September 26th, 12:19 P.M.
People were gathered around a table and talking while eating lunch. One was telling a story, "...and then it swooped down and took the fish off the hook just as I was reeling it in." Dietrich took a sip of his water while listening to the man speak. "Must you always talk about fishing, Dankert?" Dankert rolled his eyes and took a bite of his sandwich. "Am I boring you, cousin?" Dietrich shook his head, "No, no, it's just you talk about fishing a lot." Danker sighed and returned to eating his sandwich. "There's just...not a lot to talk about." A sympathetic look appeared on Dietrich's face, he didn't speak for quite a bit. Other conversations continue around the table, Rolf talking to Dietrich's wife, Madlen, about his grandchildren's school. "Dankert, love, there is that country that collapsed," said Helmine. "Rather not talk about it, barely any information and it doesn't seem pleasant." Dietrich then chimed in "Any interesting movies?" "Some film father suggested to me, it's about a ship crew that gets lost in a storm and take over the ship to escape it," Dankert answers. Conversation between the two cousins resumed, lasting the rest of the meal.

PRESENT DAY...

Ken looks around the remains of his home as the memories of that fateful 1998 night flood back, most of the house now either crumbling to bits or covered in punk graffiti. A "NEVER AGAIN" here, a "HELL WAS BORN HERE" there, and of course, a few pentagrams on the floor, likely from Reverbian teens trying to communicate with the dead. Wait... "The dead..." Ken mutters, giving a worrisome glance upstairs to what remains of his son's room. He steps carefully up the rickety staircase and turns to look inside the first room to the right. Tom's old room. It's empty—not even a bed or bookshelf remaining in its confines. There's only a single letter in the center, likely left behind by one of numerous trespassers. It contains a poem, seemingly cut out from some sort of newspaper: "Plug me into the death machine, ten in a pen pressed against me. They cut out our tongues so that we can't scream. There's blood on me. Antibiotics keep us alive now that everyone we love has died. Wrapped up in cellophane and tossed into the flames. There's blood on me." -THE LAST WRITTEN WORDS OF DAISY AND ALANS' SON, TOM. FOUND IN CELL #67 OF THE INFECTED ZONE. NEVER AGAIN.

Daisy... and Tom. Last written words..? It can't be true. It can't be true...

Meanwhile in Nikolaias...

Michelle awakens on rough, uneven ground. Looking upward, Michelle can see stars through the tree branches above her. She's... outside? Sitting up, dark vegetation seems to be all that surrounds her. She could've sworn she had fallen asleep in the Nikolaiasan Palace in the midst of St. Alexis... How in the world could she have ended up in such a forested area? Michelle recalls her early childhood years spent in Girl Scouts, her coordinators always praising her leadership skills. She also remembers the nights spent camping overnight—when she'd wake up in a mild panic, momentarily wondering why she was in a tent outside rather than the safety of her home. But in the end, she'd always remember the "Courageous Camper" badge that she was working towards, and she'd remember where she was and why. This time, however, there's no tent, no badges, and no moment of recollection. Michelle's limbs are difficult to maneuver, but she manages to rise to a stand and move forward through her exhaustion and confusion. Michelle is grateful that a full moon is glowing overhead to help her traverse the area with some amount of light, but it's still dark as all hell. Through a few branches, Michelle sees a clearing ahead.

"The pain wasn't nearly as bad as you'd think it would be..."

Michelle hears the distorted voice but only moves faster, not wanting to look into the pitch-dark forest behind her. She pushes through thorns and sharp branches as a strange static sound fills her ears...

"I knew I was dead the moment I looked up... The beginning of a curse..."

