History of Maxonberg

Maxonberg was founded sometime in December 2008 by Linkin Maximus, a longtime member of the LKE. Inspired by the theme of The New Inquisition, a former leading imperialist region where Linkin also had membership and that had a long history with the LKE, Maxonberg was established as a monarchy with its head of state role being reserved to the founder and a separate head of government position carried the title of Archchancellor/Kanzler.

Maxonberg was admitted into the United Kingdom of Britain (UKB), an early successful monarchist region that was in a union with The Land of Kings and Emperors. LKE's founder, then Emperor Lucius, decided to transform Maxonberg to a principality. Consequently, the sovereign of Maxonberg's title was changed to Prince of Maxonberg and was formally assumed by the UKB's monarch (then Onderkelia of the LKE). The precise constitutional status of Maxonberg in its early time with the UKB remains unclear, although Linkin was eventually appointed as vassal monarch, a position which carried a higher precedence than other colonial governors and governors-general. Later, Maxonberg would be recognized as a proper dominion of the UKB.

When the union between the LKE and UKB concluded on 20 October 2009, initially Maxonberg stayed with UKB. It was considered as a consolation prize for its then monarchy (led by Cornwallis, who had succeeded Onderkelkia as King in June 2009) for losing the LKE.
In early 2010, UKB became part of the LKE Empire with a special status (allowing it to keep its own monarchy) under a treaty. In mid-2010, Lucius, as LKE Emperor and UKB Founder, removed UKB's special constitutional status, such that UKB became an ordinary LKE dominion, to which a group of UKB members (those who had not been in the early LKE) led by Cornwallis vehemently objected, declaring independence with the support of the Holy Dominion Federation. When they declared independence, The UKB rebels asserted that they had jurisdiction over Maxonberg as well as UKB, whereas LKE's position was that UKB and its dominions had all now become part of the LKE Empire without any special status for UKB.

By 2011, Onder would refound Maxonberg, securing effective LKE control over the region ever since. No further claims from UKB were made, particularly after the dispute between the LKE and the UKB were resolved and the latter granted independence under the reign of Onder as LKE Emperor.

Maxonberg became the customary seat of the archducal title of the Prince Imperial, traditionally the title of the person considered as second-in-line to the LKE Throne (replacing Ilum while it was held by the Moldavia rebels). From mid-November 2015, the Prince of Maxonberg’s title was changed to Grand Duke as part of a wider alteration of the LKE Emperor’s titles that included changing the LKE Emperor’s title in Niso from Grand Prince to Bretwalda, Grand Duke to Doge in Vienna and in The Land of Dragonia from Shogun to Autokrator. Onder would revert to the LKE Emperor’s original titles in Maxonberg and Niso in June 2016.

The traditional title of Prince of Maxonberg has persisted as such in the LKE imperial style since, being used by then LKE Emperor Theoden and reigning Emperor Felix. In 2018, Maxonberg replaced Niso as the Crown Prince’s archducal title after Theoden created Onder as Archduke of Niso. Upon taking the LKE Throne in 2022, Emperor Felix created Theoden Archduke of Maxonberg, and again changed the LKE Crown Prince’s archducal title to Vienna, the seat which was assigned to the Prince Imperial during his predecessor’s reign. Emperor Felix also raised Maxonberg to a viceroyalty, the highest level in LKE's hierarchy of colonial possessions.

On 5 September 2022, Onder will refound the region of Maxonberg, consolidating his custodianship over the physical region.

Maxonberg has served as one of the more important possessions of the LKE. It has hosted the Maxonberg Colonial Conference, a gathering of the LKE’s colonial administrators to discuss reforms for the LKE colonies. Maxonberg’s community forums served as a test forum for the LKE’s decision to convert from Invisionfree to Zetaboard. At one point, it was also the home of the LKE Emperor’s personal armed guard and units of the LKE Imperial Army.

Maxonberg lent its name to the Treaty of Maxonberg, a treaty that formalized and strengthened bilateral relations with the Osiris Fraternal Order, signed on 28th March 2014, ratified on 30th March 2014 before being rescinded on 02 November 2018.

Maxonberg in its second and current form, was featured on 12 August 2026.
