The Republic of Carpathia is a mammoth, efficient nation, notable for its burgeoning leopard population. The hard-working population of 8.875 billion Carpathians are free to succeed or fail in life on their own merits; the successful tend to enjoy an opulent (but moralistic) lifestyle, while the failures can be seen crowding out most jails.

The relatively small, moralistic, pro-business government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Welfare. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 13.6%.

The very strong Carpathian economy, worth 484 trillion kronor a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Door-to-door Insurance Sales industry, with major contributions from Beef-Based Agriculture, Woodchip Exports, and Book Publishing. Average income is 54,550 kronor, but there is a significant disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 166,641 per year while the poor average 13,841, a ratio of 12.0 to 1.

Crime is moderate, possibly because it is difficult to make it through a day without breaking one of the country's many regulations. Carpathia's national animal is the leopard, which can occasionally be seen sifting through garbage in the nation's cities.

Carpathia is ranked 169,405^th in the world and 140^th in Eurth for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring 42 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
