It will most likely stay the primary anti air vehicle of the Exilvanian Army and who knows, maybe someone picks the Übelmeister MBT project up again?

LinkThe Übelmeister "Groz Bertha"
Exilvanian Doctrines used to be all about heavy artillery, the quadruple 800 mm guns dotting some parts of the coast of Exilvania being a memorials to this very doctrine. Yet with the advent of motorisation and mechanisation of armed forces as well as the advance of air forces, big and heavy guns became nearly complete obsolete as they were incapable of moving with and supporting the quickly advancing forces or retreat fast enough from advancing enemy forces. However, the moron in command of the Armed Forces at the time, Kommandant Übel, did not wish to discard the big guns and thus massive amounts of ressources were wasted on attempting to build useful chassis for the siege artillery pieces of the armed forces. It took them nearly a decade to get an actual, working chassis for atleast the big 420 mm siege guns. Bigger calibers though stayed confined to ships or railways. Anyway, the cannon dubbed "Groz Bertha" is an old, very old, but also very reliable and proven design. Over the century of service it has done to Exilvania, the gun was upgraded several times, the most important being the targeting assistance as well as the new and reinforced nerocitesteel gun barrel which greatly decreased the wearing down of the barrel by the firing of the gun. The chassis has also been upgraded, from an initial, massive tracked chassis which was slow and consumed ridiculous amounts of Nerocite to a wheeled platform which was apparently created by slapping two monster trucks together. Still though, due to its sheer size, it is a fairly expensive vehicle both for construction and maintenance.

LinkThe G-14 Goliath
The Exilvanian Supertank. The moving fortress that none may destroy. The G-14 is a tank like no other, with dimensions like no other tank that previously existed. There is only one plant that produces them and that is one of the largest in Exilvania. The Vampfvaggen complex in central Exilvania, deep behind defensive lines, terrible monsters and hordes of Exilvanian troops. Now like all supertanks, this battlestation has a series of flaws of its own. The first being the sheer size. While still capable of crossing quite some bridges, it is often too big to fit into tunnels or tight spaces and must rely on armour and engine power to make its way through. Other flaws include the high visibility and vulnerability to aerial attack. Also terribly bad is the fact that the Sarkol Naval Guns that it is outfitted with are unarmoured and while this dos not endanger the crew due to the guns being aimed automatically and autoloaded, it makes it rather easy to put them out of commission.

LinkWolfenVocker "Duelist"
The WolfenVocker Duelist is, just like most of the Exilvanian arsenal, an older but well proven model. At the time of its introduction into the armed forces, shortly before the outbreak of the first Battalion Wars, the WolfenVocker was an incredibly futuristic and sophisticated design, overshadowing the gunships of other nations with its speed, armament and marvelous turn rate of 45°/s. Its most distinguishing mark though is the small size it has. It needs little space which is very good for storage and can easily hide from enemy forces. Naturally, the Armed Forces command opted to keep and improve this design rather than develop an entirely new one. Wolfenbau and Vortigern were happy to oblige and have developed a number of upgrades for the WolfenVocker. The armament has of course also been overhauled, X-Männer having continuosly developed new X-Faktor missiles for use with the WolfenVocker. With the change of Exilvanian doctrines from the late second Battalion Wars onwards, the WolfenVockers were also outfitted with stealth equipment to hide them from enemy radar.

LinkVokker Vr. I
The primary Exilvanian Figher aircraft. Yes, it is a biplane. Yes, it is maneuverable as f###. No, it is not slow as ###. Yes, it is a limited stealth jet fighter based on the Horten Ho229. Alright, then let's get down to business with this thing. As you can guess, yet another older design and once again from Vortigern. This though is a pure Vortigern production. Anyway, this jet fighter has had favourable flight statistics so command opted to keep it and just attempt to continuosly increase its effectiveness with new engines and new materials as well as new equipment. Granted it was never quite as good as other nations' fighters but that was recently remedied with the application of newly developed stealth technology, returning the edge in air to air engagements back to the Vokker Vr. I.

LinkGolgotha
The mainstay of the Exilvanian Strategic Bomber Program. Developed under the command of Countess Ingrid, the Golgotha bombers were developed to support Exilvanian forces during siege actions by dropping incredibly heavy bombs on the heads of their enemies. The usual load consisted of 10 1.000 kg bombs and was frequently used for strategic usage. However, under Countess Ingrid, the Exilvanian Air Force perfected tactical bombing tactics with these strategic bombers, seeing that the large explosion of the bombs was in fact very useful in tactical engagements where they could easily wipe out enemy formations despite a fairly low accuracy. The Countess, who later sacrificed herself in vain to protect Exilvania from the invading Alliance of Nations, was honoured by her favourite bombers being kept in the Air Force and being continuosly upgraded to to new levels. The low accuracy problems were even remedied later with the invention and production of guided bombs which helped to greatly boost the effectiveness of the Exilvanian bomber program.