Michelle enters the clearing. From what's around her, she seems to be in some sort of backyard. In front of her is grass, a wooden two-story structure... And lights, just past the structure and into the distance. They aren't the lights of St. Alexis, though. They're the lights of... "Reverb?" Michelle mutters, shaking her head, "How..?—" Before she can ask herself the question, she's interrupted by a rustling sound from the forest behind her. She turns. Through the dark, Michelle sees two glowing dots... eyes... perched upon a branch a few meters high. That static sound returns. Frozen, Michelle watches intently as whatever is in front of her speaks again. It's garbled at first, as though it were flipping through some radio stations, but it finally settles on a familiar tune. "🎶...You're here... You're watching me...🎶" It's slow, distorted, and lacking instrumentals. Michelle has never heard the song before, yet something within her somehow knows it. Late 80s. She'd learned the song on guitar with her father—one of the first songs she learned to play at all. Preteen nostalgia... Except Michelle has never played guitar. These memories of this song aren't hers. The thing continues, "🎶...You're here, you're haunting me... The eyes of the night...🎶"

As the haunting tune concludes, replaced again by radio static, there's another voice from behind her. Distantly, from the wooden two-story structure, a young male voice calls out, "Sedona!" Michelle turns toward the shouting voice... And the thing grabs her.

GASP!

In a cold sweat, Michelle awakens from one of the strangest and vivid nightmares she'd had in a while. Harrison steps back, retracting his hand from Michelle's shoulder as his other arm cradles baby Nadia asleep. "Sorry! Bad dream?" Michelle sits up, pinching the ridge of her nose, "Yeah, yeah. Just..." Michelle thinks of trying to explain her dream, but decides to shrug it off. She looks out of the Nikolaiasan Palace's guest room window, past the St. Alexis skyline, and to the distant sunrise. "Why are we up so early, anyway?" Michelle speaks through a yawn, Harrison replying, "Siv called. He wants us and Ben on the case to find Alans. Siv says he's got a lead."

(Did you just say... 6...7...? ALSO THAT WAS ABSOLUTE CINEMA BRO)

Meanwhile, with the royals...

Benjamin was trying to maintain his balance among the rubble of it all. He could barely stand after what just happened. This was supposed to be a normal day. In fact, this was actually supposed to be a family day, mostly for Ivan and Karovsky to reconnect with one another. But the sight of dust and varying amounts of debris made Benjamin question it all. "I shouldn't have become Tsar," he muttered with a trembling, shaky voice, seemingly on the verge of tears, "My whole existence causes my family and my people to be at constant danger, at any minute, any hour. I've failed as a ruler-" Before he could continue with his somber speech, Anna patted his shoulder, a smile coming across her face. "Don't be silly, Benji," Anna chuckled, "If our father was here today, he'd be extremely proud of the man that has grown over the years. Plus, you've helped protect Nikolaias and Lexxon, countless times, actually. The last time I remember contributing something to 'save the world' was when Comet Lhari hit. Whatever. The point is, never doubt yourself, big bro. Don't be sad about your failures - be glad of them. And try to improve for the better." With a thankful smile, Benjamin elbowed her, responding with, "No wonder why you're Irene and Luke's favourite aunt." "I'm their only direct aunt, really," she said in a tone that could be described as friendly and sarcastic at the same time. After their little conversation, Benjamin and Anna started looking around the area that they were currently in. Survivors coughing among the various areas that dust prevailed, firetrucks finally arriving to resolve the crackling fire, and various police cars circling around the scene. Benjamin turned to his left, where he saw something that he'd never expected to see.

