to be fair we wont be getting married for a bit, it will be a long engagement. She is finishing her Bachelors in May and she said she doesn't want to wedding plan or anything like that until her degree is done. So it wont be till fall 2024 or so that we actually get married but i felt the time was right to give her a ring and commitment.

I'm very happy with her, ignore the fact I'm not photogenic at all. She is definitely prettier than I am lol.

Hello, how is everyone doing?

Not a whole lot, work, and writing for a Battlestar and Exalted (Romance of Three Kingdoms meets Avatar Last Airbender) RPs.

Yourself?

Me, Im trying to revive this nation of mine. I started this back in 6th grade, and I abandoned it after like a year. But I wanna restart it because I have nothing better to do and I’m having a creative boost.

Communist Volkstrad wrote:Hmm, well with the Bronze Age it's the vibe and the aesthetic. It's as far back as written history goes, further back than you can really fully comprehend. The Roman Republic is as far removed from the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza temporally as we we are from the Romans. It's pretty crazy. Tons of technology we take for granted, even basic things like money, did not yet exist. Civilization was in its infancy.

Their entire view of the world was really different from ours, because while they were able to figure quite a lot of things out, the world was still a mystery, unexplored and unknown. There is an impressive blend of fact and myth in their telling of events. It's overall just very cool.

This is partially why I also like a lot of Japanese history; the blend of myth and historic known quantity. Even as late as the 19th and early 20th century you still hear lots of stories of spirits and demons running around and interacting with people.

You have events which are known, historically, to be legit, like the Genpei War. Yet in that same telling of events, you have stories about vengeful ghosts rising up to seek revenge. You have the common folk stories about Taira no Masakado, a real dude, who rose up in revolt against the Imperial Court.... and then how after his death, his head was mounted above the gates of Kyoto, yet continued to rave and rage at all that passed, and how his ghost continued to cause havoc and discord for over a thousand years after his demise.

Minamoto no Yoshitsune, real guy, who joined with five of his brothers he had never even met to destroy the Taira, the dominant hegemonic power over the country at the time, after their father's death and failed revolt when they were young. They established the first shogunate, the Kamakura Shogunate.

But funny thing, they say he went into the mountains as a young lad to be trained in the art of war by the Tengu King. Crazy stuff like that all throughout. You don't see this kinda thing most places at that point in history.

You have then the Bakumatsu, the end of the last shogunate, and all kinds of political intrigue between various factions throughout the country. Assassination, plots, uprisings, all kinds of cool stuff. Throughout Japanese history, you have all kinds of larger-than-life heroes that would fit right into Warhammer, but they were real.

It seems like you're really fascinated by things in between actual reality and larger than life fiction, which makes sense, especially since there's basically near zero contemporary sources to figure out what stuff meant (although I'm sure some people have explained these incidents well enough). I'm guessing you're into historical mysteries then? Or things like the Epic of Gilgamesh?

While only being someone who had an embassy with you guys, fully agree. It was fun to check in every once in a while but the inevitable lurch of time marches on and people get busy with things. At the very least, I hope y'all can convert some of this into something lasting like via social media, group chats, Discord servers, etc just to stay in touch better.

You would be correct, I have read the Epic of Gilgamesh like four times

Badassistanian wrote:I wish this never had died off

Late response but yeah. I'm still around here daily although sometimes I forget to check and miss things

It's just permanently ingrained in my schedule to open up NS when I turn on my PC

Might like the Vaisharralyndaele RP I plan on rebooting. It’s basically a quasi Bronze Age-Iron Age setting with sword and sorcery vibes (like Conan the Barbarian).
