FVN Mastadon, 2 Kilometers off the sourthern coast of Alston Island, 0200 Hours

The Mastadon. A Sovereign-class Destroyer from the Federation 3rd Fleet, it was assigned to oversee the standard automation procedures for the fourth Ardent-class Drone Carrier, which would patrol the southern coast for any sign of activity from the Winter Resistance. The other three were already activated and guarding the southern archipelagic waters.

Captain Rein: "Status report, Commander."

Commander Eshen: "Second set of tests check out. Starting third set of tests."

Captain Rein: "Anything on radar?"

Radar Officer: "Tjern Squadron is patrolling 7 klicks southeast of our position. Two scheduled and cleared civilian flights headed towards the mainland, three cargo ships, nothing else... hold on."

TJERN, Federation 1st Air Force, 4th Air Division, 18th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron

Four NG-31 interceptors traveled northwest at supercruising speed. The night combined with their black paint made them nearly invisible, save for their afterburners which gave a blue glow regardless. Despite being an older design in comparison to the newer production model interceptors like the CHIMERA, an overhaul to improve the airframe, replacement of engines and electronics, and compatibility with a pulse laser in place of a machine gun allowed the NG-31 as well as other jets of that era to remain in service.

Tjern 1: "Tjern 1 to Mastadon, radar network is picking up an aircraft from Alston, bearing 1-7-5, closing fast."

Captain Rein: "Mastadon to Tjern, set Alert 1. Investigate the airspace."

Tjern 1: "Tjern, roger that."

Tjern Squadron set their afterburners and headed to the blip on their radar. The Mastadon continued it's escort of the carrier while two LCS combat ships that were only half a kilometer behind were notified to make a tighter formation with the destroyer. Tjern soon reached their destination, meeting up with the aircraft. The aircraft in question appeared to be a cargo plane, with two conformal fuel tanks on delta wings, allowing for a quick flight.

Tjern 1: "1 to 2, check around the plane. 3, fly up to the cockpit and signal them to change course."

Tjern 2 and 3: "Roger that, boss."

Tjern 2 began flying closer to the plane to check on markings and any external devices while 3 accelerated and lined up alongside the cockpit of the cargo plane.

Tjern 2: "Nothing out of the ordinary here. Designation is SC-6511A."

Tjern 3: "Attention Cargo Flight SC-6511A, you're nearing restricted airspace..."

Tjern 1: "Tjern 3, what's going on?"

Tjern 3: "Boss, there's no one in the cockpit."

The two conformal fuel tanks detached from the pylons, splitting in half. As the halves broke away, a pair of ignitions was seen, and Tjern now found themselves chasing after two anti-ship cruise missiles. The pilots of the four NG-31s set master arm and prepared to fire. If only their electronics weren't scrambled at the last second.

Tjern 2: "It's that darn plane!"

Tjern 4: "The cruise missiles will accelerate out of reach if we go after it, even if we split up!"

Tjern 1: "Tjern 1 to Mastadon, you have a pair of cruise missiles targeting you!"

Mastadon Comms Officer: "Roger that, Tjern, anti-weapon defense systems spinning up. Take out that contact."

Tjern 1: "With pleasure. Tjern 2 and 3, destroy that cargo plane with your laser pods."

Tjern 2 and 3 armed their laser pods and each continually fired until they landed several hits by eyesight, damaging the engines and hull of the plane and making it lose speed.

Back with the Mastadon...

Comms Officer: "Sir! Two cruise missiles spotted by Tjern squadron, heading our direction!"

Radar Officer: "Can confirm! Two unknown model SRASMs on radar, bearing 175, closing fast!"

Fire Control Systems Officer: "Spinning up anti-weapon defenses."

Commander Eshen: "Sir, should I-"

Captain Rein: "Finish the tests. Two missiles won't be a problem for a Laser Weapon System."

Commander Eshen: "R-Roger that, sir."

Captain Rein: "First time finding yourself at the receiving end of a cruise missile?"

Commander Eshen: "Yes, sir."

Captain Rein: "You'll be fine."

Radar Officer: "Hostile aircraft confirmed destroyed by Tjern Squadron."

Captain Rein: "Set one of the lasers to a lower wattage so it shuts down a missile. Destroy the other one. Once it's over, I want that missile fished out. We'll have an idea what we're dealing with."

FCS Officer: "Wilco."

Two ball turrets near the front end of the ship, at each front corner of the Mastadon's superstructure, opened up, each revealing a lens. One had a dim glow while the other would most certainly blind anyone trying to look in. The dimmer pod fired a red laser, cutting into the back half of the missile, damaging the thruster. The missile shut down and splashed into the water. As this happened, the brighter pod fired a much brighter laser that could be seen from miles away, destroying the other missile signified by an explosion in the air. One of the LCS ships sped ahead towards the splash point of the disabled missile while Commander Eshen wiped his brow.

Commander Eshen: "Calibrations complete. Ardent-4 is ready for operations."

Captain Rein gave a sigh. He felt like he was already getting too old for this, despite being only 37 years of age. A lap around the Arcion Islets would probably help.