Timothy was kneeling, facing towards Ivan, so was laying on the floor. "Is he okay, Tim!?" Benjamin frantically screamed, catching the attention of Anna, "Answer me now, Ivan! Enough of these pranks!" Before Benjamin could do anything, Timothy shook his head, and responded, "It's alright, I checked his pulse and it's still there. He just passed out due to the large exposure of dust and debris at the scene. I didn't even know he passed out in times like this, but now we know, I guess." Ambulance sirens were heard all over St. Alexis, and news stations had sent our their reporters to report on the scene. Benjamin knew the headline story was probably going to be a long the lines of, "IMPERIAL ROYAL FAMILY FOUND AT ROMANOV INN DISASTER", or, "TERRIFIED ROYALS TARGETED AT THE SCENE OF INN ACCIDENT", but Benjamin didn't necessarily care about it at the moment. Maybe it was better for the public to find out about the scrumptious tea, after this whole ordeal was finished. "Tim, Anna," Benjamin directed, "Grab Ivan and take him home. Find shelter with Karovsky and the kids." "What about you!?" screamed Timothy, "We're not going to leave you here, alone!" "Relax, Tim," Benjamin said in a chill tone, "I wasn't trained to defend myself for nothing. Father always made me take martial arts classes, y'know? Plus, these people need help, and with my strength, I could, y'know... help them?" Timothy looked at Anna with a disbelieving look in his eyes, but they later faced Benjamin and nodded. Tim and Anna held Ivan on their backs, and started jogging away to the Imperial Palace. Benjamin, on the other hand, started looking for survivors.

It looks like the paramedics and the stretcher-bearers haven't found any survivors yet, thought Benjamin. Seeing this opportunity, he noticed a group of women, coughing in the distance. In an instance, he held the survivors on his bare back and began running towards the nearest ambulance. "Woah," Benjamin could hear one of the survivors say, "Is that the Tsar? He's mighty handsome... and strong, too..." "Elise!" whispered another, "He's already married! And has two kids! And he could hear us!" "Oh, right, sorry." Benjamin spotted an ambulance, not far from where he was standing, and raced towards the machine. One of the paramedics noticed him, and asked, "Wait... are you...?" "No time to explain!" he shouted, "Get these women on stretchers as fast as you can! Don't hesitate, and that's an order directly from His Imperial Majesty himself!" The paramedic quickly nodded and did an awkward salute, which made Benjamin chuckle for a bit. He directed a group of stretcher-bearers and paramedics to areas where other survivors were at. They all varied in everything, from old to young, male to female, ethnicity to ethnicity. Ken Alans targeted everybody, Benjamin thought with a disgusted face, "No matter their age, identity, ideology... he just targeted ANYONE that was either Nikolaiasan or Lexxonian, huh? As he was directing the group to another batch of survivors, he saw the woman that had helped the royals build a harness to save the remaining survivors. She was not severely injured, but she did suffer minor cuts and bruises from the ordeal. Benjamin, and anyone, really, knew that Ivan had taken a liking to this one woman. Without hesitation, Benjamin spoke to her, "Hey, so, uhm... I know my brother can be awkward sometimes. He's never really had a relationship before. But, I can tell you, he's a great guy. Loyal and smart. Y'know, I didn't catch your name. What was it?" "My name?" the woman responded, rubbing her head, "Well it's-"

Her response was interrupted by the abrupt alarm that came from Benjamin's phone. He took the device from his pocket, and looked at the screen to see his caller. It was Anna Karovsky. "What could she possibly want in a situation like this?" Benjamin muttered to himself, but he answered the call anyways, "Hello? Karovsky? Are you there?" "Oh, my Benji!" said an elderly voice on the other side of the line, "You're alive and well! God bless!" "Thank you, Karovsky," said Benjamin in a gentle tone, "But what do you want to talk about? Are Ivan, Anna and Timothy doing alright?" "They're doing quite fine, yes," Karovsky replied, "Timothy is fanning Ivan right now." "What about the children?" Benjamin questioned. Karovsky responded, "They're doing quite excellent! Actually, I think they became acquainted with one another. They started sharing their food, toys, you name it! Right now, Anna is reading a book to them." Benjamin sighed out of relief and said, "That's great, Karovsky, thank you so much! I might have to give you another title other than 'Grand Duchess Anna Karovsky' after this!" "I'm fine with just Grand Duchess, though I do thank you for your offer, Benji," Karovsky answered, "But we have more serious problems to discuss. Tim just got a phone call from Siv Thorne from the International Space Agency, correct? According to Tim, he's got a lead on that Ken Alans guy, and he wants you and the Lexxonian leaders to solve the case around the Alans guy. Immediately."
