The Queendom of Rute is a gargantuan, efficient nation, notable for its compulsory gun ownership, suspicion of poets, and stringent health and safety legislation. The hard-nosed, humorless, devout population of 10.23 billion Ruteans are prohibited from doing almost everything except voting, which they do timidly and conservatively.

The medium-sized, corrupt, moralistic government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Education. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 57.6%.

The frighteningly efficient Rutean economy, worth a remarkable 1,483 trillion pounds a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, broadly diversified black market in Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, Woodchip Exports, and Uranium Mining. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an impressive 144,990 pounds, but there is a significant disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 434,971 per year while the poor average 37,750, a ratio of 11.5 to 1.

Calling dibs is an unalienable right, the government spends more on chasing distant comets than on basic infrastructure, reporters who negatively comment on politicians' haircuts are cut from the news, and most believe it doesn't hurt to embrace free trade. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Rute's national animal is the emu, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Rute is ranked 45,866th in the world and 2,639th in Balder for Most Beautiful Environments, with 708.3 pounds of wildlife per square mile.
