WA Recommendations
Peaceful First Contact — AGAINST
After thinking about this for a bit, I am recommending a vote against. I believe this resolution has good intentions, however, it simply lacks in substance especially regarding what are the consequences from launching an offensive against visiting nations? Who oversees this? Is there immunity from disciplinary actions for the nation defending itself in the case of an invasion upon first contact (or shortly after)? Also, what determines a “beneficial” war? Does this excuse colonization? Surely one could make the case that would be beneficial for the colonizers. Because of this, I am voting against and I encourage my fellow Assemblians to do so as well.
Condemn Ravana — AGAINST
I’ll be brief. This seems like a petty dispute between regions and I don’t think it warrants action on the part of the Security Council.

In a factbook you posted to their RMB, you have national leaders named after the racist murderers of Fernando Baez Sosa. You were questioned on in TI and didn't bother responding. That's what got you banned there, and it's what's getting you banned here too.

Legislation Voted Upon
The Legislative Process Amendment (Voting Duration) has passed in the GA by a unanimous vote of 7-0. The votes were as follows:
FOR
Antinios: "I do believe that establishing a voting period for minor amendments is beneficial and I see no problem with shortening the voting periods as most votes are cast before 48 hours."
Argentigrad: "Almost every bill gets voted on in less than 48 hours, and establishing the duration of the voting period as 48 hours would help efficiency."
Dyl: "Most bills already pass under 48 hours, also if someone would become inactive we wouldn't need wait as long for a bill to pass."
Kavagrad: "I've long been an advocate of shortening voting periods, having previously written legislation on the topic, so this is a no-brainer from my point of view."
New samon: "The bill has no conflicts with current practices, and engrains it in law. In simpler terms, I agree with previous points stated."
Nottinhaps: "This will help make legislation passing go through smoother, as less time is needed for voting."
Sincadenas: "I don't have much to add to the prior reasons given. Makes things go faster and more efficiently since we don't really need more than 48 hours to vote. The 24 hour long period also makes sense."
Legislation Introduced
Next in the Legislative Queue is the Constitutional Amendment (Voting Duration), which is hereby introduced on the RMB for public feedback over the next 24 hours, after which it shall be put to a vote open to all electoral citizens.
Purpose
The amendment seeks to implement a set voting period for constitutional amendments.
Implementation
The amendment shall be implemented with immediate effect.

An amendment to this Constitution may be enacted with a two-thirds majority of electoral citizens in favour
World Assembly citizens shall be permitted to vote in a three-day poll
Military Voting and dual citizens shall be permitted to vote on the Regional Message Board in the same period

I encourage members to vote against the WA proposal "Peaceful first contact".
Peaceful relations between socialist and capitalist nations are impossible, due to the nature of class conflict.
Nations are not separate from their State and political-economic system/mode of production.

I'm proud to announce that the 18th General Assembly has passed 10 pieces of legislation in a single month following my election as Speaker and the beginning of our legislative work.
For comparison, the record for pieces of legislation passed over an entire term is 14, set by the 16th GA.
I hope that this GA can continue to find ways to improve our laws for the benefit of TLA and all Assemblians, as it has done thus far.