Central Authority Office, the next morning

Fennik looked over the current news, with the two crises of Kathol Rift and Penguinya being prominent.

Colonel Sokov: "Comrade. Mastadon chopper brought missile."

Fennik sighed.

Fennik: "A moment. I'll be there shortly."

Sokov nodded and left, closing the door behind him. Fennik turned to the man next to him, Intel Secondary Commander Schmidt.

Fennik: "So you can confirm this just from her speech?"

ISC Schmidt: "Of course. While Lochte's division is still gathering information about the overall situation, I do believe the facts we have now. The recently widowed Kathol'ar, Verdika, is actually rather hiding the fact well. If I were still a rookie, I wouldn't have known any better. But her speech and wording is ever so slightly forced. Perhaps it was with intention so we would take notice or I'm just that good at analysis, but this confirms my suspicions that the Kathol'ar is being forced to speak against her will by a group she is not fond of. I wouldn't immediately suspect the Senate without proper evidence, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're pulling the strings."

Fennik: "I see. I suspected the same, but I wanted your expertise on this. As much as I'd want to avenge a lost friend of mine, we have more pressing concerns."

ISC Schmidt: "Indeed. The missile used by the Winter Resistance."

The two were taken by car to the naval dock, where the helicopter and captured missile sat at one of the various helipads, waiting for examination. One of the marines saluted the two, then turned and pulled the tarp off of the missile.

ISC Schmidt: "That is quite the package."

Fennik: "I recognize it from my tours in the Ring Expansion War."

ISC Schmidt: "An older model cruise missile used by East Lebatuck until they developed a replacement and sold some of their stockpile to the Coalition for arming their own ships. It has been heavily modified by the Winter Resistance with a fuel efficient thruster, upgraded sensors and optics, and a higher yield explosive, matching the basic modern standards."

Fennik: "They never quit poking around, do they..."

Fennik turned around to see Erikson approaching before stopping in front of him, saluting and handing a holo-tablet over.

Erikson: "The Jar Wattinree government has agreed to our proposal. So far, the East Lebatuckese government isn't aware and a detachment will arrive in due time. Soon, sir. We will be able to travel through the Sugamya Ocean once more."

Fennik gave Erikson a pat on the shoulder.

Fennik: "Good. Whatever East Lebatuck has in plan next, we'll be prepared."

Fennik turned to look out to the archipelagic waters, where 40 ships were visible in formation, the battleships Tungsten Blade and Gate Guardian among them, preparing to head out to sea toward their positions to guard the sovereign waters, while several Blackstar gunships flew above, their jumbo jet wingspans visible to all and their engines giving a powerful hum. He reached out to the sea, imagining taking hold as two ZF-47 fighters flew in the same direction as he reached, soon descending to an altitude where their thrust propelled seawater into the sky, cutting a path towards the open waters of Sugamya Ocean.

I like it. I like the references, I like the writing, and I find it kind of funny that it opens in a nautical setting, just like the one I’m working on does.

Wubdich wrote:

Time - 12/09/2020
Location - Wubdich 'Lost Island Plain' -- Underwater City of Marxstadt --- Abyss Tower

[0 fathoms below the sea]

On days like these, the sea stays calm and quiet. Above and below its surface. The salty breezes and gentle waves dance around the Abyss Tower. The gateway to the first city on the bottom of the sea. Only the humming of the ventilation generators of the Tower interrupt the silence. That, and the occasional seagull lost on the High Seas. However, on a day like these, ships would be around the Tower at all times. But none ship in sight, across the entire horizon, today.

By order of the Council of the People has all traffic to and away from the tower been halted, the city of Marxstadt put under lock-down, and all citizens of the city told to stay in their homes. Not that long ago, a conspiracy has been discovered brewing up in the underwater city, the prestige work of the nation. Extremists no better than terrorists took their chance to hide in the deep blue to brew up their crimes against the People, the State, and Peace.

Under the command of General Secretary Lena Sovetskaya of the Navy, General Secretary Dimitri Morozov of the Soldiers, and General Secretary Sasha Feierabend of the national intelligence, a special force has been prepared to descend into the deep to clean the city of the traitors of the nation, dubbed the 'Northern Red Hydra'. The 'Red Mammoth' special corps of the Army has been sent from the Ground Forces under the personal command of Morozov, while Sovetskaya prepared her own new branch designed for the underwater cities of Wubdich specifically. Feierabend knows of all the details surrounding what has been going on the shadows of the dark abyss.

***

With her freezing aura accompanying her, Lena enters the bridge of the WMS Atlas, the flagship of the Grand Fleet 'Sonne'. Sailors and officers alike straighten themselves, saluting the Lady of the North, as she has been nicknamed among the Navy. With a short wave, she dismisses the saluting seamen. Her aura causes some of the men to shudder regardless of her actions. Around a large table with the current plans and grand blueprints of the city gather her second in command, Admiral Kumagai - Admiral of the Grand Fleet, Vice Admiral and Special Forces Commander Hamasaki, and Feierabend's Right Hand Treuburg - Overseer of the Special Operation committee. Treuburg, who also holds the responsibility of leading the Ground Forces' Special Forces, speaks up right away.

