Nation Breakdown

On 23 May 2003, with just under 100,000 active nations, a scan was performed to determine how many of each type of nation there are in the game.

Spoiler warning: if you don't want to know every type of UN classification in NationStates, stop reading!

1. The Graph

Inoffensive Centrist Democracy is the most popular nation type, comprising just over 15% of all nations. It's closely followed by Democratic Socialists, with about 14%.

Interestingly, you have to get down to #6 on the list, Compulsory Consumerist State, before you find a nation type with more freedom on any scale than the middle-of-the-road Inoffensive Centrist Democracy -- and even then it's economic freedom at the expense of personal freedom. The first nation type to be clearly more liberty-loving than the default is Capitalist Paradise (#9).