Announcement from the Secretary
Hi comrades,
So I’m just posting this announcement to send out a few reminders.
1.) Suggestion Box — In case you haven’t noticed, we have a suggestion box linked on the WFE which is open to all Assemblians to share their thoughts and any suggestions on which direction my administration should take. The link for it is here: https://forms.gle/PjggW3xMb7LcCpzY8
2.) Civil Service — We’ve added the Ministry of Community Affairs to the Civil Service Initiative. If you’re interested in volunteering for Community Affairs, I encourage you to apply today. You can find the dispatch linked in the WFE, but for convenience, I will also link it:
The Civil Service Initiative is a multifaceted executive project to bring Assemblians into our community’s political process through volunteer work within our various ministries. Though each ministry’s civil service will have its own unique characteristics depending on the conditions thereof, volunteers will assist in the day-to-day functions of the Cabinet. At the end of the term, individuals will be awarded for their service to our community.
In order to become a Civil Servant, one need only fill out a brief application via a google form. Applications will be reviewed at the cabinet’s earliest convenience and applicants will be informed on whether they’ve been accepted into their program of interest. Individual ministries may have restrictions such as length of residency prior to being eligible to participate.
In short, the Guide Program is an opportunity for new members to have a mentor accompany them as they transition into The Leftist Assembly and become a part of our community. The nature of the Guide Program is the following.
In order to be eligible to become a Guide, one must reside in the region for a minimum of three months.
Guides will be assigned upon request by a new member who wishes to have a mentor from the Guide Program.
Guides will remain with their assigned newcomer for a week, during which, the Guide will answer any questions or concerns and otherwise assist in the integration process.
To request a Guide, individuals are encouraged to fill out the following form with the information requested.
The Community Affairs Ministry is the cultural enrichment wing of the Civil Service Initiative. Here, volunteers can work with Minister Libertasnia to select leftist art, such as poems, songs, photos, etc, and give them a spotlight within our region to provide a unique experience and resource to the comrades in our Assembly. Volunteers may also work with the Minister, as well as other Members of Government to plan and run cooperative events with other allied regions, such as a game night, movie night, or joint culture shows.
Civil Service members in Roleplay will help by maintaining the roleplay resources. Major responsibilities will be to maintain the map by adding new members or making map change requests, once they have been approved by the MORP. Another will be to maintain the list of active roleplayers. Should further needs arise, the input and assistance of civil service members will be gladly accepted.
Civil Service members in the Information Ministry will help by informing citizens of various events, through the use of dispatches. Those who wish to apply should have an understanding of how to use BBCode (the code used to create dispatches on NationStates). Should further needs arise, the input and assistance of civil service members will be gladly accepted.

3.) We have an art museum which I encourage everyone to submit any writings or other forms of art to share with the region. Link: https://sites.google.com/view/the-leftist-assembly-museum/home?authuser=0 For inquiries about how to make submissions, I refer you to Curator Wascoitan.
And with that, my announcement is done. Thank you again for electing me as your Secretary and I look forward to continuing to serve TLA. :)

The whole point of "first contact" is that you don't know the people that you have just made contact with though.

Constitutional Amendment(Voting duration) will help clarify and define a set voting period for constitutional amendments.
I decided to go with 3 days for regular amendments to the constitution as I believe that 3 days is a more reasonable period for electoral citizens to decide whether to support the amendment in question as they might not be as active. I also believe that the increased importance of constitution amendments justifies the 3 days voting period as compared to the 48 hours voting period that Code of Law amendments have.
The increased clarification on the process of the voting period would also help to reduce possible confusion in the future.
I'm open to any changes proposed to the amendment as long as sufficient reasons are given.

How does this game work?
Hello and welcome! I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have, but heads up: we have a Guide Program -- if you sign up, you get assigned a Guide who'll be fully available to you for a week to answer any questions you may have. If that sounds good to you, just write your nation name in this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rmdaKxN3cI7MUQXcSIqhajvD91ZYTAQZlN0tJYJyB5g/edit?usp=sharing
If not, feel free to send me a telegram and I'll respond to the best of my capabilities.

Hello everyone, I’m new here.
Social-Democrat (Third Way) and advocate of the New Zealand Labour Party here.

You New Zealanders are lucky to have a leader who can actually do their job properly, unlike most of the world sadly...
True, but hey, at least she isnt Trump. We Californians have to deal with this douchebag who wants to allow fracking here of all places.
Ah yes, Roger Douglas, New Zealand's Tony Blair.
I'm gonna keep quiet on this one, I think.

Many social democrats are, apparently, incorrect.
Llorens, Hecknamistan, Argentigrad, Podria, and 3 othersWascoitan, Elebe, and Antinios
As in all cases, the least correct "social democrats" are the ones that are actually liberals co-opting the term.
Actual social democrats, like Corbyn and Arden, are the very people that would balk at this sort of talk.
Just a reminder that third way "social democracy" is not social democracy, but centrist neoliberalism in denial.

Problem is, democracy wasn't implemented in Iraq, nor was it really the reason for the war. The Iraq war was one of many oil-wars for the western powers, they replaced the rightful government of Iraq with one that would just bend over for the imperialist overlords. It wasn't a war that needed to happen, and defence of it is a defence of Imperialism.
