It will also bind the body organising by-elections to section 3 of the Electoral Conduct Act. It also wouldn't affect the speed and efficiency of a by-election since the Secretary is picking the citizens that are forming the election committee.

I guess this answers my concern of the process being inefficient, but this amendment has a glaring loophole given the position of Secretary may be vacant, hence the need for the by-election. Separately, I'm not sure how the Secretary (even if the by-election wasn't about them) appointing all three election moderators is indeed the most 'transparent' alternative to the current system.

In my opinion, the current system works fine and prioritises a swift process. Organising numerous people as moderators can be a drag on what ought to be a fairly efficient procedure.

Thank you for pointing out the loophole. I didn't manage to spot it when editing and vetting the amendment. I have amended the amendment to fix the loophole.

While I do agree that it is definitely not the most 'transparent' alternative to the current system, I do believe that it is a good balance of transparency and the efficiency that a by-election requires. Having 3 election moderators appointed by the Secretary instead of just 1 appointed by the secretary would reduce the possibility of corruption in a by-election as it would take all 3 members collaborating to disrupt the integrity of the election instead of just 1.

I concede that the amendment will sacrifice some efficiency of by-elections, I do believe that some of the efficiency would be made up from having election moderators being able to work on the by-election while other moderators are busy. I also believe that the trade off of having greater transparency would be worth it.

Greetings Comrades.

Greetings Antinios. I am having trouble with the Discord instructions. I have the Copy Clipboard but I do not know what the DM channel is. I am new to Discord.

I assume you are talking about nation verification through Unity Machine. What you want to do is go to your direct messages (DMs) and follow the instructions sent by UM to you there. These are your individual one-to-one messages with other users that no one else can see (verification doesn't work in the main server!).

Let us know if you need any more assistance. :)

WA Discussion

I have not had time to look at it yet, but I’d like to open discussion on the current resolution entitled “Access to Abortion”.

I wholeheartedly agree with this resolution. The right for an unprepared mother to not have a child is important in ensuring that the child doesn't get born into a bad situation, and the mother, if in a hard financial situation, doesn't have more of a financial strain.
I am voting FOR this resolution, and I suggest that you too, comrades, vote for it.

I appreciate Antinios fixing up the loophole with the amendment and I think the new version would work fine, though I still disagree with the change.

On a practical level, finding three interested moderators during normal elections with 3 nomination days and 7 debating days can sometimes be a hassle - in a by-election, you have basically less than 24 hours (the length of the nomination period as there is no debate period) to find three people. I don't think it is impossible to do so, and it may well not be difficult most times, but I think it's feasible that we might run into that as an issue at some point in the future. I just feel like this is such a little step towards transparency that potentially forfeits some more important efficiency.

Not gonna make this my hill to die on, though, because honestly it's not a big deal. 😋
