Imagine a timeline where American Corporations Built and Operated all of Europe's Trains Roads and Airlines
with Germany forced to Produce their Best Consumer Goods to be exported to all of Europe transported by American Corporations who would charge exorbitant transportation fees ? imagine all the Money we could have made!
Sorry for your loss but these are just the side affects of war, you shouldn't excuse your individual family as a valid reason to support the people fighting for slavery. This also sounds, way, way too specific I'm kinda having trouble those things actually happened but that besides the point. You know how many more innocent lives were lost at the hands of slavery? Millions. And for you saying that you wanted that continue makes me sick to my stomach, not to mention the loss of intellectual potential. I am sorry, your individual family does not excuse the terrible tortures that millions faced over centuries.
old Journals and Stories pass though the generations, however most of the Southern Population Did not own Slaves, also I didn't Say I wanted Slavery to continue it would of eventually came to an end regardless of the War, the Reason my Great Great Grand Father fought for the South was to Defend his Homeland form an Invading army. and Later on for Revenge. at the Time people identified with their States Instead of the Federal Government. would you Condemn a Englishman for Fighting for Britain in WW1 ? because of the Many Crimes of the UK ? would you condemn a Revolutionary war era New Englander for Treason against the Crown ? or do you overlook them because they won?
Not saying it's right. I am personally repulsed that someone would think that those views are valid. But it's also quite clear that there is a segment of America that looks at those times with rose coloured glasses. The posts of some on here are still quite emotional about something that happened a couple of generations ago. As someone who is not American I am unsettled by all of this
He did not fight to defend his homeland. Because it was not attacked. The federal government was not doing anything. The Southerners, without any provocation, started a rebellion against a democratically elected national government. Simply because they did not like the outcome of the election (which they helped to bring about by splitting the Democratic Party). I.e. they did the same thing that modern terrorists did last Wednesday. Very importantly, the Southern states agreed to the rules of the game in advance. In fact, in 1787 they already acted like spoiled brats (which the planters' sons indeed were) and negotiated the rules heavily tilting the playing field in their favor, giving them (via three fifths compromise and equal representation of states in the Senate) a share of the Electoral College votes way out of proportion to their actual share of the American voting population. Still, they lost and then acted like very sore losers. Yes, I would condemn a Revolutionary War era New Englander for treason if he had an elected MP in British parliament and took up arms because the other party won majority of seats in parliament and he hated the new PM. But the whole point of that war was that American colonies had no representation in parliament whatsoever.
I don't know whether your ancestor was brainwashed by slave owners or consciously fought to defend a system of rigid social hierarchy in which he held a privileged position (way above both slaves and free blacks) simply by virtue of being white. It's interesting BTW that in West Virginia and East Tennessee where there were hardly any slaves (or their owners) white men displayed very little interest in "defending their homeland from an invading army" (in fact many joined the invading army), despite your claims that they identified with their states rather than the US. But the objective fact is that your ancestor was a terrorist who tried to destroy self-government. Which just can't exist if the election losers resort to violence instead of accepting defeat.
you want to make oversimplified statements about Ancestor's ? Yours was probably a member Lenin's Horde of Bolsheviks who took part in the Mass Butchering of the Ukrainians. or Perhaps He was one of the Tsars Guards who Turned Tail and Ran form the Reds. or Perhaps he Guarded a Gulag ? Or maybe he was just a Peasant who got Dragged into something bigger than himself.
sure whatever you say Bolshevik.
clearly our definition of "Self government" is Different I View the Federal Government as a IMPERIAL government "self Government" would be Smaller Areas Governing themselves with out the Feds bossing them around. Your Union Fell Apart and the Nations in it went their own Way More or less Peacefully I do not see why the States Should not be allowed to Leave regardless of the Reason. When the American Union Falls and Eventually it will. You have a Country you can Return too
I do Not
What I want is New York and California to not Be able to Influence how things are Run in Missouri because some Bastards in DC say so.
But I guess That is To Complicated For a Former Soviet to Understand.
No I do not want Them to Subsidize us! I Don't Like Federal Welfare Policies. California's Policy's are Destroying the State and New York is Run by a Couple of Mobsters
But Again I Can't Expect a Former Soviet to Understand why Having the Mafia Govern a State and Ridiculous Self Destructive Policy's is something that should be Contained.
I Mean you Grew up with Moscow being the Center of a Gigantic Empire Run by Gangsters who enacted Self Destructive Policies that Didn't benefit the People in the Rural areas so you don't think twice about any of that.

The Japanese did worse to members of my family and people they knew on a continual basis in the Philippines during World War 2 -- survivors of such atrocities I grew up knowing, yet I don't hate the Japanese. Hating people for things that happened nearly two hundred years ago and then trying to pass that hatred off as rational is just sad.
No, I live there and while things are honestly not that great and waaaaaay overpriced, it's also not the apocalyptic hellscape people make it out to be.
wait how can you send videos here I have a video about tax evasion
It really amuses me how many Republicans claim that California is not "real" America. For billions around the world California is America. I mean, their interactions with America mostly consist of using iPhones, Google and Facebook and watching Hollywood movies. So for them California is the symbol of American ingenuity and creativity. It's also symbol of America as land of opportunity. Everybody know the stories of a young poor man who came to California from the Midwest, made his fame and fortune, became governor and then president, of a young poor man who came to California from Austria, made his fame and fortune and then became governor and of a man from Jamaica and a woman from India who came to California, met and had a daughter who now becomes the vice-president.