"Madame Comradine Sovetskaya, the transport ships are docking on the tower as we speak. And the men are overeager for the operation to begin. May we?"

Lena looks around the room, looking at the signs she knows to look for to find out about the status of her own 'concept'. Then her eyes meet Treuburg's. Though he has been trained to not react in any way that may show weakness, Lena's icy eyes still visibly unnerve him. "They may go already." she concludes, "They will meet them down there."

Hamasaki mumbles something into his non-existent beard, before openly saying: "Madame Comradine... T-The men aren't ready for such a rapid descend." Lena's eyes roll over to him, before glaring over to Kumagai.

Clearing his throat, Kumagai looks over to Hamasaki, acting angered by the words of the Vice-Admiral. "Hamasaki. The men have been trained for exactly this. Even if they have to go down the full 165 fathoms to reach the bottom. They are used greater pressure." Inhaling to respond with a 'But' next, Hamasaki feels Lena's piercing glare laying upon him once more. He gulps.

"Yes... Of course, comrade Kumagai... Pardon my doubts." Hamasaki adds with a bow as a sign of apology.

"As soon as the Abyss Ferry submerges," Lena speaks, "we will unleash 'Leviathan' without the tanks. Once they touch the bottom, the Anglerfisch Submersible-transporters shall bring their tanks down, to test the time they take here. I haven't forgotten about the warning about different conditions compared to Korumi. Anyway. Have wolves reported of anything leaving the city?"

"Fenrir F001 had..." Hamasaki says, already regretting what he will say next, "...but... it was just while howling echoing off the Rhodos (non-Arembia name) / Kho' dosos (Arembia name) complex."

"Irrelevant." Lena spits out, which weighs down on Hamasaki, burying him in a little more regret. "Tell J001 that they shall observe the seafloor with both eyes open. If anything just vaguely human gets spotted, 'Abgrund' should be ready to jump out." Hamasaki nods, after bowing a second time.

And thus, everything is set up for the operation to begin...

Rather short, rather lacking effort comparably... But felt like doing something out of peer pressure now.
The actual Chapter 2 will be as great as the first part of this was.

Another nautical one! Are you guys trying to make it seem like I’m copying you instead of the other way around? Joking. It is good, despite its relative shortness. I approve.

As it is, you guys will have to wait for tomorrow for mine. This is getting a lot longer than I expected, so be prepared for a massive amount of material tomorrow. I honestly might end up splitting it into two parts, just to avoid breaking the RMB.

Wrong answer. If it’s gonna act like that, then you don’t just give up. You ignore that factbook until you get told how to fix it, then take the file (which you said you have stored elsewhere), put it into two parts, then post it as two separate things. When you write something larger than most Wikipedia pages, don’t give up when a website that isn’t build to support that doesn’t correctly support it. Adapt and overcome.

Sorry if that sounded harsh, but giving up is not an option I’ll allow you to go with.

The problem is, Kathol, I can't cut that file up, I never designed it to be cut up. The file's formatting is absolutely not accepting of such a design change. I'm locked in with what I've got.

On the contrary. Do the first half up to “Ascension to Politics.” Have that as one factbook/dispatch. Then, repeat the header, and put “Ascension to Politics” and after under it as the next factbook/dispatch.

Is it ideal? No. Will it make people need to read two dispatches instead of one? Yes. Will it avoid breaking the factbook? Probably. It’s the best solution for you to be able to edit and expand it until the problem with the original gets figured out though.

You are not stuck! Only that factbook, that specific factbook where you wanted to add one or two things into, is halted.
Don't block yourself off from everything now, putting yourself in a position like Mesto does it to himself. That factbook is massive and puts a lot of your existing stuff into its shadow, yeah. But that isn't a reason to stop everything else now.
We know Cetiri in other ways through you already, and you'd always be there to just answer a question about her that isn't in the factbook yet. And if it's just grammatical and choice of words edits, c'mon man. Not even native English speakers spot the most obvious mistakes a lot of times.

Just do what we tell Mesto all the time. Put that aside, and focus on something else in the meantime.

Well, considering the site isn't used to having 6100 words in a single file...

Frankly I'm just gonna go lay down again and figure out what the hell to do. There's no way in hell I'm cutting up that file, the way it's designed and formatted is how I want it to be, and the fact of the matter is, I can't concentrate on anything if I have 50 files all because NS can't take larger file sizes properly. If I have to swim through 80 different dispatches to find what I need, that's going to ruin any productivity I have.

You have other things to do as well.
The RPs. Those you have started and need a continuation, and those that are only 'planned'. Heck, do Arembia stuff to distract yourself. Ask Sama about putting you on the map or giving you an orientation on history, or give him the concept of the subterranean city! Anything! Halting absolutely all and everything now is not the way. Neither is starring holes in the wall.
So take your nerves and braincells and kick them into another direction. Myotoshi's next RP chapters, another government member, maybe even a completely unique municipality and what makes it entirely, or again Arembia and Sama.

ANYTHING, but shooting your own knees off right now.