LinkZornier Z1 "Skyhammer"
The Zornier Z1's development was quite interesting to say the least. Initially it was meant to be a conventional bomber plane but then Kommandant Übel took over the development, hoping to develop a great bomber as a present for his love interest, Countess Ingrid who was at that time enjoying her new Golgotha bombers. As always with Kommandant Übel, whatever he touches either goes up in flames or becomes a titanic monstrosity. This is what happened to this. In essence, he first changed it to a simply strategic bomber and then decided that two strategic bombers were better than one...thus the Strato-Destroyer was born, a gigantic aircraft of so far unrivalled size and with a bombload and self defense capabilities easily overshadowing that of other strategic bombers. These aircraft have seen the greatest care from the Exilvanian nation, continuosly being upgraded to stay competitive. Due to the high cost of these aircraft, it is a waste to scrap any of them so the Exilvanian must keep upgrading them.

LinkX-120 Völn Class
The Völn Class actually started its life in the Tundran Territories as an experimental aircraft project. However, Exilvanian Intelligence, already back then sticking its nose in everyone's business, managed to snatch the plans after the project was disbanded and it was attempted to continue the project in Exilvania and create an aircraft for evaluation. However, the Exilvanians proved incapable of actually turning it into an aircraft, probably the reason why the Tundran Territories had abandoned the project in the first place. Anyway, since attempts to get the project airborne failed, a retrofit for naval duties was attempted...and actually proved to be sort of useful. Exilvanian engineers then further explored the naval capabilities of the project and in the end the result was the X-120 Völn Class Patrol Boat. It serves as river, lake and coastal patrol boat and is intended mainly for counter insurgency and policing duties. Now, while the boat is capable of traversing the high seas, it is generally not advised to do so it is rarely seen with larger Exilvanian Naval Forces projecting power across the world.

LinkEisen Class
Interesting Corvette, isn`t it? It was made with the tactics from old dreadnoughts and battleships still in mind and thus as considerable close range firepower. An armoured turret with twin Sarkol Cannons is the main weapon of choice when it comes to support of nearby ground forces or direct close range engagement with enemy forces. However, rumours are floating around, that the Exilvanian Naval Command is experimenting with railgun technology so it is possible that these guns will soon be a much larger threat to enemy vessels than they have been for a long time. Apart from this the ship has copious amounts of radar arrays and other technological gadgets to to pick up on and neutralize enemy threats. Now, to the uneducated viewer, those three tubes at the back might seem like chimneys but in truth these are missile silos, equipped with long range anti ship missiles to clear the seas for the Exilvanian fleet. Lastly, the ship is equipped paddles much like a paddle steamer. These are to function as back up propulsion in case the engine is hit. They are either powered by an auxiliary generator or can be powered by humanoids with pure strength and stamina.

LinkKrakenklass Class
The Krakenklass ships are dying out. This is mainly due to a multitude of technical difficulties, their expensive production and maintenance as well a the fact that there is little need for them in modern warfare. Since attempts to refit the Krakenklass frigates as Missile Frigates didn't work out, they mainly act as artillery support for infantry on land and also provide point defense for nearby ships. Another last reason why they are kept in service is the amount of space they offer, space that was quickly used to stuff the nearly obsolete ships full with high tech equipment to act as communication, reconnaissance and Cyber Warfare centres on the open seas. And while the Eisen Class Corvettes are nearly as well equipped as them, they still have some edge over them, hence why they stay in service. Nonetheless, their days are numbered.

LinkV-571 Zordfish Class
Ah, yes, the Wolfpacks. The dreaded Zordfishes. Yet another incredible machine to aid in Exilvanian Home Defense and Terrorism. In essence, the Zordfish is an incredibly small submarine and is equipped with state of the art technology to further assist with blending in in the water to avoid discovery. They are perfect for raids on enemy naval vessels. However, this small size comes at a cost. The Zordfish carries surprisingly few weapons, having only about 10 torpedoes onboard as well as a twin 15 mm HMG turret to protect themselves should they be forced to surface. Another drawback is the fact that the Zordfish is nearly incapable of operating outside of the Exilvanian territorial waters due to a very small range.
