The Republic of Bromeliads is a very large, genial nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service, state-planned economy, and devotion to social welfare. The democratic, devout population of 298 million Bromeliadsians are prohibited from doing almost everything except voting, which they do timidly and conservatively.

The medium-sized, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Spirituality, Welfare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 44.8%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but underdeveloped Bromeliadsian economy, worth 12.0 trillion Leaveses a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is broadly diversified, is led by the Book Publishing industry, with major contributions from Tourism, Uranium Mining, and Arms Manufacturing. Average income is 40,265 Leaveses, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Bromeliads's national animal is the Bee.

Bromeliads is ranked 98,783^rd in the world and 1^st in Freelandia for Highest Poor Incomes, with 31,451.41 Standard Monetary Units.
