The compassionate, cynical, devout population of 1.566 billion Schadans are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The large, corrupt, moralistic, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Industry. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 62.2%.

The all-consuming Schadan economy, worth 126 trillion doubloons a year, is quite specialized and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with significant contributions from Information Technology, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Basket Weaving. Black market activity is frequent. State-owned companies are common. Schada's national animal is the mantis shrimp, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to heavy metals seepage into national waterways.
