Yeah, I'm kinda non-existent on the forum but I do like the cards. But both the region mechanics and issues are what appeal to me the most, and for good reason.

The forums can be a lot of fun, but I'd steer clear of General to be honest.

(Character CG was not an option in the late eighties.)

We are the Borg. Lower your weapons and surrender your fleets. We will add your neurological and technological distinctiveness to our own; your culture shall be programmed to service us.

Gameplay too.

I liked the original Borg the most. They were plenty scary without the deep voice and the queen.

Frieden-und Freudenland wrote:What is remarkable about this is that we, as humans, feel compassion for machines (literally heaps of junk metal, at this point) when they break. There is some interesting research on how humans anthropomorphize electronic devices and are capable of growing attached to them. (I don't have time to Google it and find the relevant links to the paper, but please do that yourself if you're interested.)

For the very same reason, we get angry at our devices when they don't work as anticipated, because we see them as "uncooperative teammates."

What is so mind-blowing about the human-AI cooperation that will soon be ubiquitous is that humans have evolved such strong social bonds and an enormous capacity for interpersonal affiliation, that we will most certainly project it on our robotic friends.

I'm curious about how this will unfold.

It's not that remarkable at all; the attachment is not to the heaps of metal, but to the behavior said heaps display. This is also why homo sapiens tends to show attachment to other mammals. And occasionally non-mammals. For example, I'm normally mildly arachnophobic except for many species of jumping spiders which are both mammal like in appearance (furry, if excessively legged) and behavior (ability to track objects and display apparent curiousity, their prowess for pathfinding and target tracking, etc).

So, when I bust out the q-tips to clean out my robotic vacuum, am I showing the initial signs of schizophrenia, or simply engaged in normal primate social grooming?

I figured it was just because the evil capitalists (Ferengi) turned out to be too stereotypically (in an arguably unpleasant way) silly to take seriously, so they flying-leap-in-the-opposite-direction-ed. And then had to come up with silly ways to stop the unstoppable juggernaut. Naturally, a hyper-advanced hyper-warp-capable superorganism would so totally leave the "put all drones to sleep so the cube overloads and explodes" program outside the firewall...

Also, "quantum" torpedoes. Is there anything "quantum" doesn't do?

At any rate, Quarks' characterization in DS9 was far improved, but the damage was done.

They are blue!

Jumping spiders are amazing but I would be terrified of them if I was the size of a small insect. I have never been an arachnophobe. There was a big house spider that would always be walking around on the ceilings while I grew up and I named it "Roberto". I am really glad that my parents had the good sense to not kill that spider!

The species that was causing trouble around the Neutral Zone was initially conceived to be insectoids who were associated with those strange parasites who tried to take over the Federation at the end of season one of TNG. Then I guess that they realized how difficult it would be to portray insectoid aliens before character CG was a thing. I like to think of a parallel universe where TNG used Farscape-style puppetry to fit them in.

Hi All,

You guys have always been my secret weapon in writing WA drafts and I'm asking for your help again today. I have posted to Forest’s forums an ambitious effort of mine to try to repeal and replace Genera Assembly Resolution 66: Endangered Species Protection. I know this is a critical piece of legislation, but I really think it has some flaws (hopefully clearly laid out in my repeal and solved with my replacement). In the past, I've gotten some of my best feedback on Forest's forum so if you're interested in the WA or endangered species protection or whatever feel free to comment! Thanks. I'm tagging some nations that I know are experienced in the WA or have provided feedback in the past, but seriously anyone is welcome. So Dubant had a crack at redesigning my flag anyways, and I have to say they've done a great job! Nicely done and cheers.

The XKI Emissary Update for February!

Caracasus wrote:So Dubant had a crack at redesigning my flag anyways, and I have to say they've done a great job! Nicely done and cheers.

Yes! I did!
And I can draw something for you! Check my works:

List of flags what I made on this site:
Lesnak asked for flag with yellow, green and white. Flag in use.

__________________________________________________________________

Golden Scar asked: Anything but make it communism themed So i made this.
But Golden Scar have been really busy to change flag for new one.

__________________________________________________________________

Trap_o_bell ask: Could you do something with like tacos, aliens, communism and anything else?
He liked my first idea without tacos, so flag in use.

__________________________________________________________________

I get card of Tarcax oxide. And tried to make flag in better quality:

But Tarcax oxide said: Flag is as intented. This flag was never meant to be crisp
So i try one more time:

But Tarcax oxide has his own idea and likes his own flag. And that is good! Well done!

__________________________________________________________________

Also I get card of Ormusqand and tried to make it's flag in better quality:

Queen Ariel Sus-Ormusqand thanked me and now flag in use.

__________________________________________________________________

Flag for Timao.
Nothing to describe - it was flag of Corinthians Paulista, but in low quality and rotated - I just update it.

__________________________________________________________________

New flag for Cafevodka. Just put a little part of Irish pub on Irish flag. :)

__________________________________________________________________

Flag for CRlSPR. But we quarreled, so I wouldn't finish this flag...

__________________________________________________________________
For Ancient Whispers I made someting. Ancient Whispers ask for purple color, so we got:

Seagull ask: "I want to keep the circling stars and the seagull", so i made this:

__________________________________________________________________
For Caracasus - I just updated flag.

__________________________________________________________________
And I can draw a random flag - just give me 8 digits.
For example 09123235

__________________________________________________________________

My own flag was made fast and easy.

I will be happy to make flags for anyone!

News from Conifer:

Athidill wrote:Hello everyone! I'm pleased to announce another cultural event: the Elderberry Poetry Puy, a contest of verse and prose! This edition's theme is the Forest, and all styles and genres are welcome, be they haikus, sonnets, epic chants or simply an interesting thought laid on paper; as long as the theme is present in your creation. The contest will be open for submissions from the Spring Equinox, 21st of March, through the 10th of April. My shadow The Gaelic People, and I, shall then deliberate and announce our favourite poem or poems. You may submit poems by posting them on the designated #elderberry-puy channel on the regional Discord, or send them to me via telegram. Cheers!

Athidill wrote:Voting States from embassy regions (like your member Swallow/Seagull) are free to enter and receive awards, as do Coniferan Member States and Residents. Forestians may submit poems which will be taken into consideration, but they will not be eligible to special awards. The next regional event will perchance be more Forest-friendly :D

So Foresters are free to participate but ineligible for "special awards". My Forest Breeze is a voting state so I might participate.

Secret report: Forest's plan to subvert TSP is on track.

Keep this on the down low

Also, Montmorencia is a WA delegate now. (In a small region but still neat!)

Does that mean I get to be a feeder delegate?

Ransium wrote:Does that mean I get to be a feeder delegate?

shh... we'll get there eventually. Now that Forest controls the TSP Local Council, the delegacy can't be far off :-)

I totally heard that the current LC is just a bunch of corrupt and evil Forest puppets. It's all part of Forest's plan to subvert The South Pacific.
