The Kingdom of Kalix is a gargantuan, cultured nation, notable for its ban on automobiles, hatred of cheese, and punitive income tax rates. The compassionate, democratic, humorless population of 37.194 billion Kalixians are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The enormous, socially-minded, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Education, Environment, and Social Policy. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Göteborg. The income tax rate is 100%.

The enormous but underdeveloped Kalixian economy, worth a remarkable 4,882 trillion kronors a year, is highly specialized and mostly made up of the Book Publishing industry. State-owned companies are common. Average income is an impressive 131,266 kronors, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Kalixian husbands are dead good at fathering kids, brave curators do battle with disorganised government libraries, the recital of citations that follows any political speech can be longer than the speech itself, and hordes of tourists are ruining the environment. Crime is totally unknown. Kalix's national animal is the wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Kalix is ranked 2,136th in the world and 6th in The Maritimes for Highest Economic Output, with 4,882 trillion Standard Monetary Units.
