LGBT Rights in Texas
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, queer (LGBT) people in Texas face legal and social challenges and discrimination not faced by other people. Same-sex sexual activity is legal in the state. On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled bans on same-sex marriage to be unconstitutional in Obergefell v. Hodges. Texas has a hate crime statute that strengthens penalties for certain crimes motivated by a victim's sexual orientation, although it has never been invoked. Gender identity is not included in the hate crime law. Even though federal law prohibits employment discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, there is no statewide law banning anti-LGBT discrimination. However, some localities in Texas have ordinances that provide a variety of legal protections and benefits to LGBT people.
Despite Texas' reputation as a socially conservative state, a majority of Texans support same-sex marriage and anti-discrimination laws for LGBT people.

Scotland in recent years has gained a reputation for being the most tolerant part of the UK; there are very few conservatives up there, and those that are there are overshadowed by the leadership of the SNP (Scottish National Party - the main party pushing for Scottish independence). Recently a few members of the SNP left to join the newly founded Alba Party, a notably less tolerant party, following the expulsion of Alexander Salmond.
The UK, including Scotland, has a long way to go from my perspective as an insider however. The UK hasn't outlawed conversion therapy yet, although they are apparently in the process of drafting legislation about it - there's a worry however that this legislation will not include Trans or Non-Binary people, as the rather vocal, and well funded, minority of transphobes here have a grip on the media and politics here. The head of the UK's Equalities and Human Rights Commission is a notable transphobe, and there has been a recent and worrying trend of conservatives using transphobia as a casus belli to attack all LGBTQ rights.
There is good news, however, the overwhelming majority of young people have a positive view of LGBTQ rights, and it is apparent the very Conservative UK government is aware of this as they have a current trend of not doing anything to completely provoke supporters of LGBTQ rights - it appears they're warry of facing more protests, as 2020 and 2021 has seen near continuous protest in one form or another from young people.
