The High Kingdom of Verdux is a massive, efficient nation, ruled by High King Aurelian Allen Verdux with an iron fist, and renowned for its daily referendums, enslaved workforce, and ubiquitous missile silos. The hard-nosed, cynical population of 1.013 billion Verduxians are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The medium-sized, corrupt, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Defense, and Industry. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Patenolen. The average income tax rate is 59.9%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Verduxian economy, worth 124 trillion Verds a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized black market in Arms Manufacturing, Basket Weaving, Information Technology, and Uranium Mining. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an impressive 122,608 Verds, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Liberals and conservatives try to disqualify each other's candidates on the grounds that "their ideas would never work in the real world", army rations are served on silver platters, programmes of questionable content are shown at peak-hours, and the traditional Violetist dish of stuffed sheep's head is served with an intense look of shock upon its face. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Verdux's national animal is the Seagull, which is also the nation's favorite main course.
